@@joabjohn9787 It's true; they highlight it on the episode commentary. An ad-lib just means that it wasn't originally written in the script; it doesn't necessarily mean that it was only done for one singular take. It's probably a case of Joel throwing the line in during a rehearsal or earlier take and everyone liking it enough that it was kept in the scene through subsequent takes.

He wasn’t in love with her yet, he’s still pining over Britta in S1. The Jeff/Annie implications were there in S2 but I think real feelings didn’t start developing properly until S3, after he and Britta stopped sleeping with each other.
