Good scene, but I like how it ended without it. You know he loved her, and she him, with them dancing for the last time on the balcony.

"In Siam, everything has its own time. And sometimes that time is never." Sad lines, but true. It's too bad we couldn't get this scene without the commentary.

This ending would have made the movie that much more heart breaking, but would have given closure to the audience, in my humble opinion.
@jennifermcqueen52454 жыл бұрын
This should have been the end of the movie. This would have let the person know that the King always loved her, though they never saw each other again.
@stevelleremy16854 жыл бұрын
That would convert the entery movie in a very sad thing (more than even it is). Good decision to keep it out.
@sajana56854 жыл бұрын
I think the last line of narration in the movie makes it quite clear saying "I was only a boy but the image of my father holding the woman he loved for the last time has remained with me throughout the years." That is exactly what we'll remember at the end, the last moment of their dance. The ending was beautiful that way with the movie ending and beginning with the prince's narration
@rossogden9920 Жыл бұрын
Nah. If you were paying attention to the movie, you would already know that they always loved each other. This is an ending for the low IQ crowd, who needs everything spelled out for them.

I liked this deleted scene, it never should have been deleted!!!! It was what actually made sense to all his Anna´s lifetime in Siam.

I thought the same. The icing on the cake was when he gave her the same ring that his late father tried to give her, Did the king in real life ever gave Anna a ring as a keep sake gift?

that deleted scene is soooo deeply touching... no music necessarty... really wish I could have heard some of the lines.... this could & still can be maybe ? inserted right after the prince watching them dance near the end of the movie & then flash back to their encounter and last dance together... this is one of my favorites for ever...

As best I can decipher; (Just the interrupted lines) Anna: Who would have thought I would be sharing tea with you, your majesty. (Can't get her next lines though) Chulilongkorn: It is unfortunate he never had the chance to make this tripAnna: In Siam everything has it's own time and sometimes that time is neverChulilonghorn: M'aam, the reason I came to see you, the day before my father died, he told me he wanted you to have this. We looked and finally came upon it.(Anna hesitates)Chulilonghorn: Please M'aam. He would be disappointed if you did not accept.Anna: I have always tried to impress upon my students, the importance (lost dialog)Chulilonghorn's last statement: It would give me great pleasure, Mem manna, if you would come to visit me in Siam, in celebration of all that is wonderful in my life.Anna: I should like that, Your Majesty, I should like that very much.

They did met in England in 1897. He was grateful of her as his teacher but was also concerned of the inaccuracies in her books. Her son, Louis, returned to Siam at 25 seeking to rebuild his life after accumulated debt while he was living in the U.S. He was welcomed by his old friend King Chulalongkorn and was granted a commission in the Royal Cavalry until he left to establised a teak trade. The company is still exist until today. He married Caroline Knox, daughter of Thomas Knox, then British consul-genersl in Siam. His father-in-law left Siam after another son-in-law was charged with embezzlement.

I actually prefer this ending over the original. The original ending makes you long for something more than just a final dance between Anna and King Mongkut. It didn't feel like a proper closure after everything they went through. Here Anna gets to see Chulalongkorn and learns about how she influenced him. It's such a sweet, tender moment between them. And I like Anna being given back the ring that King Mongkut wanted to give her as a gift. That way, she'll always have something to remember him by.

King Chulalongkorn did not visit Anna in London. She was passing thru on her way to Germany when she heard the king was staying at the Siamese embassy. She then asked for and was given an audience with the king. No gifts were exchanged and the meeting was strained. After King Mongkut's death, Anna had written to Chulalongkorn expressing her sympathy and offering to take up her former position as an english teacher. Chulalongkorn wrote back thanking her ...but did not invite her back . He was very well aware how troublesome her presence had been at the Siamese court from his father King Mongkut.
@michaelrandall93192 жыл бұрын
In 1897 they did indeed meet again. 30 years after she had left. They were in London as he was on a state visit. However, it was not a cordial meeting as the new king was not at all happy with Anna's account of his father King Mongkut while she was a tutor in Siam. In her writings she referred to King Mongkut as a ridiculous man. But if you read how it was written, you will understand it was her own frustration at not being to help him make a real change in Siam and his willingness to let things happen in their own time and in their own way. This is the fact. Not sure where you got your information. But really, it doesn't much matter as these versions of their story are made for movie purposes not true to life facts. So enjoy the story for how it is told here or don't, the majority love the fiction and the romance...as it should be.

@@michaelrandall9319 also since then it has come out that a lot of anecdotes from the story are just straight up lies. for example tuptims descendants have come forward saying that her fate was just straight up made up. other parts have happened, but ages before and she just made them contemporary.

He was an old, short not good looking man and she was a real governess, who dispised him because he turned young woman into incubators for his children, according to Annas real dairys...sorry to bust your bubble...😉

it's no wonder the scene is deleted, one, that's not chow yun fatt, and two, thais as far as i know isn't that dark. surely the thai king don't look like a manual laborer having worked for years in the hot sun in the street. what was the director thinking? Jeeeeez.

The whole movie is far from the true story. The real Anna was born in India, her grandfather had married an Indian woman, this is supposed because the British kept detailed marriage records and her grandfather's wife is not mentioned, only his marriage. She also went to a school for mixed race children. And she later divorced herself from her family completely, creating a false identity, was a failed teacher, having made attempts to start a couple of schools, married a working bloke, not of a notable family and while she did work for the King as a tutor and administratively, it was not grand, she was unhappy with the pay. She had four kids before her husband died, two of them died too. She was a hustler and spent her life embellishing and giving herself credit for progress made in the region. She spent her life trying to survive and created this false identity to live in a class above her own. I understand b/c the times were hard, but it is what it is.

This movie is and always be one of my favorites. But I totally disagree with the narrator on this clip. I thought Jodie Foster did a horrible job. Her British accent is terrible and she is stiff through the whole thing. But it doesn't stop me from watching it. I thought Chow Yun-Fat with his twinkling eyes makes up for Jodie. He balances out her stiffness.
