Crazy enough that two decades or more living on earth change a man like Nolan to stop his old self for thousands of years of living as a Viltrumite.

The Viltrumite ideology, seen (politically) as fascistic nurturing, made Nolan strong or with will yes. But also lacked any emotional connections to Viltrum or anything outside some fake Patriotism or in his case Planetism (?), anywhom. The point is on earth he even says he gets to experience freedom and lots of other things (like sex for love/pleasure and not just reproductive purposes) so that freedom outside of his usual for 20 smth years made enough of an impact to find holes in his beliefs

@@rimaq_ Sympathy is also a lack of thing Viltrumites, which sympathy is also an emotional connection and sorts. Quite curious to see whether or not the others will get to understand that “feeling” if they go to earth or somewhere else similar.

@@mr_BENDS3019 *Spoiler if you haven't read the comics* some do eventually get it, tho most like the allegory or closest ideology in WW2 just follow orders and fight against Earth defenses.

@@mr_BENDS3019 I say yes, specially since the series is taking it's time with the story. Tho you'll notice the changes the show made (most for the better) quite easily.

"Isn't it a good thing if your child was very smart and gifted?" Yes and no. Firstly, gifted children (and adults) are often isolated and lonely, and they have a much higher rate of depression than other children. Gifted children also weirldy have more learning disabilities than the average (the term is twice exceptional), which means they might look average but actually be relying on their giftedness to hold them above water. This is incredibly stressful for the children and parents. And it takes much more work to intellectually stimulate gifted or twice exceptional children. Also it is near impossible to have a meaningful relationship with anyone more than a standard deviation away from your iq (standard deviation of iq is 15 points), meaning if you're three deviations above, you can only make true friends with around 5% of the population... which may exclude some or all of your family. Now, I think the dad is overreacting. He just wants his kid to be "normal" (which is a made up word). He's also clearly not able to understand Eve on a fundamental level, and that makes him revert to anger. And giftedness *is* a gift. Don't get me wrong, it just also comes with many challenges that most people don't think about.

I know the adoptive mom is nice(er), but the fact is that she’s complicit in her husband’s treatment of who she believes to be her biological daughter. Her occasional little snide remarks to him, or quiet moments with Eve do not make up for that, not even close. It’s a literal miracle that Eve didn’t grow up accepting her parents’ dynamic as normal and feed into it and perpetuate that cycle.

6:52 Eve's father is so old school he doesn't understand autism and thinks they're just weird. Her getting powers while his insecurity of probably his own spectrum issues which he refuses to learn or just old time "we all need to be the same mindset" crap happens. This is not an excuse for Eve's father just an understanding of it. Remember just because you understand where someone is coming from doesn't equate excusing why they are how they are.

Yeah, he doesn't want to entertain the idea that Eve is "special" and "gifted". And that happens irl, people think that children with special needs are weird or is a disability or lacking in mental/intelligence department, and would rather shun the thought. Some compensate by saying their child is just too intelligent like her mom do (which some children with autism actually are, mostly excels and focused on one or two fields, like Eve is all about chemistry), but still doesn't address that their child is indeed on the spectrum.

Eves parents are literally the worst. The only thing I can think of that would make the parents upset is that if Eve has powers. In a world of super powers being weird can mean powers, they could be afraid of her being in such a world of violence...however im giving them to much credit as they dont explain it in that way at all.

Yeah, people were massively overstating how important it was to watch this special before season 2. The order doesn't really matter _that_ much.

The dad suffers from an inferiority complex. He wants to be the best in the house in everything he can control. So when he sees Samantha do science stuff he doesn't understand, he feels like his superiority is slipping. He's be abusive mentally and physically if he was smart enough, but he's a deadbeat dad on top of being like this.
