Just comapre her body shape to that of some of the clearly unhealthy vegans and you can see that she is obviously doing something right.

For some women, periods are awful, a complete nightmare. Hormonally, emotionally, physically. I think that part, and the degree of it, is misunderstood in eating disorders. I come from a family of women who loved life after menopause. For some, "that time of the month", can be excruciating, and the last thing you want is to ever have it back.
@CocoLicious
@CocoLicious 4 жыл бұрын
@@Mikathedog100 I totally get that, but as a woman in potentially childbearing age, not having periods is not a good thing. Depending on what's wrong you can have abnormal cell growth in the uterus (if tissue is building up, it has to shed at some point) or destroying your ovaries from hormonal imbalances that trigger eggs not to grow fully. I take the pill as medication for it and believe me, I take it more months in a row to just don't have my period that often, but I just wanted to point out that not having it can point to a variety of medical conditions.
@annabeinglazy5580
@annabeinglazy5580 4 жыл бұрын
@th1smomentisfate Totally agree with that... now. But @car. A has a point. If your period is really bad, thinking about it logically can be hard. In school, I stay in bed one day a month because the cramps were so bad, and I was nauseous and shivering all day. If I had lost my period during that time, I honestly cannot promise that I would have gone to the doctor. I probably would have, but I can also imagine that I might have made up an excuse why it wasnt such a big deal, just to avoid it for another month or two. Brianna lost her period as a teenager AND in the midst of an eating disorder AND I dont know her education (sexual health education can be shockingly lacking in some parts of the world). All of that combined, I am not that surprised. Her mental state probably made up some excuse and then latched on to Freelee's bullshit.

@@annabeinglazy5580 My best friend has a special form of endometriosis and getting her period when there's tissue grow outside her uterus makey her faint and vomit, so she has to go to the hospital sometimes for it. When I first quit the pill and got no period for months, I found it pretty cool as well. So I really really get why one would shrug it of at first. And losing your period occasionally (due to stress or other mental health issues) is a thing as well. But really, if you don't have your period for years, please visit a doctor. Especially if having children is a wish for you in the future.

If you do decide to go vegan, this is a great channel. 🥰 Swayze went vegan for ethical reasons and I feel like this is the best way to go vegan permanently. But even choosing more vegan options can help too, like I have a friend who's probably about 90% vegan and although that's still not vegan, the vegan foods she does purchase, are helping increase our "humane footprint" in the food landscape, and if more and more people eat mostly vegan, that all adds up.

Maria I think it’s more than just the diet, but the eating disorder. Having such a severe disorder needs to make a total about face in her life to heal. Which means not placing such large restrictions upon yourself. My cousin was anorexic with moments of bulimia, it took a decade for her to get better because they had to break their habits and rules around food. Reducing everything down to a channel name is not helpful.

I feel like they're often people who have eating disorders and haven't ever gotten help for that; and then they go vegan and veganism becomes entangled in their pre-existing ED mindset. That's not going to be a sustainable and healthy way for someone to thrive. 😟

Yes. These people were often anorexic or bulimic and they looked at raw foodism as a way to finally get to eat food again while never gaining weight. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case, so when these young people with eating disorders start to gain weight, they panic and jump into HEAVY exercise. And then they jump into body building during recovery and it triggers everything all over again. It’s sad. And it’s even sadder that people like Freelee pray on these people by making promises of skinniness and recommending a stupid all fruit diet and essentially push them back towards their disorders.

Abso-fuckin'-lutely. My trainer was a competitive lifter and body builder for a bit, a very successful one, and he was miserable. He fully talks about it now. How it ran every aspect of his life. For instance, on his anniversary with his wife, she wanted to go out for sushi, he "had" to eat beforehand and then couldn't actually share a meal with her. In the restaurant. On their anniversary. Because it would have "messed up [his] training". I found that very sad and was super happy when he moved away from that mentality.

while that is true, it may also be a way to actually survive. i'd be dead by now, if it wasnt for veganism (and later, sports). after years of anorexia beginning in my very early teens, i went vegan with 17. while it certainly was a way to further restrict my food intake, it also made me actually eat and survive. that is 13 years ago. veganism was keeping me eating just enough to survive, but it was weight lifting and getting into sports that actually made me gain weight to a normal bmi range. so yes, it is still disordered thinking. it is still a very anxious relationship with food and my body. but at least i walk this place called earth! i acknowledge that i am still struggling, but i also honour my survival and allow myself to be happy that i found ways to keep going.

They seem to go on to some other extreme regiments, they continue to disregard science, and/or follow other misguided people who are completely clueless. I never see them say "I went to real medical professionals and learned how to eat a balanced diet and get mental healthcare to work out my issues." Isn’t one of the first rules of recovery not restricting? Like you have to learn how to have a better relationship with food and you can’t do that by heavily restricting what you eat. Raw foodism and fruitarianism and even veganism & vegetarianism for some are restrictive diets that people choose only to lose weight, which isn’t a healthy reason to try those diets/lifestyles.

They also have chat and phone therapy now which might make it easier to find one if you have issues getting to the clinic and they're usually cheaper than in office therapy. @@Psychwriteify Honestly it takes tons of experimenting! If this means not going fully vegan just yet that is fine! As long as its your goal, that is what counts. I would start with finding 3 or 4 meals that are cheap, easy to make, and don't bother your stomach. Find a few for each time of the day, then try to incorporate these throughout the week with varying amounts of problem foods. I follow a fairly low fodmap diet, but I am not super strict on things like sauce, mainly garlic and onion, because those don't bother me as much. On the other hand, If I were to have a can of beans I would have a major IBS flare up. Just gotta be careful and find what works for you!

Google FODMAPS, you will find the answers to your mystery gut pain there. It has to do with every food's natural sugar, some of which are very hard to digest and can cause pain, bloating, gas, and other things. Good luck.

There was a post on social media going around a few years ago that compared body builder with anorexia....which if you replaced body weight with body fat in the definition of anorexia it's a definition of a competitive bodybuilder

@Burnt Orange I hope you see this because I cant reply directly to you for some reason... you say "Wellll...but one is a mental disorder, the other is a proffession. From what I heard (I don't know a lot about body building), body builders only starve themselves before shows, not permanently. I think it's a bit weird to compare the two tbh. "... The point of the comparison is to point out that body building (especially competitive) has a problem with eating disorders, leading up to shows they hyper restrict everything including water and after they binge and some purge. Along that same lines many female body builders are so low in body fat (to get the physic that they want) they don't have periods … if you want to learn more I would suggest looking at Stephanie Buttermore and her video "I lost my period: why its unhealthy..." she is incredibly fit and healthy looking but unhealthy....I hope this explains why there is a comparison between the two.

I am glad this girl is making the choices that are right for her in her recovery and support her in that. I also for sure agree about holding ourselves and others accountable. I used to follow people like Freelee/FullyRawKristina & an online cult leader (teal swan 🤮) and I am deeply ashamed of promoting their content online as well as parroting their dangerous beliefs in real life. Even as someone who doesn’t have a platform, when I finally came out from under the spell of these influencers I went through and deleted all mention of them/their dangerous advice. I felt so ashamed & worried people may have listened to me. So I posted publicly about how dangerous following this advice was/how I never should have done it & it definitely eased my conscience. And I apologized privately to everyone in my life who I directly impacted & influenced their involvement in those same worlds. It’s embarrassing to directly own up to things so I can understand why influencers with huge platforms might feel too ashamed or embarrassed to do so. But they still need to! We are all human and all make mistakes and I respect people who own up to them. It’s possible to still say “that was my journey and I’m not ashamed” like so many youtubers do, while also still saying “I don’t condone my past actions though & I’m doing xyz to make up for it”

"If you're just gonna be dismissive, don't respond" I feel like if way more vegans took this method, people would take veganism SO much more seriously. It's sad but in today's world the burden of proof for choosing veganism still lies with vegans, and if your attitude towards people who don't agree is dismissal and rudeness and not engagement in discussion to show why those ideas are wrong, it's a surefire way of keeping people far away from thinking of veganism as something that good and rational people do. The most ironic thing is that veganism IS what good and rational people do so...... it really doesn't require that much effort, the case is basically made for us and the decision is up to others at that point. A little patience and critical engagement goes a long way, but so does being a jerk about it to people, in the wrong way. Pick your weapon :)

You can definitely do it. It is just much more difficult. Remember, humans did not have fire for a large part of their existence. You can eat green peas raw and you can soak steel cut oats and eat them raw. Many green leafy vegetables have a lot of protein per calorie. Sprouted grains contain protein. Even fruit adds some protein, and it all adds up.

A comment on the intuitive eating. It was recommended to me by my nutritionist. And we worked through it together. My main thing is about hunger and fullness cues. With intuitive eating the main thing is learning the difference between physical and emotional hunger cues. Am I physically or emotionally hungry or full. I often am so “full” of emotions I’m not hungry, or I’m afraid I’ll get sick if I eat one more bite. But that’s not physical reality. Intuitive eating is recommended for someone who is well into recovery. Who has already learned the difference between emotional and physical hunger/fullness cues.

Pelvic floor physical therapist here, I have not dived into research for the effects of heavy lifting (also the term heavy would need to be quantified and individualized per person depending on their body). But I would only have concerns if the person is holding their breath and trying to achieve stability through their core by filling it with air rather than engaging the muscles. A lot of people breath hold and that is a lot of intra-abdominal pressure downwards on the pelvic floor. There can be obviously a lot more to it but that would be my first concern with heavy lifting is that people would be lifting more than they should and using compensatory methods to do so.

I'm sure some of these ideas you're suggesting (e.g. the compilation of growth instead of keeping up and monetising misleading videos) are things she perhaps hasn't thought of - either way, I really hope she can be open to these ideas and find peace in further growth, and move on with a better life. :) Also - perhaps if she didn't want to go to the effort of making a compilation, she could still rename those old videos as *OLD, BAD ADVICE, demonetised, just keeping up to show my growth* and maybe put something in the descriptions about why she no longer agrees with this advice. Although maybe that's more effort at that point :P

With a few exceptions, I’ve noticed that vegans that quit are usually following some specific diet and are emphasising weight loss. Seems the key to staying vegan and not have problems is to just eat a balanced diet but without the animal products. The vegans I see on KZfaq and that I know in real life that have been vegans for 5+ years just eat anything they want that isn’t animal products and they have no problems.

First of all, they are all rich in fibre. Secondly, they contain either soy or wheat gluten. For me exercise is a little about controlling how I feel about my body because I feel like I'm being more productive with it (which is dumb, my job is being on my feet for hours), but it's also such a huge endorphin rush for me, and a pain management tool. I feel proud about how strong my body feels since I'm fitter than I've been in years, and I also just feel a reprieve from the depression cloud for like an hour or two after if it's a really bad day. Also chronic pain from anxiety... mostly I do yoga and it helps immensely to manage it, along with medication and therapy. Having been addicted to exercise it's something I'm careful about, but I still think it's a valuable part of my life. Finding a balance is freaking weird because society tells you that you're better if you do it. Tired rant/self explanation to the ether over. Your videos bring me peace.

This seems to be the trend with these young children looking for some kind of justification to their lives. Everyone goes through it whether they are vegan or not, people want to fit in. They also quit one addiction and move to another. Same happens with drug addicts, alcoholics or smokers, they quit their one vice and then move to some other one. Whether that is AA meetings, religion or some other vice. They have addictive personalities. It seems that Eating Disorder people tend to move to body building to feed their addiction because they get to still control their bodies but now people praise them for it instead of chastise them.

But I will say that she doesn’t treat it like the cure. She doesn’t say this is what will fix you, but that it’s a part her recovery that really helped her, ON TOP OF professional medical help and I don’t think she really recommends IE until you’re farther along in your recovery. It feels like a good way of eating for someone who is afraid that they might relapse in their recovery

Re: your take on the intuitive eating book, I wonder if the heavily-implied-but-not-outright-stated eating disordered 'examples' are intentional, to appeal to people who do have seriously disordered eating but who might not recognise/accept that about themselves. If the book promoted itself as being for people with eating disorders, a hell of a lot of people with EDs wouldn't even consider its advice. People who are actively in recovering probably would, but the 'Kathy is an anxious dieter, she (binges until she feels sick and then hates herself), and intuitive eating can help her stop feeling guilty' perspective might make it more accessible to people who don't recognise the level or severity of their food/body issues. I've not read the book and don't know the authors, so this may be entirely too charitible, but that was my thought as you described the attitude it's written with.

I believe people can only hold up their self-righteousness in some areas for so long in life before they collapse in on them. A lot of these 'no-longer vegan' videos seem to come from people who were not only a) extremely underweight b) had extreme vegan diets which excluded major food groups but c) quite self-righteous attitudes towards veganism. This triad of personality traits seems to self-implode after a few years and, before long, they need to invert their self-righteous attitudes in a different direction (usually anti-veganism or some other extreme investment such as carnivore diet, bodybuilding, mukbanging, extensive plastic surgery etc). But people who don't fall into all three triads seem to find some balance in life which helps them maintain their veganism journey. Like Kateflowers, to me, is underweight, and does, by most standards, have an extreme vegan diet (mainly raw) - but she has a very good soul, she doesn't come across as judgemental or dismissive of non-vegans. She's conscious of her influence and demonstrates that by creating nutritionally balanced vegan meals and shows a lot of empathy for those struggling (something which a lot of former ex-vegan lacked). I'd be really interested to hear about the anorexia-bodybuilding connection. I'm a former anorexic who really enjoys weight training, but I am by no means a bodybuilder (I wouldn't count macros or anything like that). I'd love to hear about the possible connection though!

@Burnt Orange Miyoko's butter for me has been amazing for baking, Earth Balance works well too, and I'll usually substitute soy milk instead of regular milk. You should also check out some of Pick Up Limes' baking videos for ideas if you haven't yet. Keep it up:)

I love UV! She's a logical vegan who promotes a healthy vegan diet that's both ethical and sustainable. I wish more vegan channels were like hers, because too many are too extreme (like the raw foods ones) and they set people up to fail.

As long as there’s a group of people eating raw diets or extremist diets in any way, there will be definitely videos like this to come.

I agree with everything you're saying but I think it's important to note that there are a lot of studies on how exercising can improve mental health

Haven't watched the original Intuitive Eating video yet, but I know a LOT of people (myself included) who were bingeing as a response to their dieting but didn't have a full ED. Almost everyone I've spoken to about dieting in that way has offhandedly mentioned bingeing at least once. (Not necessarily using that language, but describing eating behaviors that would be recognizable to someone who thinks a lot about that.) These are just anecdotes, of course, but they do point to something that I believe--which is that bingeing is a *very* common response to restriction. I don't think it's just people with EDs who struggle with it--and recognizing it as a sign that there is too much restriction can be so helpful in putting someone on the path to recovery.

Also, i just wanted to say how awesome your channel is. While i’m not vegan, since any kind of restrictions or elimination of certain foods is super triggering for me and makes me fall back into disordered eating, hearing a logical analysis and breakdown of things, in a compassionate way and using actual facts to back it up, is really refreshing and i’m eating healthier, which just happens to include more vegan foods and dishes, and as a result i feel better and get triggered less 😊

Trisha Paytas- DON'T EAT THE ANIMALS Monologue Hey, world. One world. Can we stop eating animals world? Yeah, we use metal straws instead of plastic straws for the turtles, but you saw that the turtles still survive. So let’s stop easting animals in this world. One world. We are the world that the animals hear. We’re in the world. We’re the world. Where God starts his world. The animals started the world with God. So, let’s stop eating the animals. Animals have feelings just like you and me, and yes, I am an animal, but I am a mammal with a voice to speak. Who speaks for the chickens, for the dogs, for the cats, for the cows? We milk, and we milk, and we milk and they say “ooowww! That’s my utter”. *sighs* So hey world, mammals of the world, let’s stop eating animals of the world. *inhale* Yeah PETA is extreme but they are doing a mission. Nothing’s as it seems- and this is my own emission. I used to eat the animals! Until one day, in a dream, yes I took a dream in the middle of the day, some call it a nap. *exhales* I saw what they do to these animals. To the baby chicks. “Chirp!” “Chirp!” “Chirp!” *whispering* To the baby dogs. “Arf!” “Arf!” “Arf!” *sniffle* To the baby filet mignons. “Ugh!” “Ugh!” “Ugh!” *sighs* So we’ve all decided to save the turtles one metal straw at a time, and I agree that it’s great, but this rhyme is so much more than that. If we’d stop eating animals we’d stop being fat! America is fat! I am fat! *ghasps* Okay world. One world. We’re on a mission to save the world. Look. Don’t eat the thighs *slaps thigh* they make us rise, they help the animals rise, rise, rise! *sighs* Don’t eat, the breast. *takes off shirt* For that’s the rest of the song. It ends with the breast. *grabs boobs* Would you eat this? Would you feast on this? *inhales* If I wasn’t a mammal but just another animal you would feast on this. Does this rib taste good? *grabs side* Does this rib taste good? *sighs* What about the feet? We eat the chicken feet. And not just the Dominican republican, we eat the chicken feat in the U.S.A. *wheezes* and I say these animals don’t have a voices, so this is my choices. *inhales* To tell you stop eating animals, so that they can’t survive. While I’m alive I wanna see the animals thrive. *aggressively takes deep breaths* Ow world. One world. *exhales* *inhales* *whispering* theres hope. *pause* and there’s some judgment. *sighs* *sighs* *sighs again* *singing whilst holding pig stuffed animal* Rock aby Piggy in the treetop. When you die . . . we can sue you, and eat you through bacon. Which leads to heart disease. Which leads to heart attack. Which leads to death. *drops pig stuffed animal* *ghasps* *tightly holding onto pig stuffed animal* I don’t want your death. I don’t want my death. Don’t. Eat. *whispering* the animals. *breathing*

I've got a history of disordered eating and yeah, going from anorexia to bodybuilding seems a lot like clinging to the comfort of still getting to obsess about your body. I obviously can't see into her heart, maybe she's mentally super healthy, it's possible, but so much of the anorexic experience is about obsessing about one thing literally every minute of every day, and the notion that if you tie your self worth to a singular attribute and you just improve that, you'll eventually get to feel good about yourself. Bodybuilding is definitely physically healthier than starving oneself, but whether she's mentally much healthier, I kind of doubt.

I’m a vegan with a severe peanut and soy allergy and I can confirm it is ROUGH but as you say it is possible. For me ultimately my compassion for another beings and the planet will always trump my dietary inconvenience. I get so frustrated and sad seeing all these people who advocated vegan diets and brought me into this world turning their backs on it . Rawtill4 has a lot to answer for 🤦🏼‍♀️ Another interesting and insightful video 👌🏻
