Annoying Things ISTPs Say And Do. ISTP Most Annoying Traits - we all have annoying traits. There are amazing gifts we have that we shouldn't try to change, and there are also some edges that need refined. In this series... we're focusing on the edges.... with a fun tongue-in-cheek title.
✨ "We are all works of art and artists working on ourselves." ✨
If you'd like to see a video where I point out the ISTP strengths: • ISTP Personality Type ...
I LOVE ISTPs! Garrett has so many bromances with ISTPs 😂 Before moving, my best friend was an ISTP, and she's the Bomb. I love how principled ISTPs are and how much responsibility they take for themselves. Radical responsibility and it's refreshing.
*Sorry about the bad video quality toward the end & the bad audio gate going in and out.
0:00 About This Series
1:02 What we love about ISTPs
3:56 Function Overview
7:06 Ti Annoyances
15:03 Se Annoyances
17:45 Ni Annoyances
19:42 Fe Annoyances
27:00 Growth Tracks
29:29 We love ISTPs
*I'm loosely putting out these videos in order from least viewed types to most viewed types on my channel. So it will probably be SJs, SPs, NJs, then NPs. So don't worry... all types will get their turn.

Hi. I think I might be istp and I wanna ask what exactly do you mean by dark humor. I do sometimes, without meaning to, find myself laughing at jokes or puns abt death- esp if it lands really well, but I get really upset when someone makes a joke abt stuff like homophobia, racism, and rape(esp if its a middle-aged man).
@strawberryinsomnia9188

@jeebies1083 I doubt you’re ISTP; generally we wouldn’t get *upset*, per se, about even very inappropriate jokes. The tendency is more to ignore it with a stone face, mentally move the person to the “unpleasant” category, and avoid them in the future. People suck. It’s a fact. Why waste your energy getting upset?

I think I might be high Ti because, as a female, even if the joke is sexual, I laugh because it’s funny. Later someone usually explains to me why the joke was offensive. It takes a lot to offend me because I make fun of myself a lot.

The codependancy part spoke to me as an istp. I ended a relationship cus I started extending too much responsibility over my partner who was in a bad place and wouldn't take care of themselves, which became too much of a burden in the long run. I find the damsel in distress traits alluring cus they allow me to lean into being the rock of a relationship. Feeling strong and respected for the strenghts I bring and my ability to fix things is something I like. Moving forward, I think I need to understand a partner can appreciate what I bring without being weak themselves. Us istps are probably at our happiest with partners that are independent and capabel, so we don't feel trapped by their i insecurities and they don't feel like we underestimate/over-help them.

Interesting. My brother was an istp, an unhealthy istp. He took the personal responsibility idea way too far - he seemed to think that he was only responsible for himself and as such nothing he did should affect anyone else. And then when he realized his actions actually did affect other people he couldnt handle the guilt and shame, and then would go the escapist route. Vicious cycle. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and often laughed like crazy at something that struck him funny. We miss him.

@@nlm6183 Sorry about your brother. Any personality can lead to it's own demise and istp are pessimistic by nature. Since we generally have a nihilistic outlook on life most things we do seem irrelevant in the bigger picture (hence why we can act so unhinged if we decide to). He probably didn't plan to hurt anyone and truly was ignorant to the effect of his actions. As istp we're huge on the freedom of the individual. I'd rather keep the right of people to express themselves and possibly hurt each other than fall back on censorship and rules. The idea is that others can't controll what you are feeling more than you allow them to- so if you chose to get hurt by an opinion it's your choice etc. It would be amazing if it worked in practice like your brother likely believed.

Female ISTP here. I would totally make that Dolly Parton joke, and probably have. I just say things, and don't have a really complex censor. That being said, I know enough to try to avoid certain types of things with certain groups of people. Basically, I assume that every person not in my small friend group is overly sensitive, incredibly PC, etc. This avoids huge issues. I rarely get why people are super sensitive about a lot of these things, but it doesn't mean I can't accept that this is a fact and try to be mindful of it.

i swore i was ISTP but test as INTP. the biggest thing that has confused me and makes me feel i really am ISTP is my high athletism. it has totally made it more clear to me the way you explain it that i am indeed an ISTP, but in an unhealthy mode...put on weight, pessimistic, dissociate, use alcohol....all of it. and the whole time i'm in dispair because i'm not in my right body...i try to explain it to people, but i don't think they really get it. i'm out of shape saying how i'm really an athlete. this is actually helping me gather the inspiration to get back to my true self and i thank you!

I test resulted for both, tested mostly intp especially during my pregnancies... but same. I don't make sense as an intp. I refuse. Sex drugs rock and roll and sports and social justice/anarchy. I had a similar moment where I wondered whether I was an ISTP, I think mostly it comes from ISTP stereotypes being portrayed as males and the cognitive functions being overlayed with male stereotypes of interests, hobbies etc. In addition, I have the same you are saying, I think it's because of the third function inhibiting your actual potential. Its kind of you would be extremely good at SE if it weren't about the stupid NI getting in the way.

Thank you, Alexis for another wonderful video. I definitely have the "feature" of an ISTP to where I have to point out when people are doing it "wrong" or not according to a procedure that is not flawed in any way. The rules that make sense are paramount to an ISTP like myself, and I do sometimes try to reinforce that rule because it just makes logical sense and trying to skirt it could end up in injury or the other person getting fired. This is all workplace behavior I'm describing. I tend not to skirt the rules if they make logical sense, otherwise, I'm just not going to do it. Why stop at a stop sign when there aren't any other cars? If I see cars, I stop as required, just for an example.

Oh yeah. I, an ISTP, and a female coworker who I now recognize as an ISTP, worked together in IT (of course). We had a spoken agreement that if we ever had any issues between us, we'd talk, and not take it anywhere like a supervisor or HR. We had a consistent flowing banter that would be considered sexual harrassment by HR, but it kept us laughing in a stressful environment. It was NEVER a problem. This is why ISTPs can find a lot of types to be exhausting to be around. They all seem like they want to have a bad time for no reason.

The analysis paralysis for the ISFP I think has more to do with their low Te (getting things done.). As an ISTP I did not relate to this part but I can VERY much relate to having reluctance to start things so we may look the same. I am aware that people’s feelings get hurt by my words but if I believe telling the truth is in the person’s best interest I will say it. It is not fear that keeps me from getting out more or making changes; it is my Ne blind spot that fails to see possibilities until I observe someone else doing it. Good job👍

(For context I've spent years obsessively studying MBTI and Jung's work.) I've always disliked the term "unhealthy." Abnormal is not necessarily unhealthy. I grew up spending time with friends who weren't into sports or things like that, so I ended up spending a lot of time poring over DnD character sheets and video games. I do *like* sports but I'd rather hang out inside and play a mechanically intense character in a fighting game, or find 10 different ways to sort my Magic cards before throwing them back in a pile. As I developed, I ended up with a preference for Ni (as far as I can tell) over Se. Not in the "looping" sense, which I've experienced for sure, but just got very good at filling in the missing information between facts because I was doing it all the time instead of running around like a reckless scallywag. I don't obsess over things or come up with wacky conspiracy theories, and I don't hide in my room in crippling depression. There. My need to be a nitpicky know-it-all has been sated. Later.

A lot of good insights, nice job. We can sense that you are not roasting out of resentment but out of sincere interest. Just one contradiction : ISTP should do consensus joke... and go out with people more often. Well, we tend to avoid people because a lot of them are offended by who we are, how we think. For example, your story of "Dolly Parton" joke is typical. Our Ti identify a mass hysteria about sexism and racism that allows narcissistic individuals to play the victims like hell. Sorry, but as an ISTP, i'll borrow your Dolly Parton joke and over-used it to spot the fake victims and crush their bigotry. That's the tough side of personal responsibility, sorry ^^

To me, i love to make dark joke only around people i trusted because boy, do people always get offended by my joke like all the time. But yeah, i learn to read the room more and careful with my surrounding. Sometimes, i throw a dark joke when it 'feel' okay and usually people will laugh at my joke🌝 At there, i realize a bad or 'offensive' joke can be a good joke when you understand your surroundings well enough.

@@lailaisaidit2223 I agree, but we are not referring to the same situation. You think of your private circle, and I of the political dimension of humor. It's one thing to hurt a friend with a sarcastic joke, it's another thing to spank someone who takes advantage of the collective indignation to let off steam or play the white knight. Today, we spit on racism or sexism, yesterday we pointed the finger at those who did not go to Mass, and in Roman times, they threw into the void those who had the "evil eye". Every era has its share of hypocrites, and hitting them hard... with dark humor is just the first step. Sorry for the late reply, i don't verify my youtube notifications very often.

I originally tested as an INFJ and now I relate more to ISTP (I actually got ISTJ but did not relate to it at all). I relate to a lot of ISTP but struggle with Se. I think I am often caught up in the issues you listed for Ni. Very much stuck in my head, focused on ruminating instead of taking action. We know what we're saying and doing, it's very deliberate, and well thought out. It probably wasn't YOU specifically in that moment but he most likely felt strongly about the fear many people have around flying on September 11th now and he got annoyed and nipped it in the butt so it wouldn't be a conversation lol homie skipped that topic like an annoying ad. So coworker story... Let me preface that she wanted to go home early after just clocking in (it was a slow day waiting tables) and not doing anything other than sit on her phone... so she asked if she could leave and I said no you just got here and I was waiting for you to leave and you always leave early so she blames being sick (something she's been doing for weeks and weeks) but I said " Well when I'm sick I call off, go to the doctor and take care of myself. If I come into work I come in do my job and am committed to being here. I don't come in and half ass shit like a lot of other people here do" and I walked away acting like I wasn't just coming for her!!!!!!🥲

As an ISTP I think there’s a “down-to-earth” element in people who can see the value in dark/controversial humor. I just don’t think there’s any use in pretending that these issues don’t exist and I think comedy is a great lens to view the world and all its evils through. People who are easily offended have this pseudo morality about them and it’s the most annoying shi* ever. It you don’t wanna hear it then remove yourself from the situation but don’t ask me to temper down my sense of humor.

You like ISTP´s to be more chatty but then when they are which isn´t comfortable for us, your Fi judges truly innocent silly comments not meant to hurt or offend anyone. Being accepted is one of the core needs of an IXTP. When you ask questions that you can easily know the answer to, we are like just think before you ask me that lol (like ´did you go to work today´). Unless you´re actually sweet but kind of slow, we will patiently answer you, but if we know you are intelligent enough, we get sassy because we know you can do better. high standards? Nah, I'm typed as istp and most times when things don't go my way I move on or 'give up'. I think our instinct helps us prioritize what to waste our energy on. I may know I'm not good at something, but if it's good enough to pass and I cant do any better, it's good enough to let go and I don't worry about it anymore edit: I realize Im acting like an istp by focusing on this minor comment made rather than the bigger picture lmao edit2: my sister is an isfj and I would say she is usually responsible for me lol

it's interesting that your description of their functions differs from Cognitive Personality Theory's channel about the ISTP, because he explains that due to Ti-Ni, they WON'T be precise and instead be more general and vague with their knowledge. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h8-qm8KUxtq9Y2w.htmlsi=2mIZcUDEx8jiC22v

Developing an inferior function (at least the way it seems to be described in videos) is never a good idea. No matter the function, telling a type they need to strengthen the weakest part of themselves will only stress them and set them back further psychologically. Fi doms will never be satisfied with the level of Fe they get from xSTPs because it is and always be, immature in use. So when you tell an ISTP to develop Fe what you get is more morally inappropriate jokes because that is them using their Fe. Yes, each type can “develop” their functions, but they have a limit. One that we, as humans, need to accept if want a level of harmony. I mean, you wouldn’t ask a pastry chef to build you a house, would you?

I've actually known several ISTPs who I think have developed great Fe balance, and I don't see any of those inappropriate type jokes. Personally, I as an ISFP have found tremendous benefit in working on my inferior Te. It's all about balance. Fi without Te doesn't ultimately get my Fi what it wants. Balancing all the functions brings you to the healthiest "you" you can be. I think it's also helpful to remember there are eight functions, not just four. A person's inferior function isn't their "worst" per se, it's actually their fourth best. So working on that is working on one of your top four strengths.

Personally, I disagree with where you seem to be setting the limit. I’ve seen quite a few people grow quite significantly in their weaker functions. It is still an area where they are less capable and get drained/frustrated easier, but it can be used in a perfectly acceptable manner and isn’t seen as “immature”, but perhaps simply not a “strength”.

@@mariap1087 perhaps, but your descriptions were suggesting that you were setting the “limit” relatively low. See you first 2 paragraphs for example - I’m also not the only commenter that understood it this way. And sure, just telling someone to develop a weakness isn’t always effective by itself, but often these videos don’t get into how, because that wasn’t the topic/point of that particular video. There’s plenty of resources/videos out there on how to actually develop, and the individual also has to take some ownership in evaluating their own individual circumstances.
