I’ve been sewing for over 40 years, and I’m still learning things about sewing because I’ve always sewed out of necessity, and am almost completely self taught. Nowadays I’m trying to learn the actual “right “ terms, and methods for sewing.

Anita, you are an amazing teacher. The best I've ever seen. You spoke clear and explained every detail. The camera work was great. Most videos are hard to see what the teacher is doing but your cameraman did it perfectly. What a great team. Please do more. Anyone can become a sewer watching you. I can't thank you enough.

Thank you so much, Anita! I am a beginner and bought this pattern to sew a robe for my 3year old granddaughter. I got to step 15/16 and could not figure it out for the life of me! I thought, what the heck, and googled how to sew this particular pattern. I didn’t really expect to get a specific tutorial for my pattern, but, there was your beautiful face looking at me!! You are amazing! I finished up the robe in no time and am now working on a matching robe to give to my daughter for Christmas. I love your story and truly admire you for your Grace in such a dark time. God bless you and yours!

THANK YOU for Explaining everything thoroughly! Patterns can be difficult to understand at times and most people who post sewing videos automatically "assume" the viewer knows alot about sewing so they don't take time to explain things like you do.I Love your step by step instructions! I can’t thank you enough for this video . I bought an older Simplicity robe pattern off eBay (8091) but it looks pretty much exactly the same as yours. Instructions are sparse to say the least. In the first half of this video you already solved my major problem (sewing the two fronts together - that was not clear to me) and defined what a carrier is (I had no idea - why not call it a belt loop?). MANY THANKS.

Something I started doing with patterns I use really often, is I take freezer paper and iron it to the back side of the pattern pieces. I do a rough cut on each piece and iron the paper to the back on the pattern and then cut to correct size. If I need several different sizes, I trace the pattern onto freezer paper before I cut them out. The good thing about that is that I can iron the freezer paper onto the fabric. It’s a little work in the beginning but it saves me time going forward.

When I commented a few days ago, I failed to mention that though (with your help)I finished my granddaughter’s robe, I certainly DO NOT recommend this particular pattern. The collar with the clipped corners was difficult to attach and took far too much time to maneuver to make look good using flannel. Patterns are expensive yet I feel I must slip this one into our give away box. Patricia

+Anita by Design thank you! i was afraid that among fabrics terry cloth is a tough one and it may have different stitches used for finishing for example. So i google it and it seems like i can use zigzag stitch, bias tape (or wrap it with fabric) and seems like i can fold it and sew on the edges to keep them inside of the fold. I personally thought about the last option, what would you suggest?
@AnitabyDesign
@AnitabyDesign 7 жыл бұрын
For the least amount of bulk, sew a straight stitch seam, press open, then serge each edge separately. Then you can topstitch each side of the seam with a zigzag stitch to keep the seam allowances flat. The seams disappear into the fabric, so you won't have to worry about seeing them. Hope this helps.

I found on internet that someone had a problem serging terry cloth. I personally don't have a serger, so these were reasons to look for different options. But thanks for an idea that seams dissapear in fabric. I guess it will be easier to find a solution now

Oh, okay! I haven't serged terry cloth, so I will have to give it a try and see how it turns out. Thanks for the heads up. Have fun sewing your robe.

OMG, I just bought this pattern and the fabric to sew, and I can’t believe I found your tutorial!!! Thank you so Very much for posting this!!!!I The problem that I am running into when I am sewing ( I am just learning) is that I don’t know how to adjust the sizing/fit to my body. In this pattern the waistline is where my hips are😒. What do I do? Thank you
@AnitabyDesign
@AnitabyDesign 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ira! You're very welcome. I'm so glad you found the tutorial. I wonder if you chose the proper size because that's odd, unless you have an extremely short torso. You could shorten the pattern to accommodate your body. There are no "shorten/lengthen" lines on this pattern so it's difficult to know where the make that adjustment without me knowing exactly where the problem is on your body.

Another quick question, so the seam allowance isn’t included in the pattern, so if you are sewing size S, you are cutting out pattern lines for size M?

Thank you for this tutorial! So helpful! I have a quick question for you: I am using 2 layers of fabric- flannel on the outside and faux shearling on the inside for my robe. Should I sew the pocket through both layers? Should I sew both layers together so it's easier to treat it as a single piece of fabric? Any suggestions are appreciated! Thank you!

Hello Anita, thank you for the great video. I looked for a tutorial like this to make a robe since I never made one before. Everything went fine until around minute 47 , then I kind of lost track. It looks like that you have your whole front peace together at that point, but mine was still in three pieces (two #1’s and the #5). I am sorry, this might be do to me still being relatively new to sewing and just missing something obvious. I am trying to figure out how to put the pieces together but haven’t been able to do it. I would greatly appreciate any help and advice from you☺️thank you so much!

Thank you Anita, you are great getting back to me so soon. As I was waiting for your response, I figured it out. Can you believe that I attached the front collar pieces together instead of the front pieces😂..! Oh well, live and learn! I guess that’s just part of being a little bit impatient beginner! Your instructions are great, I am almost done now. Thank you👍☺️

When it’s fleece fabric do I have to turn the fabric so right sides are facing before cutting? Also, if I’m using fleece plaid.
@AnitabyDesign
@AnitabyDesign 2 жыл бұрын
You can either place the right sides together or wrong sides together. If you're using plaid, you should cut on a single layer in order to match the plaid when cutting your pieces.

31:08 I know it’s not the directions, but wouldn’t it be easier to fold the piece in half inside out, sew the end, and side then turn it right side out? Obviously I have a little problem with following directions when it comes to sewing. That’s how I end up with either new creations, or mistakes.
