I used to believe that Ghost Stories was a flop in Japan as well, but it actually did quite well They were actually worried that it wouldn't do well in the west, since it's mainly influenced of famous japanese ghost stories So the cast were allowed to put in some western pop culture references, as long as the story stayed the same And that's how the famous official abridged series we all know & love was born, huzzah!

There was also a dub that flopped in the US too. The dub we all know was likely made because the license was included as part of a larger deal.

Inumaki's french dub directly translates to "It's over. Don't move" and the speed in which he said it was bizarre in my opinion as a native speaker. Like they could have just written "Ne bouge plus" in the script and taken out the "C'est terminé" and had the voice actor talk a tad slower and it would still match the animation and might have sounded a bit nicer. Not telling the translators how to do their job, just giving my personal opinion. I speak English and French so I tend to pick up these things when watching in both languages.

Also a little out of character for him right? He’s not supposed to say anything unnecessary, anything other than “don’t move” could have dangerous consequences in that scenario right

Exactly what I thought! "C'est terminé" was so unnecessary. Maybe they thought it made him cooler but it was soo out of character. And it's it doesn't make sense in a fight.

Honestly, I know very little French, but I'd imagine just saying "Arrete" would work, wouldn't it?

@@aaronsirkman8375 well technically "arrêté" does mean stop. But I think with Inumaki's ability he needs to be very specific or else something bad could happen (I'm imagining if he just says stop that could cause someone's heart to stop or something else to happen, you get me?) So "Ne bouge plus"(Don't Move) would work better. Or maybe I'm being nitpicky lol.

Bryce does such a good pissed off voice, it sounds so feral and animalistic. I generally prefer Japanese VA for Eren for normal scenes but when it comes to anger Dub takes it imo.

feral and animalistic. This is exactly why he's a perfect voice actor for Inosuke. It sits with me better. The beginning of the AoT scene sounds kinda off imho but overall it turned out great.

As a French speakers I'm confused where they added the extra words in the Jujutsu kaisen one of cursed speech. Japanese and English "don't move". French "it's over don't move (anymore)"

Glad these guys are back I missed their energy. When they all went omlette du fromage, I was like yes dexter's laboratory fans rise up. I thought putting ghost stories in this was a bit loaded but I enjoyed the comparison.

@@RedDenim @Elijah H Kurt and Adrien were apart of two previous channels, Get in the robot and Beyond the bot. Christian was a frequent guest on beyond the bot where they reviewed the fits of different anime characters. Beyond the bot concluded earlier this year so the fact that this channel exists is great cause I missed these guys and their collaborative content.

yes man, I remember when S1 of SAO first got dubbed, Bryce blew up in EVERY show getting casted as the protagonist in every dub. He's super talented, but I can't stand hearing his voice anymore.

I'm fine with either dub or sub. What I can't do is switch between the two. If I start an anime in dub I can't then watch it subbed and vise versa. It just seems weird to me when I try to watch it in one after establishing it in the other.

Sadly I've had to do that with a few, most recent was Tokyo Revengers because Hitler fukin sucked and ruined things even now but honesty I kinda prefer the sub no shade to the dub but the amount of censorship and scene cutting was pissing me off and their is no English uncensored version only the Japanese original

I honestly have no idea why they turned Joseph into an American for part 3 still. Either way, haven't laughed like this in a while. Great video! If you do a part 2 you should do One-Punch Man. It's one of my favourite dubs.

Love the video. As someone who’s dyslexic, and not able to to keep up with subs, when I do watch anima it’s the dub. Like the second aot clip. I couldn’t have even known what was happening there.

Honestly, localization has been on point the last decade. The original sub vs dub argument seems like a moot point now; it really seems like it all comes down to the voice coaching like how y’all were watching. I will say even though I used to be “subs only”, when I started watching anime with my kid, we watched English dubbed with subtitles
