He has also was on stage doing a duet with Elton during Elton's concerts. Taron actually sang the songs in Rocketman (and it was really hard telling Elton's voice from Taron's. Taron sang this song in SING!. So Malik gets the oscar for playing freddy in bohemian rhapsody but Taron sings the songs in Rocketman and doesnt even get noticed.

This number in "Sing" apparently helped Taron get the part in Rocketman. I forget the interview it happened in, but Elton John has said that he was impressed by the performance and considered Taron for the part based partially off of that.

Bernie's lyrics had been present on all of Elton's albums during the 1976-82 period except 1978's A Single Man and 1979's Victim of Love (though in the latter case even Elton didn't have anything to do with the writing), though Bernie had written only some of the songs on those albums instead of all of them. Even in 1978, Bernie's lyrics were featured on B-Sides and the stand-alone single "Ego". However, it is true that 1983's Too Low for Zero was the first time since 1976 that Bernie's lyrics made up all of the songs on the album. The only writing credit for anyone besides Elton and Bernie was Davey Johnstone on "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues".

I remember Sing. Good movie with some good songs. This is a very '80s song. I believe it's about the fact that Elton came through a very long and dark journey that ended in rehab, and "he's still standing, better than he ever did". A lot of people had written him off and said he was done making hits before this song came out. But Elton has gotten it over on everyone. He just gets better with age.

Sir Elton John along with Bernie Taupin were one of the greatest singer/songwriter teams in rock history. Elton started with big hits like Crocodile Rock and Saturday Nights alright for Fighting and continued aging with his fans. In later life he sang beautiful songs like Blue Eyes and Sacrifice. Amusingly enough, the guy who did the voice acting for the gorilla in Sing was Taron Egerton - who later went on to star in Kingsman 2, which featured Elton John. And as a kicker, he then went on to not only play Elton himself, but even recreate the original I’m Still Standing music video for Rocketman, the exceptionally good Elton John biopic.

"Candle in the Wind" is a threnody with music and lyrics by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. It was originally written in 1973, in honor of Marilyn Monroe, who had died 11 years earlier. In 1997, John performed a rewritten version of the song, "Candle in the Wind 1997", as a tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine listed the original version of the song at No. 347 of its 500 greatest.

EJ was very much out of the closet by this point in his career... He was unapologetically flamboyant so the creative part of his music vids were just par for the course... Everyone knew it was just his style to be this way and it caught on as one of the reasons why so many gay people of the time chose to show that same outward pride in their sexuality. I'm a Rock man at heart but even I know that EJ was undeniably a great talent AND ambassador for self-expression.

Elton came out with a new song in May that is really good. He does a duet with Olly Alexander (other name is Years and Years) at the BRIT awards. It's a cover of a Pet Shop Boys song called "Its a Sin" Elton's voice is pretty song for 74 and the voice range of Olly's goes really well with the deeper voice of Elton.

Suggestions (Album versions): Honky Cat...funky piano for Jay, smokin' horns for Amber...it even has some banjo! I played this song non-stop when it first came out and it's still one of my favorites. Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting is way too much fun... the drummer kills it and Elton tears that piano UP! Good ole' rock-n-roll at it's finest!

I watch SING with my granddaughter all the time! I absolutely love it! The gorilla’s (Johnny) voice is Taron Egerton. He is the Welsh actor who plays Elton John in Rocketman, the biography movie about Elton John. You should watch that movie, it’s really good! I also can’t wait for SING 2 to come out next month!

Don't know if you guys still read these but if you want to see Elton John live...TIME IS RUNNING OUT!!!! His farewell tour is still going on. Just caught him in Dallas. And unlike some artists... I am pretty sure it is definitely a farewell... He is in hos 70s and has some health issues. And badically he says he is just tired. He doesnt have the moves he once did... But he still ROCKS a piano. And most of his band members have been with him for decades so they are flawless.

For someone who loves the piano - please react to Burton Cummings (lead singer of the Guess Who, you've reacted to them I think), My Own Way to Rock is one that really shows his skill, and a live version so you can really see it.

Y’all need to watch Elton’s “This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore” video. It features Justin Timberlake portraying Elton thru the various stages of his career. The song is great too. As far as best dressed musicians, I’d like to add Robert Palmer and Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music) to the list.

There's nothing like hearing a song and then finding out it's a cover. Then listening to the original. One of the best I've found, and 💙 is Miserlou. It dates back centuries. Has been performed by hundreds of artists, in numerous styles. First time I heard it, was Dick Dale and the Deltones. Check that one out sometime!

One of my favorite Elton songs. Just a great beat and fun song that everybody can find something to relate to it with. There was so much controversy surrounding his sexual orientation in the late 70s after a failed marriage and him confirming being bi-sexual. Smear stories and other trash showing up on the cover of every gossip magazine in the states and bigots that took a lot of shots at him in the media. Seems so bizarre today. Likely a big part of the not so subtle sexual innuendos in the video clearly relating to all sexual orientations. This song seemed to be the perfect answer for his career still being viable in the 80s despite all the attacks on him in the late 70s. By this time he was not hiding his bi-sexual orientation and came out as gay about 5 years later. I used to have a concert video he did from Disney World in the mid-90s. Just him and an incredible percussionist using a variety of percussion instruments from massive gongs to steel drums. One of the best performances I have ever seen of him and before he had his throat surgery that altered his vocal range. If anyone knows where to find that these days please let me know!

What makes Elton John a class act is he separated his music from his orientation. He never felt the need (as is the case today) to throw it in people faces so even those that may disagree with his life style could enjoy his music. What's more, he attended and performed at Rush Limbaugh's wedding. An example of how we can live together in a world that often disagrees.

"50 something" syndicated music request, I disagree with Dustin by a L-O-N-G shot (respectfully). Try some truly great songs instead: Madman Across the Water, Burn Down the Mission, Levon, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Harmony, Elderberry Wine, Don't Let the Sun go Down on Me, Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Grey Seal, Honky Cat, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, Daniel, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, The Bitch is Back, Pinball Wizard are all superior songs to anything that came after 1976 in the humble opinion of all those people born before 1960. Come you "elders" who know better....chime in!

A couple of uptempo ones you missed out: Philadelphia Freedom and Don't Go Breaking My Heart. From the 80's onwards, the only decent album he released was "Jump Up!", which had the classic ballad "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)" amongst many other strong tracks. After that, the only track I really liked of Elton's was the fantastic Shep Pettibone remix of "I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That" which turned the reasonable pop number of the original into a barnstorming dance floor filler (so good, even Elton remarks how great it is at the very end, though most of the versions on KZfaq cut that bit out!). 70's Elton was stunning though - massive high quality output that only the Beatles could match in terms of quantity and quality.

I'm chiming and you just named all of the songs that I would listen to.. with Elton, it was easy to listen to the entire albums, such as Yellow Brick Road and Madman.. Tumbleweed Connection and Captain Fantastic. Harmony is one of my favorites.. All the Young Girls Love Alice, Roy Rogers, Razor Face.. all of them. He's my favorite artist, if you can't tell... although I kind of fell off after Captain Fantastic.. I'm like you.. I would rather hear "Now I know.. Spanish Harlem are not just pretty words to say".. than I'm still standing, although I will find myself singing along, I'm sure. Texan Love Song has always been a favorite of mine too.
