Ugh, so nice to hear someone else say they didn't enjoy ADSOM!! I too have a difficult relationship with Schwab, City of Ghosts was fun though - although semi nostalgic for me since it reminded me of the Mediator series by Meg Cabot that I adored when I was younger

I read one of the queen’s thief books in elementary school, and initially had no idea I was reading it out of order until the middle and I was like, “Ah. I enjoyed Rebel of the Sands, and the subsequent books more, but I'm new here and idk how much our reading tastes overlap. 😅 It is one of those books where you can read the first few chapters and get an idea of what the book is like. The main character is a bit chaotic and a big part of the plot of the first book is internal, both reasons I enjoyed it and why I've heard others didn't like it.

I am also trying to emulate the energy of only keeping books that I am going to reread or pass down, and not just books that I liked just fine. I really want to go through my shelves again with this mindset. I loved Shadow of the Fox but I also have talked about how I feel like it's for a specific type of person. I often compare it to anime and/or video games because of how it diverts from the main short to tackle these side stories/quests. I, personally, love that, but I totally understand how others don't. Honestly, I'd say just unhaul them all.

I read “A Crown of Wishes” and “The Startouched Queen” and they were okay. “A Crown of Wishes” was the better of the two and had an interesting concept that I enjoyed. “The Startouched Queen” had an interesting concept but was slow-moving and took me forever to get through. I had to make myself finish it. Once I finished it, I thought it was okay but I don’t like having to push myself to finish books.

@nickycat115 жыл бұрын
@Jes Kameron I think Roshani's writing improved immensely with crown of wishes. In general I think that COW takes itself a lot less seriously than STQ, so it's more of a fun quick fun that isn't trying so hard to be deep and poetic

Just something about one of the books you are unhauling because the author is white instead of 'looking' Middle Eastern. I have many friends that come from that part of the world that are not dark skinned but are white. I also have a pen pal from Turkey that has a very western sounding name and is 'fair complexioned'. I mean, I get hating on authors that don't come from a specific area of the world. I get like that when it comes to American authors trying to write books set in France or French speaking Canada, and don't get French names correct, is ignorant of the history, and puts French dialogue in a book with French characters. However, a 'white' person isn't unheard of in south Asia or the Middle East when you consider the history of those countries. The Barbary pirates were notorious for raiding European coasts and taking women and men to sell in the slave trade, and European DNA can be found in many of these people's descendants.

typically when i say white i am referring to american authors with no middle eastern heritage. you're correct, there are lighter skinned, even white people in other countries though.
