Sure, it was a stupid thing to do, but she's not looking for sympathy. She just seems happy to be alive. Teens are compulsive. Most of us are lucky to survive our childhoods. I wish her all the best.

Would you give sympathy to your daughter, sister, best friend, etc? I'm a human. I make human mistakes. And if you think I haven't learned, then maybe YOU have a lot to learn.

They did. They charged her two friends with trespassing, but did not press charges on her. Makes sense though as it would be pretty sick to charge her for anything I think she has already learned her lesson.

@Railroad921 I think the point isn't the fact that she did it to herself but rather that the notion that she "deserved" it is a horrible thing to say.

considering the vital arteries in the legs she is lucky to be alive and died from blood loss in mater of about 20 minutes or more.

I’ve done stupid stuff in my life, too, including running up a down escalator, falling and ripping my leg open, needing stitches. I was very impulsive in my younger years. She didn’t deserve it but obviously it is a lesson to others.

Similar thing happened to a girl in Montreal last week...you don't mess with trains...last one crossing when the train started to move..lost her both legs.

Dont feel bad Anna. There these 2 kids at my high school and the 1st one was a male who kid that "TRIED" to jump a train in Chicago and he got his right leg cut off clean from the knee down and the other one is a female who was born without legs.

@smartguy9765 We are the right ones. I read the article and she did that to herself, people think its fun jumping trains but in reality its a gate way to the coffin.

A stupid thing she did, yes. But you can't help but sympathize for her. I heard even the RailRoad (BNSF) representative brought her flowers to her hospital room.

Lessons learned from all of this.

@yarnovah She is one of the lucky ones, 90% of the time its the young who get killed by these trains, underestimating the power of a train. If she is smart enough she should share her story with Operation Lifesaver (A US Railroad Safety Organization) to show why trains are not to be joked around with.

@Railroad921 True. BTW: I wonder if it was a BNSF Powder River coal train that she was trying to jump since I heard talk of lots of coal trains in the video.

@RSClassicAngel She is not being given sympathy. She was giving awards and thanks to the people that saved her. She obviously caused this on her own. That much is totally obvious. You are talking as if its some intelligent discovery that no one else sees. Its very obvious.

@Railroad921 That she did it to herself is no doubt 100% true. Any fool can see that. Its obvious and inherent in the story. But to say she deserved it means that you are saying that the proper punishment for a train jumper would be to have their legs cut off. If someone were to jump on a train, not get injured, and get convicted of it, instead of paying back or being fined, the punishment would be to tie the person to the tracks so the next train cuts their legs off. You said it.

Train hopping is only as dangerous as you make it out to be some people are careful some are reckless it doesn't make you a dumb ass because you tried it.

And thats why you never hop on to a moving train!
