I think that it's perfectly fine to short cut some finishing as long as the finished garment won't suffer because of it sometimes it more important to finish something than to try to make it perfect.

So encouraging to see you promote cutting some (very specific) corners. Not all of us have the patience of time to do everything to perfection and so knowing where you can be a little slack takes some of the pressure off to be a perfect sewer

This comes at the perfect time. My friends and I have been talking about doing a LotR themed DnD and we all plan to dress up as our characters and I've been collecting ideas for a female hobbit but for some reason I did not find a whole lot? And this is exactly what I've been looking for. It turned out stunning and is definitely something to be inspired by! Lovely video as always, cuddles to baby bat 😊💜

This is lovely I love the layering in this outfit. I'm currently making my first sewing commission (a modernized kilt) and it's also just rectangles which is both fun and scary math wise (said a person who studied in applied mathematics faculty xd)

I'm starting to have a hobbitbounding/ historybound wardrobe bit by bit. I use the pieces a lot. Making my own clothes made me realize I get much more use and enjoyment out of wearing them. I love how the outfit turned out. The simple things are often the most beautiful 😊

Love when a project goes smoothly! This earth tone Tolkiein-y hobbit is wonderful. So so so pretty. Sustainable shortcuts are hella valid and great to know about! Also its honestly ridiculous how obsessed I am with that green corduroy. Big fan of corduroy and I need more of it in my life.

You have such good taste. I love the colors chosen, usually Hobbit outfits are wonderful, but too brown for me. Also your shirts are wonderful! I'd totally wear the skeleton one! I've been eyeing the waistcoat thing for a while, so it was nice to see it made. I always love your content. (I'm always pro pockets, btw). Even on these videos when things go pretty well and you say that you don't have much to say, you still have good tips and tricks for us.

aw thanks! I definitely like to have a bit more color than just brown on me, I feel like all brown is not super interesting to look at 😅 aah thank you about the shirts too! haha I have so many shirts from my edgy teen days I've been wanting to dress a liiiitle edgier again haha. I'm glad they're still helpful even if I don't have a ton of stuff to explain!

I made that Weskit pattern and also changed it up a bit. I cut out the exact pattern but I wanted a lace up where the buttons were meant to close so I just folded and rolled an inch of fabric at a time until it hit under my bust in the way I wanted before sewing eyeholes. I also made it totally reversible and I'm in LOVE with it! Yours looks so good and now I might make another with buttons!

I agree completely with your comments on shortening projects where you can without reducing the integrity. Sometimes you just need to give yourself the satisfaction of completion, but when you know how to sew, you can do it without compromising your durability. I'm glad you do that for yourself!

I love that you use the same type of machine I do when I’m at work. I sew in a furniture factory and we have those hefty metal sewing machines just like that and I’ve never seen anyone else on KZfaq use them before. Super cool! 🧵🪡

I love this color combination! And I like seeing earthy tones still have color (those greens!) and are not just beige and brown :) On your shortcut vs. sustainability rant: I think it is nice to address how some things might or might not mean a garment holds up for longer. I come from a "sewing my own clothes" standpoint, not from costumes/cosplay, so my idea of how often I want to be able to wear something is different (like, a costume might be worn fewer just because, but then I imagine it might also go through more stress in one wear than a dress I wear to work for a day). But it is still worthwhile to think about longevity in the context of costumes and how one can make something in a more sustainable way (And I don't think you need to feel like you have to justify the way you make shortcuts, though info on how to make sustainable shortcuts is welcomed)

I definitely don't wear all my costume pieces as daily wear, but most of the skirts I do! so those need to stand up to daily wear as well as climbing trees and running around outside haha

I just rewatched a few of your videos before I start making some stays and i really enjoyed your reveal footage on each video. If you still have the footage, would you consider doing a mash up lookbook type video. Everything you make is soo lovely it would be great to see everything all in one, two or three videos 😉

I feel like you are that kind of person that in Sweden would say "Om det finns hjärterum finns det stjärterum" which is a ideum that basically mean if there is heart space there is butt space which in turn means if there is always space for a friend. (Also on a side note you seem like the nicest person I've come across her on the Internet, And your pretty??!! Well, Hello Happy Hobbit. The outfit is lovely. Well done. Glad you Kids had fun at the photoshoot. I just got in the mail a vintage westkit pattern (that I'll have to upsize about 2" - not fun, but doable, she types with hope). Because I've been wanting a vest that will properly fit me for this side of forever. Huzzah. I'm about to start fixing the drawer unit that my sewing machine sits on. Once that is done (hopefully it won't be too complicated) the sewing begins in earnest. I will admit to feeling a little bit of stage fright at the idea of mock-ups, but what else is not new. I'll be starting with a dress pattern that is officially a little too big - hopefully I won't have to do a FBA and just have to take in the seams and darts a bit... - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

aah good luck!! mockups should help eliminate stage fright, they're just there for practice! but too big is definitely easier to alter than to small at least 😊

I thoroughly love all your videos. I really enjoy how you explain what your thought process is and how you show what you are doing, and even the sounds of what you are doing. My only current request? My daughter and I have autism and the background music is too loud compared to all the other sounds. So we cant hear you speak, or its louder than the sounds of your activities, and it comes through the TV SUPER SUPER loud. And i do love your music choices. But especially for my daughter who is sound sensitive, it makes it hard to watch some of your videos with me. And she adores you and your kitties 🐈‍⬛. Thanks. 🥰

thanks! hmm I do all my editing and sound balancing on my laptop so it might be an issue of different types of speakers? I promise I do already lower the volume of the music quite a bit while I'm editing! I'll see what I can do about it but I think also maybe your tv speakers might need to be re-calibrated? thanks for letting me know!

I loved the pastel look too, but this outfit just yells Hobbit from across the room! And those greens are so gorgeous on you!! You can pull off literally any color, how do you do that!? XD Re: sustainability rant - I totally agree. I try as hard as I can to make at least some parts of my costumes be wearable items in daily life, and I definitely already wear my clothes down to nothing before spending a load of money on new ones. I always find ways to reuse parts of costumes in other costumes (e.g. the belts, sash, shirt, and wig from my OC that I'm cosplaying in my icon are all pulled from my "Black Sails" Anne Bonny cosplay)

thank you! haha it's reaaaally just dependent on the shade of the color, like I feel like I can wear specific shades of every color but there's some shades that don't look great on me 😅 like really cool bubblegummy pinks i think look kind of off with my skin tone haha reusing costume pieces is great!! i did so much anime cosplay that a lot of my stuff is super specific so I'm trying to build out a more multipurpose wardrobe for costumes now

im confused about the weskit piece. it shows that its supposed to fit below the bust, not over it. but you altered to come higher up. was this just for asthetic you were going for? i've never heard of a weskit before. i'll have to look up more info on that. as usual, i've enjoyed watching your content. you have one of the best asmr sounds in the sewing community (you compete with nicole rudolph) :)

yeah I didnt want to have to wear a bra so it was kind of important that it come up enough on my bust. also it just fit kind of funny when it was under my bust anyways so when I raised it all it fit much better!

thank you! I bought it from Mood Fabrics but it is definitely not lightweight 😅 it's going to be very nice and toasty in the winter haha. but for lighter weight wools B.Black & Sons is really good, Mood will also have some, Burnley and Trowbridge has medium light wool, like it's not really lightweight but its not super heavy either.

Is it weird that I've never used 5/8 seam allowances? I've always used 1/2 or 1/4...I make all my patterns though...I agree pockets are pretty essential. I would be very interested in a stash tour and Ideas for busting that stash...I've noticed when I look up stash busting there aren't very great ideas, they are more for quilting and such and I'm not about that life. Also I too love Apocalyptica! I feel like we would be good friends! This video was so sweet! I'm debating starting to create videos for youtube, but I'm nervous and not confident in myself.

oh yeah I've always been confused why commercial patterns use a 5/8 seam allowance. the only time I use them on my own patterns is when I'm intending to use french seams. For stash busting one idea I liked a lot was making pattern weights! I made little pyramid weights and filled them with beans 😊 hmm maybe I'll see if I can come up with some ideas and make a video for it. You should totally make your own videos too, if you have any questions I'm happy to offer whatever help I can!

hmm i like medieval/tudor era a lot, and the big fluffy victorian stuff haha. I also love tang dynasty clothing. for more contemporary I mostly only like the 70s from the past century 😅

Your videos are so nice to relax to, the ASMR fabric cutting is really nice. The paper cutting noises I could really do without tho, I don't know if anyone else has noticed but they can be kind of grating to listen to. If you feel like it maybe tone down the audio for the paper cutting sound specifically. If not totally cool! I can deal, I might be the only one who dislikes that noise lol! Thanks for putting in the effort to make these awesome vids at all, hope this doesn't come across as rude or ungrateful 🤡 This look is so freaking cute by the way, super inspiring. The weskit bodice thing turned out adorable!
