This Illayaraja- Kamal song is one of the most cherished Tamil song by Malayalees by miles. i have seen in so many occasions in Kerala whereever it is performed how people enjoy this song. Anoop, what a talent, his Tamil singing is too good generally of what i have heard and his rendition of Kamal's lines that comes in between..was superb!

@@meghananarayana7680 I am a Tamilian from Kerala. Kerala people like Tamil stars. There is huge fan base for Kamal Haasan since late 1980's here just like in "TN". people here in several districts understand Tamil easily. They also like Ilayaraja very much. His tamil songs are very popular in Kerala and generally Kerala people like Tamil songs. "kanmani" song was naturally huge hit here since the movie was released. Its a cult song.

I remember an award function in which KJ Yesudas and Shreya Ghosal sang Mundram Pirai song. Mamooty was sitting in first row. The singers sang Hindi version (Surmai Akhiyon mein) for 75% of the song. Then Yesudas switched to Tamil version towards the end "Kanai Kalaimane". Mammotty who was silent when hindi version of song was sung, started humming tamil version when Yesudas started singing in Tamil. Not that Mammoty does not know hindi, it is how much he likes Tamil and relates to Tamil. Tamil is like 2nd language to malayalees in Kerala!

meghananarayana7680, India's FINEST COMPOSER, ILAYARAJA made Keralites LOOK INTO Tamil music and made Tamil almost like a SECOND LANGUAGE of the state! From the time (1981) he was easily able to get in to Keralites' hearts with great albums and songs like Thumbi vaa, Keralites have been enamored with HIS MUSIC. This is just ONE from the EMPEROR's OCEAN of DISCOGRAPHY. Mollywood movies like Joseph, Nayattu, Kaalaa, Ishq etc. have featured his songs. PREMAM (2015) featured THIS iconic song. Since this movie is also related to "caves", director would have thought of using this song which was already like an ANTHEM in Kerala (director Alphonse Puthren said!).
