You got it going on. First loads are always a big learning curve. I never take my straps off my winches but you live up in the cold weather. And no matter what you haul always put two straps within the first 4ft of your load. People may think im crazy for that but its in the green book and it has saved me from having my load in thr bunk for having to slam on brakes.

James, there’s a lot of good suggestions in here. But I ain’t gonna stand up on the soapbox and tell you how to do things because I ain’t never pulled a flatbed. Looks like you did most of everything pretty much right just make sure that shit is secure and not gonna fall off on anybody. Awesome brother be safe out there.👍👍👍

Since you don’t have a headache rack, “X” two strap on the first two skids, cause if you have to stop short or an accident you won’t have bag’s flying through the back of your sleeper. Love your page follow you all the time, keep up the good work. Marvin

Okay so first tip bro, when you putting on or taking off straps, to save yourself so much bending, just tuck your cheater bar in between the pallets or whatever you taking the straps off of. Too much bending will be extra unnecessary wear and tear on your back. Also when you roll up your straps, make sure your hooks are facing out. Then you can just hook ‘em, and throw em over whatever you loading up. It just makes the next use of them much easier, faster and more time efficient. Other than those two things, which are minor, you did awesome! With repetition, it’ll become second nature. Strapping is easy. It’s tarping and chaining that’s a bitch.😂 Love the video. And the truck… pulling a skateboard!🤙🏾🤌🏾💪🏾

James, I heard this saying once from the old timer. Make your load become one with the trailer cut to make sense to me that way nothing goes awry. probably easier said than done, but I think that’s the goal and flatbed Ing. The load becomes one with a trailer.👍👍👍

Your doing fine. 45+ years flat work. Something new all the time. Strap cranker nice too put straps away but flip it up so you dont get your knuckles… if you get your own make it fit a pocket. Sometimes you have to strap outside of rail. Ask 10 dot guys you’ll get 10 answers. Good practice not too…. But aint supposed to break the speed limit or load 60k on the deck legal either 🤣😎. Becareful next week they dont get yah…. Good video!

You’re doing a good job and I you’ll get better. Referring to the other comment about two straps in the front, a lot of states wants two in the back also. I’m from South Carolina and that’s their law. 🚛🚛

@@JLR3Truckinyea not sure how much experience you already have with flatbeds but just in case for future reference, is always two in the first 5 feet of the load and like he said some states want also two in the back so I always did it just in case. And not sure if you’re aware but just in case you ever do loads like lumber or metal, metal loads requires straps every 4 feet and if it’s a multiple tiered load obviously belly strap same for lumber. If it’s lumber if it’s 8 ft or less requires 2, 8-16 ft requires 3 and 16 ft or more 4, it’s also good too put and extra piece of dunnage at the front and the back to raise it at an angle to prevent pieces from coming out. All others types of loads bedsides those kind of loads you’re doing obviously, 1 strap every 8 ft. Lumber and steel is a good practice to put an X-strap/X-chain the front. And chains that’s a whole other story depends on the weight of the load. Take the total amount of the weight divide it by two add the result to the original total amount and then is one chain for every 10,000 lbs, one 4” strap for every 8,000 lbs and one 2” strap for every 4,000 lbs Hope the information was helpful in case you didn’t already knew it or for anyone starting on flatbed or thinking about it. Also the above information is TMC standards which always meet DOT weights requirements and most of the times even exceed it.

One than one way 2 do load securement. Jst remember 2 straps on front & 2 on rear than no matter how wide straps are or rating then single straps on the remainder of load. Chained load securement is DEFINITELY different on size of chains but ALWAYZ Gr8 to X pattern chains on front & rear on the wagon

When strapping up your load if your flatbed or the truck have a headache rack you need to had an extra strap to the front pallet and should have two on the last pallet also. DOT calls it “no headache rack penalty” with that being said it doesn’t count towards the hold down weight requirement. You would need to use however many straps are required for the weight/distance apart. And the penalty just simply adds one more strap/tie down to the front and back

I didn’t see anything. Only thing I will say is if you start doing it more you might want a bar that has a bend. They’ve helped me in the tighter spots. But if you really start liking it you might wanna look into hauling I beams like trucking for race cars especially since your truck is stretched. Throwing chains feels like less work to me. Everyone has their own niche tho 🤷🏾‍♂️

If you do it though get some great quality Snap binders. To me they’re more efficient than ratchet binders. You just get a good bite and pull vs ratcheting
