My piano cover of "unravel" - the opening song of Tokyo Ghoul (2014). It was created while I was enrolled in a music conservatory in Germany and I was practicing many advanced classical pieces at that time. This might explain the extreme difficulty level of this piano arrangement, compared to my other arrangements. It is basically full with very risky jumps and super fast runs. Especially the particular "guitar riff" arpeggio at 02:21 is probably the fastest arpeggio I have ever attempted.
This piece is the most difficult piece I have ever arranged and I have put this song in my "top 10 most difficult arrangements" playlist on my channel as well:

I spend around 5 days to fully arrange this song but in order to fully play it, I needed to practice it very intensively for more than a week. This piece requires a high level of left hand and right hand coordination. There are many complicated rhythms in this piece and the only way to properly memorize them all is by repeatedly practicing it again and again in half speed.
Especially the intro melody in 00:35 is often called the "wall", because of the sheet difficulty of that passage. There are huge jumps with both of your hands at the same time and you have to rely on your muscle memory in order to play it. It is indeed difficult to completely master this piece and I am seriously wondering myself, how I even managed to play this entire song in only one continuous take back then.
In hindsight, if I would arrange this song again, I would use my gained experience from the past five years to make it less frustrating to play, but without losing its musical quality. And I would definitely avoid using those cursed double hand jumps in 00:35.
Perhaps one day, I will make another crazy-level arrangement like this unravel again. But only time can tell whenever I am in the mood for it.

I'd like to put some perspective on this for those who don't play. I have been a pianist since I was seven and have played for far over a decade now. I've had countless lessons and put in countless hours into playing and I have no idea how this person has played this. To hit every note so perfectly with that speed is nothing short of sheer brilliance. This is true mastery and dedication and it is profoundly beautiful.

I feel like you get even more impressed when you’re also a pianist, the more i play and improve the more i’m impressed by this. After my first time watching this i’ve said to myself « damn i need to play some of his music ». Now i am able to play some of theses like the merry go round of life one but this one feels even more like unreachable level than 4 years ago it’s crazy

It’s amazing, I’m not a pianist but I can tell that there’s no cover that comes out like this performance. There are so many subtleties that don’t get picked up in covers of this piece it’s amazing.

No matter how many times I watch this, I keep getting blown away by everything in this arrangement. The technical complexity is one thing, but for me, the main selling point is the sheer musicality of this performance. Even in the most brutal passages, you can clearly hear the melody, and the accompaniment isn't just about throwing the weight of his hands around, it has accents and dynamics, which only make it more awesome. Hell, even outside of the realm of anime piano, this is one of the most inspiring arrangements I've ever had the pleasure of discovering in my entire life. This is truly something special, and I'm sure you're proud of it, even as you say you'd like to re-arrange it to make it "less frustrating" to play without losing its musical quality (and you SHOULD be proud). The original opening song had already set the bar high enough, and then this arrangement came around and kicked it up a notch. This is the best of both worlds, a near-perfect blend of nuance and dexterity, and by all means, a modern masterpiece. One of those few instances where I consider that the cover surpassed the original.

I’ve been playing the piano as self taught for almost 3 years now and it started because I was blown away by this performance. Coming back to this video is a reminder that I have such a long way to go, but even more so it’s a reminder as to why I started in the first place. To any other people out there struggling to start playing, just begin and study theory. Literally just keep playing until the day comes that you can feel the music in soul. It’s soooo worth it

Me too 2 years it was soooo fkn hard in the beginning because of coordination, i couldnt move every finger and my hands indepenedent. Voicing Octaves and Arpeggios were catastrophic. Now after 2 years i think i got the basics to start playing. My hamds dont get stiff anymore. Its relaxed even if it gets faster and i can coordinate them perfectly. Maybe a few more years and ill be able to at least play a slower version of this

from everyone who wants to learn it, it's actually possible although it's difficult, in my opinion, the best way to learn it is with sheet music ( it will be a lot easier) there's a tutorial from this KZfaqr called Jane and it's helping me a lot , the best advice (it made me learn A LOT faster) is to practice it slow and calm and then increasing the speed, Good luck you can do it!

dude at least the main part from 1:04 - 1:59 looks playable for humans. like here you dont need over 10 years experience. UPDATE: i learned it after 2 weeks half an hour a day. confirmed playable. but im still not fast enough for full speed i play about 75% speed.

Nole_ the thing is, the right hand may be, but the left hand is skipping to notes with no patterns in an up and down motion, which is VERY hard. I printed off the sheet music yesterday, and I can play the first part perfectly, but the part in around 1:36- later is giving me trouble. After a week or so I should be able to play the whole thing.
