Thank you. A very interesting comparison and demonstration of potential pitfalls. I favour the fluke anchor myself, but I can see that it is probably the least effective in mud or sand alone. Kind regards.

Folks, as you can see, with proper scope let out, no anchor can compare to the genuine Bruce. Minimal fouling surfaces compared to all versions of stocked anchors, superior set and reset characteristics and, unlike the plow, a device originally designed to travel THROUGH the substrate (think about it) it has multiple prongs to catch on things rather than just one. The fisherman's anchor sets a bit faster and I do use one from time to time in special circumstances, but there's too much for the rode to catch on when swinging in wind, current or tide change. Bruce anchors rarely foul on rode because they burry readily. Also, unlike Danforth and other folding anchors, they almost never bend and cannot be 100% defeated like a folding anchor can when a small rock gets between the shank and the flukes. I am talking genuine Bruce here, not the weaker and far cheaper knock-offs.

Interessant :-) .

Sand sowieso. 👍

The question was yesterday about Delia's accident which collapsed the bridge in Boltimor - whether anchors on container ships can stop a ship. I'm trying to find out why ships don't drop anchors or do they not brake or its too long to do ?
@sailandmoremedia3 ай бұрын
Hi, I guess when they have no electric power on the containership the windlass will not working. And if they have power, it needs time. An Anchor can stop certainly a containership but it needs time.

Invalid testing/demonstration the anchor does not get pulled on by a horizontal force… well unless the boat is over the horizon from the anchoring point. Also the anchor only anchors the end of the chain, its the weight of the chain suspended between the ship and anchor that maintains the ships location.

Hook the chain to the bottom end and use a properly sized (strength) zip tie to keep the chain to the tip. If it snags, a strong pull breaks the zip tie and you can pull it out from the back. Look at some folding kayak anchor YT videos...

very interesting :-)

@@sailandmoremedia "Interesting" is being kind, the proper word is ludicrous. "A strong pull" is what anchors are exposed to when deployed. Using this suggestions on anything larger than a canoe on a lake is sheer stupidity.

@@acmeopinionfactory8018 It's an old trick that all the fishermen here in Borneo use, indeed they claim it's why the anchor has that eye at the end. By strong pull they mean engine power, and by zip ties they mean big, thick things, and 2 or 3 of them. But for sleeping? No.

I have a new invention the "SandWedJ" this being beneficial in sand & mud when used on grapnel type anchors, grapnel anchors generally used as the main anchor for many weekend fishermen and as a secondary anchor for most other applications.
