Kite is my favorite character, there's no reason to mention that, he's just cool as fuck. He sticks to what he believes even after seeing the worst of the worst.

This is actually why I prefer the 1999 version of the anime. It wasn't totally faithful to the manga but had the proper pacing and also introduced fillers that actually provided more character development especially to Kon (early chapter and Gon's return to Whale Island), and also the other Hunter candidates when they get stranded on an Island with a Ship serving as a hotel. Also Leorio's flashback while trapped by a plant during the Hunter's race shows his motivation in getting more money. The 2011 anime basically rushed everything until around the end of Greed Island.

That's why the best way to watch the anime is starting with the 1999 version and move on to the 2011 version the moment greed island finishes

another thing I have in the 2011 anime is how they disrespected Leorio. he's the one who oppened the doors at Killua'S house. he even oppened the second set of doors

I really enjoyed kites role in HxH. Everything about his character was awesome to his ‘Lucky Slots’ to his group of members he is allies with. I really like the part where he scolded Gon for making him kill the mother bear because Gon did not stay out of its territory. His philosophy came from Ging, Gon’s father which is so hard to fathom why Kite is a seemingly favorable character, but Ging is such an a-hole.

in the 2011 anime there is also a moment with how they met ... it just appeared not in episode 1, but in memories as flashback

Also they removed the ship part of the hunter exam That was one of my favourite part abt the hunter exam you could get to know most charackters personality

i was a big fan of Kite since his first introduction in the 2011 anime so i was really glad that i looked up more information about him and learned how much this man meant to Gon growing up. Kite was pretty much the catalyst that pushed Gon to go out and actually explore the world

Anime also left out how Gon has hunter qualities even from childhood as Gon befriended the attacking bear's cub and raised him until he left for the hunter exam. The way the manga transitions that story into Kite's introduction was left out which is a ashame. Still love the anime too though.

As a big fan of the newer anime. I started reading the mange and was surprised Kite was in the first chapter. But it makes more sense and definitely going to make the chimera ant arc hit harder

I grew up with the 1999 anime so when i watched the rage moment everything seemed perferct, but what happened is that i linked that scene in my head and i taught that 2011 also had that scene. The brain keeps filling the blanks subconsciously.

I for me, even with flashbacks, some things are just implied and you can figure it out on your own without needing to see it.

This makes so much more sense. It also changes Gon a lot. Here I was thinking he was kind of like a latchkey kid.

Madhouse omitting Kite’s importance from the beginning of HxH, is just a Condition x Condition for an otherwise masterful anime adaptation.

I watched the 1st episode or 2 of the old anime and dropped it for no particular reason, then came back years later to new adaptation. The moment I saw Kite in the first chimera ant episode I had the most vivid eureka moment I’ve ever had and I realized exactly who Kite was. That moment where I connected the dots was incredible, and in the short few episodes I saw Kite he became my favorite character in HxH, partially thanks to my broken watch order of HxH

Everyone should watch the video - "Morality of Gon Freecs" by Aleczandxr you people will not regret it, whoever thinks Gon overreacted, or is a boring Mc or etc. just watch the video you will realise how masterfully crafted HxH is. It's complicated so many fails to realise how beautiful it is

They did not removed it in the 2011 adaptation. They’ve put it in a flashback in the chimera ant arc. I only watched the 2011 and was aware of this past they shared. Kite was hella pissed for having to kill the bear because of Gons lack of awareness, and Gon immediately senses a lot of kindness in Kite for that.

I know its not at the start but i was pretty sure this was still explained in the 2011 anime. Its been a while since i saw it but i definitely remember being given that understanding of why Gon feels so strongly about Kite.

Yeah the 2011 anime is hella sick, but they actually left out a ton of stuff from the manga. They also cut out the part where Hanzo gives Gon a pass to come visit his village and scene where they build up Gyro as a new villain and that Gon and the crew would have to confront him someday.

Literally had to add one or two minutes of flashbacks to the episode to portray that. I'm re-watching the show and am around episode 85 and every flashback scene made it feel as though Kite meeting Gon when he was younger was a five minute chance encounter.

I didn’t know this till after I watched, but I could still feel it. With his dad out of the picture uncle kite was the closest thing he had. Also possibly the only clue he had at that time too. Kite was going to be part of Gon’s future, and I think they both felt that way.

Oh, so it's the Fullmetal Alchemist scenario. People watch the first version and then years later "Remake" it and continued with what was in the manga that way they can skip most of the stuff that was already done in the pervious version and go straight to the next chapter.

This backstory is explained when he meets kite so anime watchers weren't left out, even tho it didn't go into as much detail, kite and Gons first meeting was explained 👍

Wow... This makes everything make so much more sense. Especially the interaction between gon and killua about Kite when pitou was healing komugi... Even though they did mention a bit of this, it makes a lot more sense having it all actually play out. Its a pretty vital part of gons character...

Kite is literally the reason Gon even started his search for his dad. They really did screw it up by cutting that out. The 90s anime might have a bit more filler but I like the character moments better. It's the superior version.

It was in the original anime. The one done in early 2000. It was a part of his aunt test.. His aunt did not want him to leave the island. Gave him a test that she thought was impossible That's why he was fishing for that big fish at the beginning. He meet Kite. KIte save him from a bear. He tells Gon he's looking for his master. Ging Freecss then Gon say that's my dad. then they talk about him. Shows him Ging Freecss hunter license. Kite gives Gon his dad's hunter license. And then leave the Island. They took out a few more things. They took out parts of the Hunter exam.

It makes more sense that Gon would want to be a hunter in the manga and the 1999 adaptation than the 2011 because Kite was a hunter and the closest thing to a dad Gon had

They turned it into a flashback. I never saw the 2011 anime or read the manga and I'm positive they at least referenced it.

There was a commentary channel that discussed how Gon’s failure to save Kite mirrors how the bear’s father attacked him in the woods. Gon wanted to be a hunter, but he also vowed to protect and not be helpless like he was in the woods. When he failed and Kite was killed, it triggered him because it felt like he had not made any progress in his quest for power.

there wasn't an episode with this in the anime, but there was a scene where they talked about this moment

personally speaking i think 2011 has its moments and cool stuff than 99. also knowing about kite now instead of later in the series. tbh didn't put much difference as to why gon was so mad about losing kite in the start and then goes berserk by the end was simply because he saw kite as a his mentor. kite achieved something that gon was trying to achieve. gon wanted to find ging on his own and kite already did it. also kite kinda sacrificed himself while letting gon and killua run away. so that's why as well. surely it might be better to introduce him in the start. but personally it was kind of a surprise when he got introduced the first time in series. and then they had stuff to talk about.

As the Manga reader, I kinda disappointed with how they introduced Kite in the 2011 version. They barely recognized each other, while in the Manga, they recognized each other right away and recalled the past together.

This is why I tell people gon the only one who understood the mission

This just reminded me of a scene that was in the 1999 animes' second episode that isn't in the 2011 anime... Kurpika's just casually eating when what looked like a freaking tarantula or something starts crawling over to him....someone notices it and tries to warn him causing him to glance over, see it, his eyes _IMMEDIATELY_ turn scarlet, and he freaking slams his fork into it and throws it into a pole at which point it sits there for a split second before running away as if it were dazed. I have crippling arachnophobia so seeing this scene was really painful for me...at first. Until he just freaking stabs the damn thing and pins it to the pole lmao. I felt so freaking vindicated by that. Also, while I was trying to find that clip, I somehow briefly ended up in a reddit rabbit hole where someone linked a video of drunk Kurapika teaching Leorio English....which was simultaneously hilarious and also very painful to listen to....which is completely off topic but I thought it was weird/funny so I figured I'd mention it lol.

this was probably the biggest fumble of the 2011 anime. Kite’s story needed to be more flushed out so there would be a pay off for Gon’s sacrifice in the chimera ant arc

That scene from his childhood was in a flashback, they didn’t remove the scene they just changed when they showed it.

For me this was the main point why Gon's freaking out and his rage scene got me all emotional. His bond with Kite was so deep... One if not the best anime rage scenes ever imo but it needs the backstory and understanding of how deep their bond was (and Gon's personality) to have the full impact. Kite was his surrogate father, his mentor/teacher he saved his at their first encounter and ultimately even sacrificed himself to save Gon (and Killua).And Gon couldn't so anything about it... it broke him.

I swear in 2011 version It shows kite saving gon. Maybe not in the first episode, but when gon find kite, he remember him saving him from the bear and punching him bc he forced kite to kill the bear

That's a giant difference... Gon's motivation in the anime looks a bit like Tanjiro with Rengoku but this two hadn't met beforehand

I had no idea this happened on the new version, because I skipped everything on it and went straight into the chimera ants (because I already saw the rest on the first version), so to me it actually made sense.

I mean, most of the people who watch the 2011 iteration also have watched the 1999 and read the manga, only the green one who dive head first are scratching their head. Also, in the 2011, it is enough interaction for Gon to be revengeful, if you scratch your head thinking why, then you must not understand Gon's character and in the 2011 iteration, they did well introduce Gon's character.

It also helps explain why Gon is liked by animals because of this encounter.

Kite told gon that ging is alive and is a hunter. became friends. Gave gings license on ep1. Thats why they have a deep bond. Gon did not forget who is kite. In anime, gon forgot who kite is on their 1st meeting in Chimera Arc. But in Manga, they both knew right away.

I'm pretty sure they explained all this. Didn't even need a double take but Kite's importance was attributed to the bear fox incident, his closeness with Ging, his kindness towards Gon, a young child strong enough to venture into dangerous woods without anyone to give him an earful for doing stupid shit like entering fox bear territory. It's deep bc he's the first father figure Gon gets, even though Ging is alive. If y'all needed a whole arc to get all that instead of inferring then idk man.

I will always personally advocate for watching the 1999 adaptation until Greed Island, and then just hopping to the 2011 adaptation from then on. It adds SO MUCH to the experience.
