My parents thought my name was unique combining Desiree and Jazmine; however, growing up and google searching some meaning for my name I repeatedly come across Al-Jazari’s name and story. Glad I can finally see a video. I wonder what the meaning of his name means? 🤔

Its speculated that he have been born in Jazirat ibn Umar (Called Cizre now), where he got the name Jazari from or Al-Jazira which was used to denote Upper Mesopotamia

It's not his real name, it's the name by which people called him because of his birthplace. It was common at the time to call people by the names of their fathers or eldest children(thus Abu al-Izz ibn Ismael), as well as by their place of birth, the tribe they originated from, etc. Ik I'm really late but I hope that helps :)

The clock would be “reset” twice a day, at sunrise and sunset. At all the people mentioning Da Vinci: Why does one need to be more brilliant than the other? Is this a banal football match about whose team is better than the other? Da Vinci was more of a polymath, but he was working on the shoulders of giants. And one of those giants is probably al-Jazari. Al-Jazari also built on others before him from different cultures like Persian, Greek, Chinese and/or Indian. There is only human culture, and different human cultures build on and influence each other. We should embrace each other!

He was born in our Kurdish town of Cizîr / Cizre (Jazeer) where his surname comes from. Most Jazari, jazeeri surnames are Kurdish in Islamic history and indicating the people of Kurdistan region.

The “1001 Inventions : The Endurance Legacy of Muslim Civilization “ by National Geographic ...Chapter Home : Subchapter Clock....this Elephant Clock moving parts were automated using Indian-inspired water- powered timer. Combine with Egyptian phoenix + Greek hydraulic tech + Chinese dragon + Indian elephant + mechanical figures in Arabian dress......the clock reflects the culture from across the world from Spain to China
