Yup. When I counted six, I immediately thought, "Six Flags Over Texas." So I knew it was Austin. Of course, having lived in Texas for 46 years didn't hurt either. The irony there is that I've never been to Austin.

I did exactly the same thing.

I couldnt figure it out from the panels. Then i noticed what looked like the Texas state flag.

Looks like it's a reference to "Six flags over Texas" en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_flags_over_Texas but I've never heard of that before.

My daughter lives in Austin. The six panels, and the six flags, reference the six countries/nations that at one time or another have possessed the land where Texas is located. Texas has been claimed by or part of Spain, France, Mexico, itself (prior to being the Lone Star State it was the Lone Star Republic), the United States and the Confederate States. Each panel depicts the symbol of one of those.

Take a look at a map.

Texas fought for the confederacy in the American Civil War. That's one of the 6 flags. Pretty sure that qualifies it as part of "The South" pretty conclusively. If that's not enough though, then consider that of all the state capitals, Austin is the second southernmost at 30.267 N latitude, just barely beating Tallahassee at 30.438. The only capital further south is Honolulu at 20.307, the only one in the tropics.

Eastern Texas is absolutely considered part of the South.
