Game of Thrones has some pretty amazing fantasy Dire Wolves, so come and meet some real life ones! Anneka meets some spectacular high content Wolfdogs called The NorthAID Dog created by Mark Klemperer and finds out everything about keeping one of these sensitive, 100% wolf look alike breeds. Created over many generations, these multi generational wolfdogs are totally friendly to human and canine as long as early bottle raising and socialisation is in place. Not for the beginner or even intermediate dog keeper, these are expert dogs and need a huge, secure outdoor space to be happy in as well as human and canine company.

Yes! I underestimated what the 1 year old GSD/Husky mix I adopted would need as my Aussie/GSD needed what I thought was a lot but it was nothing in comparison. I have been taking him almost 2 years nearly (weather permitting) every day to a nearby dog park, that also was a big help with my depression.

I am a little confused... studies appear to show that early (pre-puberty) spray and neutering of larger dogs is associated with health issues, like increase in the risk for orthopedic problems. Perhaps you can do a video on this subject? Thanks for your videos. Keep up the great work!

And mental problems as well...when I was new to dogs we were given a Great Dane puppy by my vet, he was dumped at his secretarys house, had him neutered at 6 mo., he only grew to the size of a small female, he was scared to take him anywhere, I started him at about 6 weeks, but that didn't help. When we got him he was emaciated, ankles bulbous, ring worm...we got all of those things taken care of and he live to about 12 yrs old. I now know it is best, not to fix a large breed dog till about 1 1/2 yrs old, not an issue with small dogs.

If you can find a vet who will do it, you can also get their tubes tied or do a vasectomy like they do with humans and not mess with their hormones. The main problem is that folks won't believe they're infertile because the males still have their testes and the females still go into heat. To be clear, there are vets that do these procedures but they're rare.

@gullinvarg, Interrupting hormonal development is the reason these Wolf crosses are recommended to be fixed early. It reduces aggression and territorial behavior.

High content wolfdogs aren’t for most people. They’re better off with a German Shepherd or a Czech Wolfdog if they want that wolfy appearance with minimal care and dependable recall. The former are gorgeous animals for the right person. Be sure you have the time, space and dedication to look after them and do your homework first to determine if they’re a match for you, your lifestyle and your living situation.

I hope anyone who wants one of these beautiful animals is heavily vetted before being allowed to have one. There are so many stray dogs and shelter dogs now because of irresponsible humans. I dont think i would want to meet a pack of stray wolfdogs. I think they are fine for some professional jobs like guarding military instillations. But, i dont think average citizens are intelligent enough to have and maintain these guys properly. The animals deserve better.

I met a pair of brothers recently and they truly are huge. Very well behaved in a very crowded place with other dogs and people. My husky girl loved then as well.

I love dogs and I love wolves. But I feel like creating a dogish wolf like this makes for an animal that will never have a normal dog or wolf life. My GSD requires A LOT of work and time, which is unreasonable for most people. Something like these beautiful animals would outnumber the people who could truly house them correctly. I fear most of them will end up dangerous, due to the difficulty in training and socilising and will end up being put down :( Many APBT's, GSD's, Rotties and others fill pounds and never get out

Amazing these wolfdogs don't have a typical wolfdog temperament, but are gentle and affectionate with wolf-like appearance. Reminds me of the northern Inuit dog, along with the Tamaskan and Utonagan.

@@lailahepburnandmischka I agree wolfdogs are not ideal service dog candidates. However, Tamaskans, despite their wolf-like appearance, are known to make great therapy dogs due to their gentle temperament. Plus, they don't have wolf genetics in them.

My friend had one and he was such a trip. If someone came to the door, he’d either stand at the door and growl, and other times he’d jump in the tub and hide. The best is when they jump up on your kitchen counter. They are a LOT f work and you better know what the heck you’re doing and not just trying to look cool.

All these wolfdogs are indistinguishable from the wild wolves they captured near Yukon, Northwest Territories Northwest Canada MacKenzie wolves transplanted all over the lower 48 West exclusively. They can absolutely be as large as dire wolves, which are said to also be related to dogs. Maybe from sleddog gold rush days or further back.

That perfect combo is so rare bc you want to breed a more domestic temperament ergo dogs with smaller adrenal glands but at the same time want the look of a wolf who has a larger one. If you breed for temperament you loose the looks and if you breed for looks you don't have that family dog temperament a lot of ppl want.

That’s just your personal taste. I cover many breeds that people have. An American bulldog is hardly different to American Bully, Cane Corso, Bull Mastiff, English Mastiff, Staffordshire bull terrier. All breeds I have covered.

Let me help you out. The largest Wolf/Dog hybrid is a Canadian Greywolf mixed with a purebred German Shepherd. There was a breeder in Colorado in the 1990s who bred these Hybrids to Hunt Wild Boar. They were almost 175 lbs of pure predator. That was a Dire Wolf.

The Qimmiq is a close cousin, but fully domestic. The RCMP almost hunted them to extinction in the 1950s, but thankfully some still exist.

Buddy of mine up the street i went to high school with had a high content 3/4 type wolf. Straight up looked like a canadian timber wolf and acted very standoffish. Once i got to know him he was friendly but secretive. Its true that they remember things. Today theres no need for these where im at because we have plenty of wild wolves around.

I understand why they are taken from the mum at two weeks old, but nothing you say justifies it. If a wolf dog is still so wild that you have to take pups away from the mum, then they should not have been bred in to pets but left to be wild . The poor mother having her babies taken away must be horrific for her , my heart breaks for that poor mother😢 , just think of the stress she goes though and calling and looking for her babies. I will never support this . A wolf dog should be a dog that looks like a wolf, that can be raised like a dog , live like a dog but have wolf looks . If it is too wolf to do this then you have failed in your breeding, you are simply breeding wild wolves with a bit of dog temperament and to get that you are cruelly stealing the pups from the mother . Let the wolves remain wild and free where they belong and leave wolf dog breeding to those who know what they are doing

Hybrid wolves are the best. And dog's don't care about their puppies. My female's have nothing to do with them once they are over 3 weeks old! Same as cat's, cat's are back in heat when the kittens are 6 weeks old. People have no knowledge on animals these days

@@richardmadonia3384 Dogs care very much about their pups . you dont seem to understand their feelings at all. As a child my cruel mother would drown my dogs pups at two weeks. so the dog started to run away and have her pups under someones shed. my mum asked me , "why is she doing that? I told her" becasue she knows what you are doing, she is protecting them from you" like you, my mum thought dogs have no feelings . Just because you cant understand how much they feel does not mean they dont feel. I am a animal empath . i feel evrything thay feel. and i tell you i cry for them all in the hands of humans😥

I've been raising dogs since 1990. I just took away my 3 wk old shepherd puppies as the mother is finished with them. So who you think you're talking to! I raise endless animals. You could never have the experience....as me and what I see in animals.

I would love to have one, But I know I cant meet their needs. I have a small cottage size house. I live in the city with a normal lot size. No space to run like they need. Also I am a bit of a hermit. I have had a timber wolf mix as a teen so I have a better understanding than many people. thus I know it would be inappropriate for me to get one. If you just want one because of how they look you really need to think twice. Your lifestyle has to benefit them.

I had an actual wolf dog cross my neighbors had a german shepard mutt mix who lived in Michigan well they thought the neighbors dog got her pregnant anyway they moved to indiana before she had the puppies well she only had two puppies one of them a neighbor took and the other i took well lol it took alot of work and patience and time and space and money i had no idea what i waa getting into but to be fair we didnt know until the puppy went to the vet

id love a wolfdog but no way i could handle one. my most difficult dog is presa canario x gsd and shes a nightmare 🤣 tbf though shes 7 months old and my lab (who just turned 2) wasnt much easier to deal with at that age. my chihuahuas were easy to raise, it makes me mad that people hate chihuahuas purely because they seem to attract utter idiots who think cuz theyre small they shouldnt be trained and treated as the dkgs they still are despite their size. all my chis have been lovely cuz i trained them. kne is now reactive and people probably think 'oh another untrained chi' or 'typical monster chi' but he was actually a fully trained assistance dog with an amazing temperamemt but kept getting attacked so retire before he even turned 4 cuz the first few times i was able to retrained him to be ok with other dogs, but it got to the point he had too much trauma :(
