Lyrics
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe

@@s4mh528, yeah, she blew up really quickly. Maybe just didn't last that long. I mean, it's one song. I remember hearing her sing this live on the radio as a guest to some radio talk show. She nailed it just like the recording, so used to singing it a million times. I got a signed placard at a concert. She sat a table and signed them after the show. I figured, what the heck, maybe she'll get really big. That's how it was at the time.

Dear Anna, Thank your for making this song! When I was in the worst part of my life, you helped me Breathe. I am 36 yrs old now and at 21 years old your entire album helped find solace in a time of dispair. Hearing this song takes me back and allows me to appreciate my struggle. Thank you for being apart of the soundtrack to my life. This song is right up there with Do you sleep and Stay both by Lisa Loeb. You are an Icon. People Just can't see it but, I always have.

If anyone wants to sing along with lyrics here ya go: Two am, and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake Can you help me unravel my latest mistake? I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season Yeah, we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes Like they have any right at all to criticize Hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason 'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable And life's like an hourglass glued to the table No one can find the rewind button, girl So cradle your head in your hands And breathe, just breathe Oh, breathe, just breathe May he turn twenty-one on the base at Fort Bliss Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist Ain't been sober since maybe October of last year Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles Want to hold him, maybe I'll just sing about it 'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable And life's like an hourglass glued to the table No one can find the rewind button, boys So cradle your head in your hands And breathe, just breathe Oh, breathe, just breathe There's a light at each end of this tunnel, you shout 'Cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again If you only try turning around Two am, and I'm still awake, writing a song If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer Inside of me, threatening the life it belongs to And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd 'Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud And I know that you'll use them, however you want to But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable And life's like an hourglass glued to the table No one can find the rewind button now Yeah, sing it if you'll understand And breathe, just breathe Oh, breathe, just breathe Oh, breathe, just breathe Oh, breathe, just breathe

This is one of the most profound, Zen, anchoring songs it has been my privilege to enjoy in my 71 years. It still makes me cry in purifying sobs and throw my head back in laughter at the outrageous immutability of life. I am so grateful she wrote this song. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

@@mikeivosevich6130 I see no contradiction. Siddhartha Buddha was an intelligent, enlightened person. Although there is no contemporaneous evidence that a person named Jesus Christ existed, if he did, he may have been similarly enlightened. It's not a contradiction to find wisdom from two sources in two different countries.

I love how the music drops out at 2:56 and it's just the vocal. On the Spotify version the music actually gets heavier there, I like this video version better, feels more raw.

I listened to this song constantly during my time in the grippy sock hotel the summer before I turned 18. I’m 30 now, and though the memories of that rough patch in my life are still there, I see this song from a more positive perspective. Life and time will always move forward, so if you’re feeling overwhelmed by it all there’s nothing wrong with sitting down and just breathing and taking it all in.

Song saved my life. My dad had just died, my house was in foreclosure, and the day before I found my dog laying on the floor lifeless. I had been working with a customer to resolve an issue that was partly her fault and partly ours, and thought we had come to an amicable agreement. After she agreed to the resolution, she tore into my company, and then me personally for taking so long to come up with a resolution that she didn't like. Spoke to my senior rep, then my coach.... With all that had been going on, I was devastated. I almost walked out of the building (not because my coach blamed me for the bad call, just because I couldn't take it anymore), and probably would have wrapped my truck around a tree.... But one of my co-workers came up to me, but her earbuds in my ears, and made me listen to this song.

I listen to this to get my mind off of my boyfriend (since he’s not doing a good job on doing his part). Because the song is so soothing, it decreases the chance of my anxiety and stress levels from going up. Whenever I get really scared or nervous about something, my anxiety levels begin to build up, sometimes causing seizures or tears to come into my eyes. This is the song that soothes my mind and keeps me less stressed and more calm and relaxed.

I remember the song like it was yesterday! Why is my absolute favorite! I regret not owning it and having it on my iPod Shuffle. I remember when I was in Boston one year in 2005, and I came almost very close to seeing Anna Nalick and Howie Day perform in concert, because they were performing together that year. That is one year that I will never forget, and I regret not seeing Anna Nalick and Howie Day in concert. What a classic! Also, from hearing that song for the first time in 16 years, it literally almost choked me up.

Me too. I thought I had this on my playlist somewhere. I think its obvious & predictable how most ppl around this time, or wever ppl grew up listening to, in their times, certain songs will always stick to those certain ppl more. But It just sounds like a coming of age song to me. I dont get ppl how come back yrs later to certain songs talking about oh, now I get it. Honestly, where the hell have u been? Bc alotta sh is kind of basic & not even that complex. Maybe some analagies thrown in, w/ some play on words... at times, but some stuff couldn't be any more literal. Anywho, I remember when Tommy Lee (mc) said this was his jam. Ha, not that I'm some huge MC fan but I did not see that coming.
