Depending one what sushi place she went to. Those 20 sushi plates could cost between $10 to $25 per plate especially the sushi places with that conveyor belt bringing sushi around.

Pretty sure I'd be more surprised by what is considered "normal" in this context. I consistently _overestimate_ what people eat, even here. And as far as I'm aware the average is even lower over in Japan. Meanwhile I'm regularly turning what the packaging labels "4-6 servings" into a single meal. And if I have some 2-3 hours between meals I can eat another one, even if I'm not actively hungry. If anything I'm still a bit underweight though.

In Japan, portion sizes are small and its people doesn't eat until they are bloated, asians can generally aim to eat until they aren't hungry, rather than feeling full. Fullness is only half the fight, the other half is mental satiety. The satisfaction in the mind. When you go to cake shops though you'll see girls gorging down slices after slices of cake though.

eating 20 plates of sushi may sound like a lot but you only get between 1-3 pieces of sushi per plate at those places. Maybe I am just a fat westerner but it is not that much is it? It is called "running sushi" where I live, not one time has it been good, it is like mediocre food, seems like the whole selling point is that it is being delivered to you by conveyer belt. It is a novelty that wears off pretty quick tbh. I prefer those ad libitum restaurants where it is all made to order. So much better quality.
