I'm with you. RRHOF lost all credibility years go. In my opinion and the opinion of many of his peers Paul Rodgers one of the very best Vocalist of the rock and roll era. Simon Kirke , Mick Ralphs....under recognized for their talents and under appreciated by many. At the end of the day, Bad Company is in my HOF!

I think you guys completely missed the point of the song. It's warning about the dangers of stardom. Johnny rocketed to stardom and then his star came crashing down just as quickly. The third verse implies that Johnny took his own life or he accidentally OD'd. "Bottle of whiskey, sleeping tablets by his head". He died via a mixture of drugs and alcohol. The pressures of fame got to him.

Paul Rodgers is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Can you believe that they haven't been inducted in to the Hall of Fame yet. This album is one of the greatest debut albums of all time.

This song was partly inspired by Jim Morrison quote "“I see myself as a huge fiery comet, a shooting star. Everyone stops, points up, and gasps ‘Oh look at that!’ Then-whoosh, and I’m gone…and they’ll never see anything like it ever again… and they won’t be able to forget me-ever.” Paul Rogers said he wanted to keep the name neutral for all the singer that died to early .

Shooting Stars burn bright, but not for long. They burn out . Everyone loves them , but they fade and are forgotten . The song is pretty deep, always one of my favorites . That bass line is one of my fav's for sure :)

What part of Canada? I'm from Michigan but my dad left the States after my folks divorced. He lived in Toronto most of his adult life but spent a year or so in Winnipeg. I hear Randy Bachman is soon to be reunited with his stolen guitar at the Canadian embassy in Tokyo on Canada Day after 46 years.

Paul Rogers knows that story well. He sang with Queen after Freddie died. He sang in Bad Company. He sang in the legendary band: Free Plus his solo work and one-off collaborations. Paul Rogers is a MAJOR player in the History of Rock!

This was on the same album as "Feel Like Makin' Love". Another banger from that album is "Good Lovin' Gone Bad". And since you love doing"same name" songs (like "Talk Talk" by Talk Talk), you should do Bad Company's song "Bad Company".

Singer Paul Rodgers, one of the greatest voices in Rock, stated that one of the inspirations for the lyrics of "Shooting Star" was the drug & alcohol related death of former Free bandmate and guitarist Paul Kossoff in 1976.

This one always touches my heart when I hear it. The way they sing "Don't you know..." is tender and emotional. Almost feels like gospel music. And the ending, of course, is tragic and sadly far too common among celebrities. It's a good warning for up-and-comers in that world...don't tie up your self-worth in how "successful" or "famous" you are. Such things are usually fleeting. Let something else define you, like your happiness with your art. Or your kindness, what you've done for friends and family, etc.

As great as the whole sound of Bad Co. is, for ME, Paul Rogers' vocals are the crowning glory of this awesome supergroup. This music is coming up on 50 YEARS old, and the man can STILL sing like that. One of the great voices in all of ROCK....

I think the “shooting star “ reference is that a shooting star zooms across the sky, brilliant and bright for only a brief moment and then burns out.... like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, etc. I think it is uplifting that he is going to follow his dream, but fame and stardom, like life, is fleeting. Fwiw: A *shooting star* is far different from a _rising_ star. A rising star is something enviable, because it means great things lie just ahead. A shooting star, on the other hand, is -- while brilliant and fun to watch -- sadly, not long for this world. A quick flash of light... soon followed by a fatal burnout.

It’s criminal that Bad Company is not in the RRHOF, and I believe that it compounds the crime when they induct people like Dolly Parton. I love Dolly, but she’s as country as a turnip green! There is nothing even remotely rock-n-roll about her, NOT AT ALL.

Paul Rodgers, the lead vocalist, was also in the classic rock band Free, prior to Bad Co.. A few of classic songs by Free are "Alright Now", "Wishing Well" and "The Stealer". If you enjoy Bad Co., you would enjoy Free as well.

I have to agree on the band FREE .. their track "Alright Now" was always our skate song!! Didn't matter what we were doing or who we were talking to .. when the DJ put on Alright Now .. everyone dropped everything & loaded the rink instantaneously .. always a given. Once you fall from the sky, you are gone & forgotten. But as we all know, through music, these great artists will live forever. Unlike us. You two make the old woman smile with all the memories that come with a lot of the music you react to. This is a personal favorite for special reasons. Dated a musician back in my young days who loved this song. One night he was walking home from a gig and got jumped by some neo-nazi group. They didn't kill him but they slashed his face from forehead to chin. He never was able to deal with it and turned to drugs and alcohol. I stayed until he started getting violent. But he was that shooting star !

"Seagull". It's a softer song for Bad Company, but you'll be very glad you had the pleasure of hearing it. It's a great example of Paul Rodger's vocal range and it is a flat out beautiful song.

I bought this album on vinyl and have always felt that Bad Company don't get the recognition they deserve, but then the sheer volume of creativity that was coming out of the US and UK was phenomenal, so much terrific music gets overlooked.

Man.. Bad Company is just BAD ASS! The really cool thing about them to me is that they’re just a great straightforward rock band, with a great sound, that makes great songs. Simple.. they never really bother showing off too much, or get too flashy with long and overindulgent drum or guitar solos. They keep it straight and simple, and get right to the point: to ROCK. They don’t waste time getting down to business, and don’t seem too insecure like they have a chip on their shoulders and gotta add any gimmicks to “prove themselves” to anyone. Just solid, unpretentious rocking songs that pretty much anyone can groove to. Out of all the great bands from this amazing 70’s rock era, this band shows themselves to be really solid and consistent through and through.. one of my favorite bands ever, that makes cold beer taste even better. You’d be amiss to skip their epic title track “Bad Company”, but a great follow up, and my personal favorites are “Ready For Love”, “Running With The Pack” and “Gone Gone Gone”.

Paul Rodgers is one of the best voices in all of rock music. From his first group Free, with their hit All Right Now (there is an official live version of this song. Absolutely epic!). I saw his second band, Bad Company in 1976 at the San Diego Sports Arena. The best concert I ever saw. The crowd went insane, and they had to do 3 more ohn curs! Later band The Firm, he was approached to be lead singer of Deep Purple and Black Sabath. He did replace Freddie Mercury in Queen. John Mellencamp called Rodgers "the best rock singer ever"

My favorite band of all time. Bad Company was a super group comprised of members who had all been in successful bands before. Vocalist Paul Rodgers and the woefully underrated drummer Simon Kirke had been in Free (remember "All Right Now"?). Lead guitarist Mick Ralphs had been in Mott the Hoople, and bassist Boz Burrell had been in King Crimson, both successful bands in the UK. This song is oddly prescient. Released in 1975, it inadvertently foretold the death of Rodgers' and Kirke's former Free bandmate, guitarist Paul Kossoff a few months later. Pleeease do "Silver, Blue, and Gold." I think it's their best song.

Paul sang lead for another group before Bad Company. Check out any song by the group, "Free". Especially, "All Right Now". Enjoy!!

I hope it's not just me,when I say It makes me sad all of the artists dying too soon over the years. From Buddy Holly to Kurt Cobain on up; how much more music could we have had from them. I'll just say love y'all still& RIP.

Paul Rogers and Bad Company were so underrated. Arguably one of the top front men in Rock and Roll. This is a tribute to those in Rock and Roll that left us too soon.

The problem is that this song is also a warning. Shooting stars live bright but also burn out fast and die young. Just like a shooting star in the night sky.

I was lucky enough to see Bad Company in concert a couple of times back in the day. They were an awesome live group. My favorite song is “Seagull” 👵🏼❤️✌🏼😎

My first reaction to this was when i was a pre-teen, and hearing from my older brother that this was the song they played at his friend's funeral, who died of leukemia at 17, because it was his favorite song. It's been one of my favorite songs ever since, because it's so great, and so true.

Bad Company is widely considered the first Rock and Roll Supergroup. Singer Paul Rogers from Free, Guitarist Mick Ralphs from Mott the Hoople, Drummer Simone Kirke from Free, and Boz Burrell the bassist from King Crimson came together and really changed the music scene at the time. No one had ever taken the best parts from several groups and combined them. As someone else said, it is truly criminal that they are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Personally, I believe if they hadn't broken up in 1982, they probably would have been there by now. After 82 they had several group changes and a lot of hiatus periods that kind of muddied the waters on their legacy. That being said, when they brought Brian Howe in to replace Paul Rogers in the 90s, they were right back to form! A lot of other songs from the classic era have been suggested. I'd like to add a few from the Brian Howe era. "If You Needed Somebody" is amazing. As is "Boys Cry Tough" and "Holy Water." You should definitely check them out!

I remember I used to know every word to this song back in the 70s. Great storytelling. Most shooting stars come from nothing, and this is one example of it.

My favorite Bad Co. song. As much for the story as the music. The way that popularity is such a fleeting thing but in the long run can be eternal. "If you listen to the wind you can still hear him play". Chills every time!

Paul Rodgers, who wrote Shooting Star, the song is a warning. He wrote it about the casualties of the music business; people like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones as well as others who didn't make it. An eerie parallel to the character in this song is Paul Kossoff, who was Paul Rodgers' bandmate in the group Free. Kossoff died of a heroin overdose in 1976, a year after this was released. The guitarist was just 25 years old when he died.

Don’t forget that at the time this was written recording contracts were often so one-sided that writing hit songs didn’t move you to the “big time”, financially speaking.

This is probably my favorite Bad Company song as it was the first I was introduced to. I can still hear the scratch of the vinyl. “Silver, Blie and Gold” is my next favorite.

I think you folks missed some meaning here. A "shooting star" is a small, rapidly moving meteor that flares and then quickly burns up on entering the earth's atmosphere. The message being that fame is fleeting. You may be a star, but a shooting star won't be around for long.

Lends cred to holding friends and family as close and tight as possible. There are so many songs in the wind if you listen and so many musicians and singers that will live on in their sounds as long as they are played and enjoyed.

This takes me straight back to my freshman year in high school. This song was huge and Bad Company was everywhere. They have put out some great music and I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard this for the first time. Just damn good times back then as a teenager!
