I never watched this show when it was on. But sadly it never caught on, it was well written, well acted and a breath of fresh air.

This was MTM best show after the MTM show. Not sure why it did not last. Loved her character here. And supporting cast

I think maybe they should have given this show more of a chance. The was the best show MTM did post 1977

I remember this show...came and went sooooo fast. It was scheduled on Tuesday nights opposite ABC's Head of the Class (which followed hugely rated Growing Pains) and NBC's Unsolved Mysteries. Poor Mary never had a chance! This show followed another new CBS sitcom "The Van Dyke Show", starring Dick Van Dyke. That show also died quickly.

I don't remember this show even existing, but I like the format. It's actually not bad, in fact far superior to her two variety shows and even better than the sitcom she did in 1985, which didn't last long either.

Great episode. TV needs more shows like this. (LOL Moment: "What have you got against these people?")

That theme song sounds very similar to the one on 'St. Elsewhere'!

THANK YOU very much for uploading this bodacious "blast from the past" for us to enjoy. To be honest, I had never even heard of this short lived series until recently reading about it in Dick Van Dyke's autobiography. He mentioned this program was aired on CBS back to back with his own short lived series, "Van Dyke & Company". I love this show's opening credits design & opening theme.

You're thinking of 2 different shows, the Mary Tyler Moore Show and the New Dick Van Dyke Show.
@Quartzquiz33311 ай бұрын
@akrenwinkle No, in 1988, these shows came on back-to-back on Wednesday nights starting at 8 pm. Got beat badly in the ratings by Unsolved Mysteries on NBC and the Growing Pains/Head of the Class combo on ABC.

@@Quartzquiz333 These things are easy to look up if you weren't around at the time. (I was.) For one thing, Van Dyke & Co. was on NBC, not CBS. For another thing, it was on a decade earlier than Annie Maguire.

Why did this show not last?
@Quartzquiz33311 ай бұрын
It was up against two hit shows: Unsolved Mysteries on NBC and Head of the Class on ABC. That didn't help at all.

@@Quartzquiz333 I liked the show when I watched it. I think it had promoted If they gave it time and more of a chance. I liked the character of Annie and the supporting cast as well as the writing.
@Quartzquiz33311 ай бұрын
@lorraineb.4698 What also didn't help was the Writer's Guild Strike of 1988. Production was suspended for five months, and the new season was delayed until October. Two months was not a lot of time to promote a show.

what kind of show was this drama or comedy.
@Quartzquiz33311 ай бұрын
Yes. It was a "dramedy", a half-hour combination of a sitcom and drama which was very trendy in the late 1980s. Hooperman, Doogie Howser, The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd and Frank's Place were similar shows from around this period.

Nothing she did after her long running MTM show was a success. I think her first two attempts after it ended were created out of haste and they occured too soon after the end of her sitcom. The first was a dreadful variety show in 1978 and a year later a weird sitcom within a variety show

Ouch, this is really bad. Kept waiting for some thing to happen. Mercifully it went off the air.

Mercifully for who? Certainly not you, because if you didn't like it, you didn't have to watch it. It being on the air didn't hurt anyone, but it being off the air did upset a lot of people then including me, who wishes that it would have lasted longer.
