Animation of the 5 March 2021 tsunami triplet

Күн бұрынOn 5 March 2021, at 2.27 AM local time (4 March 2021, 13:27:34 UTC), a Mw 7.3 earthquake woke up the North Island of New Zealand with strong and long shaking. This was the first tsunami of a triplet occurring on the same day. Propagation of the three tsunamis of 4 March, 2021 (UTC) simulated using a composite model for the first rupture, prepared with the GCMT solution (www.globalcmt....) and empirical laws (Strasser et al., 2010), and the non-uniform models provided by the USGS for the two other ones (earthquake.usg... and earthquake.usg....

The Manukau Harbour tide was especially low that day!

Those 3 tsunami certainly gave the waters in the Tasman Sea a good stirring, along with several other bodies of water . It would have been a good day to be up Cape Rianga, watching the action - if it was sufficiently disturbed . The beach , certainly wouldn't be the place to be , and I suspect at least a couple of meters up on 'dryer land ' .

I remember that earthquake, was in Blenheim. Went for maybe a minute, the shaking was not big but you could feel it get stronger then weaker then stronger again, it did this a few times. Was a rolling motion
