@@freidenker2918 I’am confused, what do you mean that there is “no such thing as sin”? The Bible talks about sin all the time, sin is the bad things that all humans do, which go against God’s good and holy way/law/grace.

@@Knighty-hr2dw I think there is confusion over your first line. "Lord, help us when we feel tempted to choose you over sin" I think it becomes clear if you add a comma. "Lord, help us when we feel tempted, to choose you over sin". I think they are pointing out that feeling tempted to choose God over sin is nonsensical. But that clearly isn't what you meant.

@@Knighty-hr2dw It doesn't really matter what the bible says. The bible is a book of plagiarized legends, invented and distorted history, total scientific nonsense (did Joshua really stop the earth from rotating?), story of the most heinous god in all of mythology - he smites and destroys innocent people on a whim for no good reason, etc etc Oh also gospels written a century after Jesus supposedly lived, to propagate specific theological views, etc

Here are a couple other verses that people always seem to take out of context: 1) "I can do all things through him who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). The context of this verse is contentment. Through Christ we CAN be content in ALL circumstances. 2) "He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it" (1 Thessalonians 5:24). The context of this verse is our sanctification. God will sanctify. 3) "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God" (Romans 8:14). Led by the Spirit to do what? The context is mortifying the flesh. So if you are led by the Spirit of God to mortify the flesh than you are the sons of God. So many times I have seen these verses misused by people completely void of their context.

@Mikizushi

I always wondered how do we determine what God “intended”? The idea in my experience has been used to I guess put blame on someone for not doing this or that, as if things would be assured to happen differently (typically a more favorable outcome) if x person hadn’t done what they did, but instead, if they had done this other thing over here. Which again isn’t guaranteed as much as it’s not guaranteed that even if we don’t do right that things will turn out poorly (at least for very long). I know how it’s used doesn’t change what it actually means, but that’s more or less what I’m asking about and trying to understand

I've heard people quote this scripture to people who are in really difficult seasons if their lives, and it can be interpreted the wrong way. I think part of the issue is the ambiguity of what people mean by "more than you can handle." What does not handling a situation look like? What are we talking about a person in such a situation doing? Being sad or stressed? Withdrawing from friends and family? Breaking the law? Abandoning God? Suicide? It can be useful to draw out what a person means by "not handling it," because what they're envisioning might, or might not, include giving into sinful temptations.

It’s understandably a hard verse to ponder. Most of the time we feel what we have on our plate is too much to handle, yet we survive. We often sin, not because we don’t have an out, but because we react too quickly to think and ponder the consequence of our decision. Sin is so natural to us that we forget to even fight against it, or consider a way out of it. If we are honest with ourselves (I’m sure I’m not the only one) many times that way of escape crosses our minds, but the temptation quickly snuffs out the reasoning. Sanctification surely comes with experience and practice which is why we must confess our failure constantly to God.

Thank you for waking me up i. My sin nature. I don’t always listen to God, but when I do and I find I am sinning, I walk away or bite my lip or close my computer. Then it seems its been making me even stronger when I do that. I use to feel there is no way I will see the kingdom of God with my Sins even though I love Christ. Then realized that yes I believe Jesus is my savor. Also realize that the Bible is my map book to know Gods will for my life to stay on his path, that will help me and be strong from my sins to help others. Thank you and God bless to help me realize: Yes I am saved and God has me in mind with his word, so I don’t loose my ability to walk away from him.

Amen. Every time I have fallen was because of me choosing to sow to the flesh instead of the Spirit - even if that decision happened in a split second. There can never be a single excuse and the corruption of my relationship with God has ALWAYS been though choice and NEVER because God allowed me to be tempted beyond my means of escape. As Sarah says in these comments, may we increasingly live through this life with lenses fixed on Jesus and eternity as opposed to anybody or anything else.

Also, there's a difference between what a person is willing to endure, and what a person is actually able to endure. For example, sometimes when we exercise and they're doing repetitions, we can sometimes say the words "I can't do anymore", and the coach or trainer is pushing the person to go further. The truth is, the person actually can do more, but may not be willing to do more. There's a difference between what our perceived limitation is, and our actual limitation. Sometimes when we really can't go any further and are truly out of strength, that's when God's strength rises in us.

He will give us more than we can handle, and when we make the right choice, to submit to Him, not give in our temptation, having a sinful attitude and giving up, He will give us Power to handle whatever that is. Or wisdom to flee, if it’s a sexual sin. Sometimes we pick the wrong battles and expect God to “help us handle it”, when God wants us to let go of something and don’t even bother getting close to them.

So glad you addressed this. This is a common misconception from the bible.

God will absolutely give you more than you can handle, so that you become more reliant on Him who can handle all things. It's a really cool concept, and makes me thankful to be known and loved by Him

If you're a believer and have a relationship with God and you're saved. That's the context, I think. If you're unsaved, not prayerful, or in opposition, you can drug yourself or be in a state that you have lost it. Your decision faculties have to be accessible to you. If we are lost, we may stay that way.

Even Kind David lost his son. Everyone will suffer hard times, trust in God and be resilient.

It's a big book. We do the things of God because we have faith in them. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Understanding (faith), comes easy to the prudent. Those who cry out for help.

According to the bible Adam and Eve "gave into temptation", even though they had no idea what 'sin' was.

God doesn’t GIVE you more than you can handle… LIFE will give you more. That’s why we need Jesus.
