Only old parts of India are hectic….majority of Indians avoid such places but for some reason it’s very popular foreign tourists.

Actually foreigners have some obsession with paharganj and old Delhi area .. central and south Delhi is where maximum people educated ones hang out

@@akshitdadhwal Backpackers looking for a safe space go to Paharganj. Tourists generally want to see the sights and experience the old parts of town rather than sanitised "Western-type" areas that are similar to home.

Actually Uber drivers don't get to know the drop location so they usually call up to ask (ideally they shouldn't) the destination before accepting the trip to avoid busy or remote areas where they won't find a return ride or spend hours in traffic. In such cases it's usually a loss for them burning extra fuel so they avoid accepting such trips. It's a known issue and Uber is trying to find a way around it by perhaps by compensating drivers for such trips. Another reason why they might call is to know whether the payment will be in cash or digital. Some prefer upfront cash.

Uber works in Delhi.. but there's strike going on due to fuel prices hike... You could have taken metro directly from New Delhi metro station to Hauzkhas.. it takes less than $1, faster and air conditioned transport... Could easily save you some bucks and hustle of getting an uber

Great crawl.. loving these smaller quieter areas they have as much to offer as the busiest cities obviously there is flower to be found and smoked. I know they have bhang available during religious festivals and that hoegarden looked good!

I just moved to Delhi three weeks ago . I am an American and visited hous khas in the evening... It was a great place to hangout have a few beer...... A place called gypsy cafe drew my liking a lot

wow 6 weeks went so fast....im sad you are leaving....i certainly recommend Bodh Gaya which seemed more on the level of village/small town and was full of Tibetan monks at the Mahabodhi temple. I doubt there is another place like it in India. I also totally love Amritsar and the Golden temple. I spent many hours there and washed the dishes every day and it's incredibly good for the soul to see how the Sikhs can feed up to 100,000 people for free every day in the Gurdwara. They run the whole operation with a military precision and it's a marvel to behold. Good luck on your next adventure. I guess you are there already and maybe missing the curry.

There are many places like Bodh gaya like Nalanda, Sarnath, Rajgir etc. There is also Tibetan Buddhism in India in places like Sikkim, Ladakh, Tawang. Tawang has the 2nd largest Buddhist monastery in the world.

Excellent North India series! For future India travels might like to check ''Dev Darshan Express' which is a new train launched covering the four Dham's along with other places, all inclusive tour of 16 days costs circa $1000.00 two restaurants along with many other facilities of a luxury hotel inside a train.

Thank You for your excellent North India videos, really enjoyed them and learned a lot, also for answering all my questions. (Also thanks to all people in the comments, who answered my questions) Hope you're visiting Sri Lanka now and wish you an awesome time there! Visited the county in a short trip in autumn 2019 and really enjoyed it and hopeing to return one day. Just visited Sigirya, Kandy, Ella and Colombo and planning to explore more in the future.

Unfortunately they're going through tough times right now, not good for tourists to visit. Riots, power cuts, burning down homes of politicians, the prime minister resigned, etc. Hopefully they get it all sorted fairly soon so it's safe to visit again, because I'd love to see it.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos Hopeing the same. Saw a few Sri Lanka travel videos based on KZfaq suggestions in the last weeks and was first thinking, why they are visiting now and if it's safe to do so. I now understand that some people want to do that now, to help the tourism industry and outside of the capital there are no violent protests. But I totally understand that you want to wait for a better time, especially as a full time traveler. If I would visit now, I would just use public transport, to not take the taxi and fuel of a local who might not be able to pay the price that I'm able to pay.

Its not what Gab thought...It is a student hangout area.Hauz Khas has India's premier technical institute IIT campus and thats why you see so many students hanging around. I dont know who gave this idea to Gab. Gabriel best friend Karl Rock:) [who thinks every Indian is a scammer] made a video about nicer side of Delhi. He could have consulted him.

@@truthteller2991 Thanks, I hear you---our next long trip will be a fly-into Kolkata, buy a new bike--drive north to Darjeeling and Sikkim, maybe more NEIndia--then over to Nepal---then over to Kashmir. Picking out the best&beautiful weather times, leaving the bike in storage--fly back and forth from Bali, our surfing homeland. ~~Gabriel is a Legend~~

I guess Uber updates their time to be taken for pick up based on evolving traffic congestion scenario and that is how duration of wait jumped. Or if the Uber cab is to arrive from opposite flank, the embedded Google map service does not recognize the absence of scope for a U turn (due to presence of flank divider) and the cab has to take a longer route for U turn to arrive at the pick up point which is how the duration of wait can also jump.

UBER service is deteriorating in India now a days. Recently had lots of experience where the uber simply will not show up after booking and I have to pay that 20rs cancellation fee for no reason. I am starting to wonder if that is some sort of scam.

Go to your trips sections in the app and under your canceled trip select 'Driver didn't show up/ Driver asked to cancel'. It will automatically refund your cancelation fee

I had a similar experience in 2006 flying out of Delhi and during that time Delhi had separate domestic and international airports. Of course it was my fault to some extent. My luggage was already checked through to its final US destination from Kolkata but I thought I had to reclaim it in Delhi. Barely made it on time to the international terminal after catching a cab.But fortunately now both the domestic and internarional airports are in the same location in Delhi...and yes Hauz Khas ...one om my mother's friends used to live there and visited it in 1974 when I was 16 years of age ....nice to see it again ...that same lake...

My experience with Uber in India was similar. The driver never showed up and eventually we got a small charge for supposedly not being at the pickup point. Ola, on the other hand, worked flawlessly. (Ola is the Indian version of Uber.)

I remember the old days when you had to beg taxi or rikshaw drivers in Delhi to take you. Uber/ola changed that for a time but now they are trying the same tricks. It looks like corporate honchos of the said apps are not interested in straightening them out either.

both uber and ola work great but sometimes you have bad days. i had 4 declines on uber and ola yesterday i was trying to book a rental for 4 hour. they tend to cancel rides if the drive is longer than they wanna go. eventually, i found one ride and I had to convince him it will only be 2 hours only

No uber for me in India... in Amsterdam they canceled last moment on me when I was trying to get to the airport. There's a $40 flat rate the taxis offer to the airport I actually got lucky hotel owner called somebody (taxi) they knew and I got there in time... scary.

You could have used the Delhi metro from Paharganj to Hauz Khas. Would have cost you little less than a dollar.

metro is the cheapest and quickest way to get around in dehli particularly for far distances unless ofcourse if u want to experience the city vehicular traffic and spot viewing etc

As a Delhi resident, I have only been twice in my whole life out of 50 years to Paharganj. I do not why every foreigners goes to Paharganj. May be because of cheap hotels. Even Delhiites rarely go there. It is too crowded. They show Paharganj and then extrapolate it to whole Delhi.

Cheap hotels, it's right next to the train station, lots of restaurants and shops, fellow travelers are there and it's super vibrant and interesting. Having been to other parts of Delhi I find that Paharganj is still the best place to stay as a traveler.

Having been born and raised in Delhi I went to Paharganj 500 times for cheap drinks and opportunity to meet world travelers. Although not always a great experience.

My personal review and thoughts about Gab recent visit : 1)He could have traveled in a comfortable by hiring car [or in some cases rented car ] . So many Indian travel comfortably to places he visited. But may be Gab wants challenges and thats why he chose to hop on daily commuters and shared taxis which are usually used by local village/town commuters between nearby towns. But this resulted in wastage of time and as a result he was exhausted. India has changed a lot and there are various options to travel. You can watch so many videos of Indians taking car and going to Chopta comfortable. Trains are also good option and there are several tourist trains at IRCTC tourism website which could have been used for some tours .Off course it requires a bit planning and I think Gab just planned this in a hurry.Viewers also want to see Indian trains .But atleast a sleeper class [General is not used for long journey] 2)At little but of planning would have helped 3)Although viewers enjoy challenges but it becomes boring after a while. Same old story of struggle when we know it can be traveled comfortably. 4)I guess if he concentrates on commentary of places he visit[he is good orator] that will be nicer. 5)Because of above he lost so much time and I was hoping he could do a north east I think next time Gab would plan and travel comfortably so that we can have more contenet rather than these "struggling" videos.May be next time he can hire a taxi for multiple places which is more cost effective and less stressful.

@@nikhilkay1 I dont think it was cheap for him considering hassles. For example he paid RS 3300 [I think] to reach Chopta which was not even private as he rented from small town which they wont follow strict rules. I have not taken tour of Uttarakhand but I got to see another Indian blogger visa2explore " EP 1 Haridwar to Yamunotri Dham Via Mussoorie | Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra" and he gives detailed cost breakdown including hotel stay and according to him he had hired car for Rs 4500 per day which was fair .For example(this is just suggestion): I think, he could have straight gone to Haridwar by bus or train which is a big city in Uttrakhand and from there he could have rented from a proper car rental agency and he could have avoided staying in small towns and shitty hotels. visa2explore gives pretty good detailed cost breakdown and is not on expensive range but affordable. In the end, you dont have to be burned out and enjoy travel .

Its simply what he does, he moves around a lot. He rarely stays in one city or country for 2 or more months. I think he doesnt do monthly stays/rents. Other travel content creators stay longer in one place. William Taudiem stayed in Mexico for 2 years. While other content creators such as Jonna Jinton who also is from Sweden rarely move at all

Can you elaborate on how easy/hard it is to find accomodation that accepts foreigners each night as you move around India? Do you need to book ahead? Can you just show up at a guest house? Do you negotiate prices?

All accommodation in India accepts foreigners. You can just show up or book in advance online. I use booking.com a lot. Finding a place to stay in India is pretty easy, though the quality is highly variable.

Always enjoy all of your videos, you're the best in the business. I keep hoping to see you visit the Philippines, my wife is from there and her family is still there, she visits from time to time and will be there the month of July. She is from Bay Bay Leyte. Would be awesome to see videos from any part of the Philippines. I watch Tim K who is living in the southern part of Leyte and I watch Kalas from "Becoming Filipino "

Would've been interesting had you visited Qutub Minar Complex given your understanding of architecture. The Mosque there was constructed using the remains of 27 demolished Hindu and Jain temples. It was also the first mosque constructed in Delhi. So on first glance it'd instantly remind you of the temples you saw in Madhya Pradesh. 😅 the first time I visited the place I was so confused till I read the info board.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos most amazing thing to see in Qutb minar complex is Iron pillar of Delhi which is 1600 years old iron pillar still standing without corrosion, it represents advance metallurgy knowledge of ancient India and there is inscription on that pillar of Emperor Chandragupta of Gupta empire, he is considered as one of greatest emperor. Why you don't visit Ajanta caves , Elephanta caves , Barabar caves , Ellora caves? You should visit Nalanda University ruins , step well And Maru Gurjar style architecture of gujrat

It is interesting to me that as Hindu nationalistic propaganda spreads, more and more of the great Muslim-built and Mughal-built monuments are supposedly built from the ruins of Hindu temples, or on the site of Hindu temples, or some other BS that is intended to make Muslims look bad or allow Hindus to take some credit for them. Most of these claims are easily discredited due to the contemporary accounts written by foreign visitors and diplomats who documented the construction. That said, it is equally true that local Hindu craftsmen were renowned for their skill and deserve credit for the construction of many of these monuments, even if the designs were Islamic in origin. Indian craftsmen were so revered that they were typically part of the plunder that accompanied foreign invaders when they left India.

@@timothylinn 'supposedly built from temple ruins'. Dude these are UNESCO heritage sites. I mean, it's literally inscribed on the walls of the Mosque how it was built by demolishing temples,incase you didn't know. Pretty sure you aren't aware of Indian history. Would suggest reading up a bit:)

I've used it a few times in the past. I remember taking it from the airport into the city sometime years ago. Also I took it to the Akshardham temple. That might have been in 2010.

Not difficult at all , It depends on which city you visit. You can even find Alcohol in Rishikesh as well.

So where are you going next? What will be your 81st country? What countries could you get to from Delhi that you wouldn't have been to before? Maldives? Seychelles? Mauritius? Didn't you say that you were going to SE Asia? If so, Vietnam? Cambodia? Laos? Or are you heading north to Central Asia? To Africa? Can't wait to find out.

He has not been to Russia. Mark from Wolters World has been to Russia and has some videos from there. Mark also went to Rwanda and Tanzania in Africa and had some good things to say about those places. Gabriel has not been there in Africa

@@goostrey4210 there are english speaking countries to which Gabriel hasnt been, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand... Mark from Wolters World lived in Australia when he was a student but doesnt have videos from there because at that time he was not making videos for Wolters World

@@dreamthedream8929 Yes... but I don't think that Gabriel and Mark Wolters are trying to do the same thing at all. Wolters does useful tourist information in his inimitable enthusiastic style; Gabriel is a much more laid back, a traveler focused on the experience of his own travels. They each have a place: I watch Wolters for places I am going; I watch Gabe to simply enjoy the ways he enjoys the world. I travel like Gabe, not Wolters, and Gabe's videos help me get through the pandemic in a way that Wolters' don't.

@@goostrey4210 yes sure their content styles are different and a different way of traveling as well, i think Mark often travels with his family or friends. I simply said there are such country options that perhaps Gabriel may consider and that Mark has videos on that and that he doesnt have any from Australia as that was before his youtube channel time. For people that speak English Australia would seem like a good and obvious choice. Mark is also a spanish speaker which makes his travels in latin america easier, he seems to like Argentina a lot where he studied spanish, im waiting on his colombian videos where i am right now, i read that he likes and recommends cartagena, thats where i live right now
