I've had first hand experience of bad fathers. Never met my biological dad and my adoptive father let me down too, so i feel his pain. He will grow and learn to be the man you want him to be (he has a great mum to help him on his way!), it just may take some time and he may go through a few awkward patches first while he processes what's happened. Bless you both.

I love your wolf videos. They are definitely my favorite animal. I was backpacking in Yellowstone many years ago and I decided to camp in a large meadow. After I set up camp I noticed a wolf in the distance. With my binoculars I could see that he was watching me. The next morning I noticed several wolves in the distance. They stayed away but kept moving, sort of circling me. I figured they were just observing me but they never got very close. I stayed a couple days just enjoying watching them until they finally left. When I got back out the trail had been closed due to a grizzly bear sighting. I still like to believe that the wolves were watching out for me. Keeping the bear away. 😊

My neighbour's son was a co-op student on assignment in northern Alberta, Canada. He went for a walk. Several wolves (like the ones you like to think were watching out for you)...tracked him, then attacked and killed him. That's what wolves do....they CIRCLE you.....before they move in to kill.

@@LRyan-li9wr when did this happen? More people have been killed by bears, mountain lions, snakes and other wild animals. Wolves are naturally afraid of humans and for good reason. When I'm in the wilderness I'm not afraid of wolves, but I am respectful. I have to be careful with my food not because of wolves but because of bears. If someone is going to go into the wilderness they should know the area they are going into, heed any warnings or go with someone who is experienced.

My Wife and I adopted an Alaskan Malamute some years ago. We took her to the Vet, and she was super friendly and loved the Vet and his assistances. My Vet got a little suspicious and ran a blood tests on her. The results came back, and Nikki was half Malamute and half Alaskan Grey Wolf. Nikki couldn't bark just howl, growl and snarl. She was very protective of the kids and if Nikki didn't know you it was not a good idea to approach the kids. She had many Wolf traits but at the same time she was calm, loving and didn't square up with you unless you were a stranger to her. We had a neighbor that hated Nikki because Nikki would growl at her when she walked by the fence and the kids were outside playing. There was just something about that lady Nikki didn't like, because she was the only one Nikki did that with. The lady had no idea about her genetic makeup, she just hated her because she growled at her. I found Nikki dead in the back yard one day after the woman had been by the fence about an hour earlier. I took Nikki to the Vet, and he found that she had been poisoned with hamburger containing drain cleaner. I filed a police report and this woman laughed about it with the cop standing there. The cop asked why was that funny and this woman said because I didn't think it would work that fast. The cop asked, YOU did this? and she said sure and if it hadn't worked the first time she would have done it again. She was arrested on the spot and booked on extreme animal cruelty, malicious mischief, and destruction of private property charges. She went to trial and the judge gave her a year in the county jail and fined her $10,000. I wanted her to get more time as the money would never replace Nikki but, you take what you can get, I suppose.

Thank you for this video. Wolves have been my favorite animal species since a child. To hear the howls of a pack is a rare treat indeed. I live close to Yellowstone National Park and the wolf conservation debate is very heated here. I have rescued two Czech Wolf dogs as well as well as German Shepherds. The Wolf dogs were my favorites. And yes, you better be educated to the breed before owning or adopting.

it is sketchy to keep any undomesticated animal, and i don't like that they're breeding wolves with dogs, which both defeats the purpose of wolf conservation, and makes fearless encounters and attacks on humans more likely

Don't do it. They are very high maintenance and NOT like having a dog. You cannot do dog things with them such as training, taking them to the dog park, keeping them in a house etc. Some people let them in the house but they tend to be destructive and most can't be housebroken. SOOO many wolves and wolfdogs end up without a home because they don't make good pets. So unless you do plenty of research, have a lot of money to spend, and are ready to be committed and willing to give them everything they need, do not get one.

My 2 Half Dogo Argentino / Half Belgian Malinois Females are Sketchy enough and far more Dog than the Average Excellent Dog Trainers could handle in reality. I couldn't even imagine a Wolf. LOL My little Beast Babies are actually some of the most intelligent incredible Dogs I've ever had and I've definitely had some Rockstar incredible Dogs through my life, a couple Rottweilers and a few Pits, the odd ball Sheltie once, who all were acceptional dogs, but this pair is next level. It's a breed my Homie is developing I guess since he's had multiple litters and they certainly are something special. I don't think I'll ever have anything else at this point. These Doginois are it. Just like the Wolf though, I wouldn't necessarily encourage most people and like I said even the exceptional Dog Trainer not to get a Dogo, Malinois or Doginois. It's a lot more Dog than you'd expect. I feel like sometimes I'm almost living with a pair of Lions. Dogos and Dogs like these dogs are actually literally used to hunt Pumas, Lions, Wild Boar and all kinds of big game so. There's that. And we all know what Malinois do so just imagine. There's a reasonable reason they're called man stoppers.

Thank you for this wonderful post. I had a 50% Timberwolf/Malamute which was my first wolf, dog. He lived for 11years. After he passed, I went looking for a Malamute. I met my husband this way. He had both Malamutes and Siberian Husky kennels but also had an Arctic white wolf, three red wolves and two Timberwolves. I bought the male as a Malamute and the female was Malamute and Red Wolf mix. My husband and I know how to raise these animals and we have loved every one of them. Once again, thank you for this post, it has brought back many memories.

Some of these tips are common sense even with dogs. Strangers patting on the head and getting up close for a hug and am always wary when kids are around one of my huskies. As he's gone for warning nips before when a young lad wouldn't leave him alone. This is why I'm convinced that a lesson in dog etiquette has to be implemented into the curriculum in primary schools. As for the food in pockets, there has been a number of coats where the insides of pockets where treats are or have been were surgically ripped open.

just saw short on instagram so i came watching 😁 what scares me more right now is abandoned dogs in forest paths, anyway, places where i'm alone. A young pitbull played with my leg, hopefully without really biting it, but since then i'm afraid of dogs anywhere and i have read about people being killed from several dogs while walking in nature, rarely happens but scares a lot, o talk about spain. Bears and wolfs, most savage animals usually will not encounter us if they hear us. Thanks for sharing as always 👍👍👍 and have a wonderful day 😁

I had a high percentage wolfdog. What I would tell people was to not make eye contact, ignor him and let him come up to you for a sniff. Also present your side and keep your hands to yourself. Also don't use baby talk with him like you would do with a dog. Once he was chill with the person I would advise them to sit down. Your right about the mouth thing once the other pleasantries are out of the way. It's a good sign when they want to lick your mouth and teeth. Oh also if you wear glasses take them off....they are very rough and tumble lol. Currently I have an American Dingo aka Carolina Dog.....she is very doggie inside but has the pushiness of a wolf dog. Tries to dominate by using her body. Outside she is has a very high prey drive and territorial attitude lol. She is a great being. :)

great info for people like me. I want to adopt a rescue when I am ready to co-parent a dog one day but it is SOOOOO useful to know that low-percentage wolf dogs are not as trainable as I would only want to adopt a breed or mix that was very trainable in order to keep myself and the the dog and my doggo dad co-parent safe and happy. nothing against the less trainable dogs.. Its just SOOO important to home doggos with compatible forever homes. especially since I know ppl nearby who rescue low content wolf-dogs and I had been considering a foster.. but now I am seeing that is not the right path for me. thanks so much for your work.

Dealing with wolves in the park just sounds basically like how you deal with energetic and/or anxious dogs, with slightly more danger. Most of this just seems like common sense, with the addition of a few oddities like not wearing animal products of any kind and to not have any health issues. Also, wolves are smaller than I thought. Then again, I consider German shepherds to be medium sized dogs.

One thing I learned was not to get them access to the inside of your wrists. They smell blood from your veins and start to nip. The most common injury from wolves or exotic cats is being knocked down. Getting in their way is like standing in front of a moving car. Someone I knew had a dog bigger than a wolf and when he turned around to look at something quickly he'd knock you over violently.

Many good rules and behaviors for people interacting with wolves. The same human behaviors are good when meeting an unknown dog, even if the dog belongs to your friend. We always tell parents their children can approach our dogs AFTER the parents have approached and interacted with our dogs. We also tell kids to offer their fist instead of open hand, because fingers are sausage shaped snacks.

Really love how informative this is. There are several times that "like you would with your dog." when advising against certain things. The funny thing is while I've never encountered a full blooded wolf I found much of your advice applies to meeting new canines of any kind. The greet by backside sniffing dogs often do instead of face, and social challenges are about the same. I really wish to know if wolves respond the same to "stand firm but show no interest" approach during aggressive greets. Again great video.

Everyone of these wolves are pretty. They are very smart. Look how they dive at her for kisses and attention. Hell, I would do it also.

Cheers Animal Watch. Wolves are great! It would be lovely to have them living wild in the UK again but I don't think we have the space with such a huge population living on a small island. They were once a native species in the UK.👍

Excelent work. How would you compare the problems of a male Akita inu with wolf dogs, or wolfs? Initialy, they look some similar.

Oh goodness, my collies, my shepherds and my Catahoula leopard dogs have always done similar stuff, I actually thought most dog owners knew this. I am sorry that I misunderstood this.

Not all Zoos are the same. A number of Zoos in USA are members of AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums). The rules of belonging to the association are intense and strictly enforced. All of the AZA zoos participate in SSP ( special survival plan) breeding program. They have to be on the SSP list and adhere to the rules for preserving genetic diversity. For example Mexican Grey Wolf was practically extinct until participating zoos became involved. Their enclosure mirrors their natural habitat. They have limited interaction with humans, and a number of wolves were released into the wild. Still, they are extremely endangered with maybe around 200 in the wild. All the Mexican Grey Wolves in the various zoos in USA have similar enclosures mirroring their wild habitat. So, to reiterate, not all Zoos are the same. They are crucial in preserving various animal species and they participate in conservation.

Plot twist: Here in the Netherlands, the wolf is back. This is a very dense population country. Which means the wolf almost has to be in contact with people. There is almost no room for him to ignore us people 😂 Of course ignorant people have been feeding them (experts said they believed some were fed). They also have attacked alot of farm animals. Which means they are coming close to farms and humans. The EU forbids to shoot them, they may not be scared away not even with paintball guns so they dont learn to shy away from people. Some have approached humans walking very close to them. One chased a person on his bike, one chased someone riding her horse. There have been incidences where a wolf was walking through the streets. So these are a mix of tame and wild animals, they dont know how to approach humans as tame wolfs in wold parks do, there are no staff members to correct behavior, some are definitly not scared of people. How to approach these kinds of wolfs? Especially with having little kids walking through the woods. What to do if they aproach the kids for example. Excuse my bad English, I am still work in progress..

A friend has a wolf dog but it's less than 25% wolf. Bit of a crazy creature. If it knows you well and you sit down it will plonk itself on you and you do not really get a choice. it loves being stroked/scratched between the forelegs. I have taken to wearing toetectors as it will try and steal footwear/socks while you are wearing them. Then it;s off like a rocket out the back door and hides the item somewhere in the 6 acres my friend has. Took my girlfriend over there years ago and one shoe was gone in seconds. It turned up in the woods about 2 years later.
