I have my own business as a housekeeper, cook, and pet care specialist in NYC. Done it a little more than 8 years. Tried to work for a few of these people. They will try to suck you dry and drop you to the ground like a used tissue. Not everyone who is very rich is like this. People who have reached great wealth by degrading themselves will always throw you under the bus. Those who built themselves up often understand and appreciate someone who is honest and works hard and wants their home to shine.

While I'm retired due to demand I've been asked/involved with two land societies. and the juxtaposition is incredible. One group of hard working Engineers that saved their money (my age) are just wonderful to deal with. The other group who mainly didn't really work to make their money are insufferable.

This is basically how russian, especially russian women work. I met a lot of them while living in China and they all were very entitled and acted like the world moved around them. Most worked in prostitution related businesses but not because they were poor but to climb the social ladder. With prostitution money they would invest in designer clothing, proper bleached blonde hair and some beauty treatment as fillers. Workings as guests in clubs and karaoke rooms they would have access to richer men, their main goal was to find a very rich husband. But in order to obtain that they couldnt look like gold diggers, their external status (clothing, and overall looks) would have to convince men they were not "gold diggers". Just they are being played back because many of these men are already married but keep them as mistresses without them knowing. They still get some financial aid from this guys but not moving to another target and not demanding too much with the marriage promise. They actually think the world owes them, especially western people. I had a ukranian roommate who would always borrow money but when she received her scholarship stipend she would immediately go spend on another things and not paying me back. I would have to remind her all the time. The odd thing is that she had some savings from a part time job but she wouldn't touch that money. Like she would spend her scholarship money and then borrow for me, instead of going to her savings. That's a really good plan, to live on loans that don't even come with interest rate and if lucky i could forget.

I am glad you wrote this. Some rich people are very admirable and hold themselves to the utmost standards in how they treat people. Which is actually how some of them became rich to begin with. And some rich people are bad, just like every other category of people.

Damn, if only I knew this sooner. My mother is in NYC and needs someone just like you. She is very generous as well. Is there a way of finding you if the woman she has moves on? Your name is Italian. My grandmother was Sicilian. She would never hire anyone unless they were Italian since she believed they did the best work, having been a fully trained tailor in her teens in Sicily. My mother would love it, too.

@@Sarablueunicorn sorry you experienced this chaos. I have relatives like this. It's sad. They are usually competing with siblings to see who can have the bigger house or most cars or most travel. It's a family built on competition not love. I was always aware of this and I purposely would not work full time or I would self sabotage. I knew my relatives would try to steal my money by deception. It's a sick cycle.

If you watch the Netflix series, the last episodes show how the new persona was "born" in her teens when her peers were making fun of her. @@tamiefaw7970 Rachel Williams sold movie rights to her story to Lena Dunham for seventy thousand dollars. Then she wrote a book about Sorokin that brought in six hundred thousand. All said, she made back the money Sorokin stole from her ten times over. And the luxury hotels are still making money hand over fist. There’s no one who dealt with any lasting financial hardship because of Sorokin. When speculators and fraudsters destroyed the housing market in 2008, thousands lost their homes and no one went to jail. The OP is right. There’s a different set of rules for the rich and Sorokin’s only real crime was not having the starting capital to get to play by those rules.

@@elijahculper5522 No matter what “class” of people commit such a crime - it is still wrong! Anna is no heroic Robin Hood and most certainly should not be regarded as a role model or praised for her “efforts”. She deserves no pity whatsoever for being a liar and a fraud snd using her friends She knew full well her credit cards would not pay for the lavish Moroccan trip. She threw her friend under the bus. Any money Rachel made was well deserved for the heartache snd stress that Anna put on her. At the time of Anna scamming Rachel there was no thought of regaining any of her money in such a way. She simply turned a bad situation into an opportunity as anyone should have under same circumstances. I don’t believe there was an actual “Art” Center ever to be developed. With no equity snd large loans it would have been a miracle to survive and be a viable profitable business. Her lies of being an heiress show her true deceptive nature and bilking the hotels - one after another - is inexcusable. Her actions are completely reprehensible. And to try to justify or compare her actions by using the housing/banking bust or any other high profile Wall Street crime or white collar crime is morally wrong and corrupt. Wrong Is wrong. No matter who commits the crime. Bank kiting is a federal offence and the extent to which she did all this and using the money for obscene luxuries leaves no question in my mind that she would have used that 20.million - had she obtained it from the banks - recklessly and bankrupted any Art venture she supposedly was “envisioning”. The only vision Anna had was seeing Anna live a life she could not earn or maintain. A life she certainly didn’t deserve or anyone else who is a cheat and a fraud.

@@tamiefaw7970 you’re right. Anna was a thief. She didn’t deserve the lifestyle she was living. She’s not a role model. I just don’t have any sympathy for her victims. If nobody suffered as a result of an action, I don’t the the action should be illegal. And anyone she stole money from was so wealthy already that they never missed what she took. I think the vast majority of America’s ultra wealthy came into their money by exploiting others. Some exploit workers, others exploit customers, and others exploit the government. I don’t think any of these elites have come by their money legitimately. I don’t think any of them deserve that lifestyle while people starve. And I don’t think the government should concern itself with protecting the hoarded wealth of billionaires while actual violent crimes go unsolved because the victims are poor. I think in theft cases, the penalty should be based off of the financial hardship caused to victims. And in this case, there was none. I don’t want my kids growing up to be Anna Sorokin and I don’t want to live in a society where everyone acts like her. But I think that there are thousands of more dangerous individuals walking free. And I think that the taxpayer resources that were spent prosecuting and imprisoning Sorokin could have been better used going after people who actually hurt someone.

Yet, to become thus her environment growing up must of helped sadly, not being empathetic at a young age points to not being allowed to show emotion ie never properly learning neurotypical empathy in pivotal milestone years. ie if you start crying I'll give you something to cry about, so she found certainty in fashion and building a persona for herself . The most excitement is the mental chess game. As a child I collected dead birds because it felt safe, and they seemed peaceful to me, maybe because they didn't portray emotions I didn't understand, ie I saw no difference in alive or dead animals I just liked animals at 4 years old. Although as I got older ai was diagnosed with NPD and autism.

There are all sorts of ways to justify it. I've seen it before only on a very different socio-economic level. There's a certain amount of believing their own BS, like thinking what they're doing is too important to worry about the details like how it will be paid for. There's sometimes a fantasy that "everything will be alright in the end", especially if they're big drinkers. There's also thinking that $60K is just "chump change" for someone like their victim so it really doesn't matter, and another I've seen is the idea that their friendship is so valuable that the other person won't mind spending that much for the time they've spent together.

@@chilo8187 That is the truest truth today. Nowadays, every one and his brother is a 'narcissist' according to someone or other who learned it on KZfaq. Psychologists and Psychiatrists don't really use these labels as they are pragmatically pointless and the criteria are so nebulous and over-determined. I prefer that phrase. I learned it from a psychiatrist friend. Just in case: in means there are so many POSSIBLE combinations of POSSIBLE contributory factors that we can never establish the label in any meaningful way. We all have aspects of these 'disorders' in us but that is a far cry from having the full-blown personality disorder. There is no effective treatment anyway since these people are the least likely to see themselves as having any problem. It's those of us that get hit and run by them that need the therapists to help us heal.

She redistributed a lot of money to low income workers (the staff) and she scammed a bank and a few hotels. And she ended up paying most of it back so it is actually kinda funny. Compared to what other people with personality disorders do this is not that bad. Excellent analysis Todd, about 20 years ago I spent about 12 months in a fly on the wall role in the London fashion industry.... you are 150% spot on in your analysis of these people... all paying £35 $50US for a gin and tonic without even blinking despite most of them being unable to afford it. Last week I was in London for a series of meetings..we had dinner in a relatively recent, vast hotel in the old Midland Bank HQ, built at the pinnacle of the British Empire, it was vast, beautiful, acres of marble etc.. the bar bill for 4 of us £750 or $1100US... 3 bottles of wine and two whisky sodas. About 2000 others spending simular amounts. I live in the far rural North of England. £750 is the rent on a family home for a month and more than most families live off up here in a month after tax... There were several Members of Parliament in that hotel bar, and I recognised several 'celebs'.. this at a time when inflation is hammering normal people... It was all rather disgusting. The Hunger Games in flesh.

@@misstokyo1994 I agree that we need to take care not to diagnose from a distance. But it is perfectly ok to make observations about a person’s blatantly obvious personality traits that they show to the world. Pointing out that someone is behaving in a narcissistic way, or in an antisocial way is NOT diagnosing them. It’s simply pointing out an observable behavioural trait. It would be the same as commenting that someone is conscientious. It seems to me that people with narcissistic traits have flipped the script so that everyone’s too afraid to say that word these days. I conclude that the narcissistic people have controlled the narrative so that nobody can call them out.

Interesting topic, Dr. Grande. It always amazes me how some people can be so shallow, to the point of stupidity. How can they be so easily 'taken in' by these well dressed, and well rehearsed grifters? Great analysis, as always. The humor was right on point, too! Thanks. : )

I know someone in the horse world who is a lot like this. How she has avoided prison is beyond me. I believe her victims were so embarrassed they had been duped, they didn't pursue charges. She told everyone via FB she had 3 different types of cancer (breast, pancreatic and lymph). People reached out and held 2 fundraisers totaling about $30K. The following weekend, she showed up at a horse event driving a brand new purple Dodge Ram pickup pulling her horse trailer. She also had put up photos of her newly remodeled living room with all new leather furniture. You can believe in miracles because she was cured of all 3 cancers by holistic means without ever stepping foot in a hospital. A friend of mine sold a horse through this person as an agent. The horse sold for $7500 and my friend NEVER saw a dime of it.

Yeah I unfortunately know 😕 I see it everyday it sucks. I got a few narcissists in the family who solve problems through addiction and bulling, that's always a fun combination 👎 get that kind of behavior going on all day long, everyday. LOL I wonder if my relatively honest nature surprises them at all as much as their odd/srl1fish behavior surprises me? 💫🙏 Stay healthy and happy✨

I sat on a the jury of 7- week murder trial committed by two brothers who lived like this. They murdered the gay partner of the older brother in a life insurance scam to pay for the excesses of the bogus “trust fund baby” lie they had been living. I’m pleased to report that they are serving life, no possibility of parole, sentences, guilt on all counts: first degree pre-meditated murder, attempted kidnapping, murder for financial gain and commission of a murder by firearm.

I have heard people say she is brilliant. If Anna S. is so brilliant why didn't she know that banks have a process to loan large sums of money? Due diligence must be conducted, and you need collateral. Also, her idea of an exclusive club in a beautiful building in New York City? Hardly cutting edge. She's a liar and a thief.

Hey Dr. Grande would you consider doing a video on the Broken Arrow killings? It's one of the most disturbing cases I've ever seen and there's a lot of information/interrogation footage of the 2 boys who committed it. It could also be segued into discussing homeschooling/isolation and the effects they can have on children. (not saying that caused it only it would be an interesting topic). Love your channel man, it always gives me a lot to think about.

I actually know someone like this. She's always "borrowing" money and never paying it back. She's a known freeloader and has talked friends into letting her stay with them promising to help with rent, utilities, food, etc. But, she never follows through and loses her friends in the process. And, get this: when staying rent-free with these people, she has the gall to complain about them, their kids, and their pets! She definitely feels entitled to being able to live off people for free. It's terrible! Thankfully, she's burned all her bridges - including the ones with her own family. She has been "unofficially" diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, which does explain some of her behavior. Unfortunately, she refuses to get help and acts like she's perfectly fine. Her actions have made it nearly impossible to get a place to live (unable to provide references PLUS bad credit) and unable to keep friends. The last I heard, she's living with her daughter and, at least, providing free babysitting for her daughter - otherwise, she'd be homeless.

The sad truth is that most of us try to always appear wealthier than we really are. Especially on social media this is very visible. The problem with Anna is that she went overboard with her act. Luckily I myself realized already at a young age that this doesn’t bring authentic nor permanent happiness!

This is fascinating. I have known of people who have done a small time version of this by going into massive revolving debt… fancy clothes and handbags, lavish overtipping at upscale restaurants, like the suburban version of this. This has shed some interesting light on that behavior. I’m just speculating, of course. Not diagnosing anyone. Great vid, Dr. Grande. Thank you.
