Precisely why homeboy has 0 hardware..... He didnt check his ego until well late in his career (Portland Melo.. this Melo actually played defense)... IIRC he played pretty good defense in these olympics.. Im sure George Karl (Den HC at the time) was hoping to see that level of effort/intensity on defense during the regular season..... NOPE.. Another thing that widen the rift between Karl and Melo (Karl had a huge ego too...)

All these guys had career years after being around Kobe in 2008: LeBron first MVP and Kobe comparisons, Wade led the league in scoring, Melo first conference finals (only to get beaten by Kobe's Lakers), Dwight making his first finals (only to get beaten by Kobe's Lakers), CP3 became the best point guard in the league. Kobe deserves some serious respect because of his work ethic. These stories pop up all the time. And yes, he wanted to play defense against the best player on all the international teams. One of the reasons he's a top player of his generation was because he had the talent, but he also outworked everyone. MJ was like that, too.
@dawb86
@dawb86 6 ай бұрын
Nah. He's SINGLE HANDEDLY the greatest player of his generation. He didn't have the "talent" of the other greats. Natural jumping ability, explosiveness, speed, strength, physical attributes was nowhere near that of the Vince, Rose, Westbrook, MJ, Wade, T-Mac, Dwight, LeBron, etc. Even AI for his size was extremely naturally athletic. Other than height it ALL came from hardwork and dedication to the craft for Bean.....

Love this story/segment of the movie! When I coached Jr High BBall, had a very talented group but they were still kids, BUT curious. I remember days before practice I'd purposely show up with a tee shirt w/ chalk on my back from a heavy squat session, knee sleeves down by my ankles, still sweaty. Or come in wearing a tank top after an arm day or bench/back day lmao! Those boys were always curious asking questions about fitness. So I'd give them a rundown as to what I did on that day, explaining the benefits of your health - long term, looking good for yourself or wanting to impress ladies, keeping your body strong just cause! Their 6th and 7th grade years we were runners up against a power house middle school team. The first year we should've won but our inexperience showed, the year after our 2nd leading scorer broke his foot and our shot blocking center couldn't make the game due to his parents being out of town! Heartbreaking. And this was before I ever saw this movie obviously and I never knew these stories about Kobe and this team, THIS story in particular lol! So that summer in 2019 I'd reach out to the boys on social media/chat room we had going on and I'd tell them "meet me at UMaine football stadium, we're going to run the steps, work on sprints, lunges, light tire flips, some plyometrics as well." Other days we'd work indoors, doing body weight exercises, stretches, regular basketball drills, shooting, going over the triangle offense etc., so we'd be more then prepared. We ended up winning EVERY league we were in that year 19-20! This same group, now going into their senior year won STATES in bball and were runner up in football this past year! I'd like to sit here and brag saying "yeah, I started this up." Maybe I did but the most important thing I see NOW is I did my job! I taught kids/teens good habits regarding health and fitness and it's paid off. Some of these boys now are almost as big as me... Not quite BUT getting there!!! LMAO! Just clicked the like button on this video BTW! ;)

@@dyreman20True, but circumstances also contributed that also. Had he taken a shorter contract in Denver like LeBron told him, he would've been able to join LeBron and DWade in Miami. That was supposed to be the plan originally. But Bosh joined the group instead.
@dyreman20
@dyreman20 10 ай бұрын
@drestathagangsta8880 Melo didn't need to be on a super team to win a chip, Neither did LeBron for that matter. But my point is I think Melo's prime years could have been extended a bit if he took his fitness a bit more serious. Even if he didn't win a chip, that Denver team could have contended a bit more as well as that NY team who had Amarè. But Melo constantly suffered with little nagging injuries which held him and his team back.
