What they do there is zoom in to the plectrum he is using which will have the city/country he is playing at - hence the response from the audience. An absolutely stunning song!

I remember Annie saying what she did,and i think i also recommended for her to watch the actual video,as i think the melody and pace of the song will come through even more for her with that version of the song,and she will perhaps even like it even more that way. I have noticed how a video can be impactful on her,and as we know with that video. It shows Metallica members on the road,not what i think was an war veteran in a wheelchair out on the streets,the overall humor and fan appreciation they show in that video. I remember Metallica being seemingly embarrased by this song way back when Jason still was in the band. It was like they felt uncomfortable being asked to play that song at one point etc. Much more mature and having theyr inner demons more sorted out,they finally seem comfortable and relaxed playing this. Even if they tend to speed it up live for some reason.... It was mainly James himself and Lars who seemed bothered with the song back in the day. I guess they were too focused on coming off as hard,macho etc as possible back then,and im sure the alcohol had a saying in it all. Being in that genre,probably had other bands throwing crap theyr way too for "going soft". Guys are so silly when they are young lol.

There’s a British band called “Thunder “ you both may like. Been around for 30ish years. On KZfaq you should search Thunder online. As you can imagine the search will through up a shed load other things. They are an awesome live band and the singer Danny has a spectacular voice. James hetfield did write this song for a former love, he never wanted it to be released or heard by anyone but his band heard and told him they had to do it, boy were they right to push him. He doesn't talk about it now because its painful for him to revisit it. He has found another meaning for it all these years later but at the time it was about an old flame. If you watch their film I think its all on their. He's interviewed at length about it and he opens up alot

You might have explained to her that the beginning of the video was not the intro to the song. Kirk was just fiddling around for a few minutes before the song actually began.

I remember this Concert. Rock am Rick is a gigantic and pretty musically diverse Festival with Hip Hop and Electronic artists alongside Alternative and Metal Bands. When Metallica came out there, I think they played 3, 4 Song without a break and it was all Master of Puppets and earlier records. Their where a lot of people that knew Metallica only from the Black album and later and had no Idea about what was about to smack them across the face :D

The best live version of this song is still the one with the symphony orchestra from the double album. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the album. Here, however, the good man sometimes has problems keeping the notes and is also quite quick to sing. So compared to the orchestral version.
