Pandit-ji centenary is this year!
This has to be THE frankest Rendezvous ever! Pandit-ji and Sukanya opened their hearts wide - to let me & my viewers inside. There are very few love stories that like this one. I did my research, as I always do; I asked all the questions - but they both gave me back much more in return. Anushka was sitting in the control room during the interview. She was hearing their full story for the first time - and was in tears. When the interview was over, she ran to her parents and hugged them both tight, crying and laughing, and kept saying: ‘I never knew all this Ma..I never knew’.. For those who missed it - it’s here for all to see..and feel..

A love story of redemption . What a honest interview. It takes a lot of courage and resolve to admit ones short comings. By admitting these things we take them from the dark into the light. Both Husband & Wife share the pain & glory of this journey we call life. Thank you for this documentary. I have close friends who know Raviji & Family all very lovely people 🙏🏿

I would like to thank this show for bringing out the original life stories .....However I seriously can feel the pain his partners have gone through !! This cant be accepted , how can someone respect her husband if that person gives attention not only to her but to other women aswell !! Love is divine & eternal & pure .....& all i can say is for Ravi Shankar ji ..... Sukanya ji became his resting place in Old Age !!

His soul mate was his first wife, Annapurna Devi (daughter of maestro Allauddin Khan Saheb). She was an equally gifted musical genius; her instrument being Surbahar. In the early years, they performed together. He cheated on her. She ended their marriage and he ended her career as she vowed never to give a public performance. However she continued to reach for free.

One has to live life with morals, integrity, strength of character,dignity and religious value.Fame, money, talent cannot make one happy if one has hurt multiple people, destroyed their identities, wounded their dignity,committed adultery multiple times without thinking about others. That is why Sukanya says she feels bad(guilty) for Ravi Shankars first wife.how could they be happy in their lives living with the guilt of damaging, hurting others for life. Smiling before the camera, with good clothes and make up carries no meaning ,it's all fake, deep down they are unhappy, miserable souls .the fact that she could share Ravi with others proves she has no feelings,and no love for him and for herself, marriage of some kind of convenience
@ullysim6273
@ullysim6273 Жыл бұрын
LOL, actually Sukanya said that she felt guilty to his longtime lover Kamala. She wasn't even his WIFE! His wife was Annapurna Devi who was a great musician and a SAINT. Ravi Shankar cheated on Annapurna Devi his wife with the dancer Kamala in the first few years of their marriage. Annapurna Devi was only 13 when married and 14 years old when she gave birth to their son. She was a great musician, better than him by far. Her father's true heir. When she learnt of the affair she stopped physical relationship with him, and left. Later she returned but their relationship was finished, as he was a serial womaniser of the worst kind. He not only slept with Kamala he slept with countless women all over the world at the same time. Kamala finally got tired on Ravi Shankar's nonsense when Sue Jones and then Sukanya got pregnant, and she ended their relationship around in 1981. Also, in 1981, Annapurna Devi divorced him after she rejected his proposal to get back together. As if that saintly woman could stand this horrible womaniser near her. Sue Jones also rejected him. So Sukanya is making out like she won him and took him away from all these women but the truth is, she was the LAST CHOICE and everyone else left him and rejected him and she got the dregs. Lol.

Loved this interview. Fascinated and intrigued by them. I have respect snd empathy. However, let's not get lost in the 'love' and romance and forget all the pain involved. Ladies (and even Men), anyone who treats you like this is not worth the pain. Life is too too short to invest so much in someone for whom you're not even a remote priority. Also, no 'happy ending' is worth all of that. The 'LOVE' might be very real but is not enough of a reason to stay with someone who doesn't reciprocate your energy and fails to return that love in equal measure.

He was very fortunate to have been recognised and rewarded. Though it is equally very sad and pinching to have the facts known that there are hundreds of Musicians Artistes and great Maestros, (many contemporaries) who equally deserve more recognitions and deserve the highest Awards and Rewards. Definitely Pandit Ravi Shankar ji deserved what he was honoured with. But what about those unsung heroes who really worked very hard to popularise Indian Music and performing art, like a gallery slave. With due respect to the whole lot of great musicians and music fraternity, I feel that its a fact that Publicity and propaganda plays a very important role irrespective of the calibre and achievements of any musician or a creative artiste.

Monogamy n loyalty takes back seat when u have a man who is present with u n cares for u n u know u hv him for a while but it’s all about u. Such men know how to fulfill women emotionally. N I truly believe a artist who has explored all these variety of emotions can create such exceptional music

Sukanyaji is a right old character who was very much sidelined the first time that Panditji visited us at the Bhavan here in London. He was so encouraging even after he had heard my voice. I felt so honoured to be acknowledged by him. Once I saw him around 14 years later during the very year that this interview was carried out at the Bhavan again, I noticed Sukanya just glaring at me while she admired the diyas there in a comment she made to the Director Nandaji at the time. I immediately knew that I should be cautious around her and Panditji. I believe I did bump into Anoushka as a child too. This interview reveals how many people were hurt along the way for this family to be formed. I believe that Sukanya absolutely controlled Panditji to his dying day.

I have said for a long time that Panditji was a great father-figure to me. From the time he asked me to sing a note after hearing my voice from amongst a group of students, when I was really little, at the Bhavan here in London, to seeing Sukanyaji being a really funny character when I was older, again at the Bhavan, I really felt him to be such a part of my life. He continued visiting the Bhavan after this and after he passed away Sukanyaji has been visiting us at the Bhavan, a lot. And she is as ever so bubbly and friendly. Their daughter is amazing and Nora is so talented, too! I sensed that they were such a wonderful family unit.

10:26 that’s the calling of it all. If u will listen to interviews of anoushka they say her mother used to sing her lullaby and she would fall asleep to melodies and had an effinity towards music sukanya imbibed it in her n now look at anoushka . Hear lasya there is no other tune like dat. Sukanya has so much faith in the future she saw way before things fruited. I don’t promote or support cheating or pathology. She just admired him tremendously and being herself a musician. She knew what she was bringing to life. She has hurt many people on the way but look at anoushka her talent and understanding of music is gifted. She is keeping and spreading Indian classical music like the only one. There are so few talented and gifted men that they truly have many female fans. I am a promonogamy but I am been in sukanyas situation where all legalities and social construct take back seat. I let it go but a women like sukanya knew she will have daughter Anoushka has been a calling of it all. He is a very loved man simply.😊

That could be correct. She was his guru' daughter and when he cheated on her he ended up disrespecting his guru. Even if they married early in life at least he could have been graceful. He could have got the divorce and then had affairs. He even never took care of his son with her. He's useless as a family man. Matured so late in life when perhaps he couldn't really have sex anyway owing to age. So settled with a much younger woman who was ready to behave like a bhikari for his love and agreed to whatever arrangement he offered. This woman sets a very bad eg for women in love. It was actually Annapurna ji who brought up their son all alone.

I think that is what is very funny about this whole social construct. they both were different people who got married under family obligations. she was a conservative unwilling to roll and follow tradition and panditji wanted to explore. It was definitely a clash of personalities and egos. with great fame comes a lot of boundless love from people where one is spoiled with opportunities.

A doormat with no talent, so Ravi Shankar seemed like god's gift to her. Compare to Ravi Shankar's first wife, who was a genius of a musician who far exceeded him in spiritual achievement, musical skill and learning and sheer talent. When Ravi Shankar cheated on her in their first years of marriage, she stopped physical relations with him and left. He also tried to change her ways of playing, and she refused. She basically refused to follow his way in anything. In 1981 he tried to reconcile with her after decades of estrangement, and she refused. His other girlfriends also rejected him then, including Kamala and Sue Jones. So he was left with Sukanya who had no standards and was a doormat.

Just reminded me some of the dialogues by Mozart in the movie "Amadeus " : "Forgive me, Majesty. I am a vulgar man! But I assure you, my music is not. "...By Mozart Salleri (who was later recognized for his music , but not when he was alive) was jealous of Mozart who seemed a vulgar man to him. Salleti was God fearing with high morales who dedicated his work to God and had strict code of conduct. Here is a dialogue of him talking himself to God about Mozart " . : "From now on we are enemies, You and I. Because You choose for Your instrument a boastful, lustful, smutty, infantile boy and give me only the ability to recognize the incarnation. Because You are unjust, unfair, unkind I will block You, I swear it. I will hinder and harm Your creature on Earth as far as I am able. I will ruin Your incarnation." Salleri was astonished how vulgar(whom he saw with a woman under a table) was Mozart . Here are the quotes " That was Mozart. That! That giggling dirty-minded creature I had just seen, crawling on the floor!" "That was not Mozart laughing, Father... that was God. That was God laughing at me through that obscene giggle...

She's smitten by an older, very successful man whose more talented than her. It's hero worship, nothing else. Love could be there. But surrender is because it's an unequal partnership. She still looks starry-eyed at him. And his skills with women are refined. Well-mannered and mild, soft spoken musical genius. Also artists feel differently than an average person. They don't rationalize everything. So it can't be dissected like this.

Just swap the genders... What if it's an older, successful, richer, promiscuous, non committal woman and a younger man taking care of the child alone with no personal life? Then this kind of a marriage. What would say then😲...

What a shame on u Mr. Ravi... I would even restrain from calling u pandit... The relationship and stuff u did was ur personal life...but curbing the talent of ur first wife... Its pathetic... Also this lady who is in serious obsession with that fan figure is an different level... What gives you courage to stand out and tell all these with no regrets....

Was wondering about this; 1 love for music or art so deep. 2. Cupid strikes again and again, no human has conquered this. 3. People on earth confused with love for love, love for music. 4. Now assume that pandit ji was a women then, will women fall in love? Is there a gender factor in lust or love? 5. Children born out of love, marriage and music have all 3 elements in them its nice but confusing too. 6. Our scriptures say that all artists of classical music and dance are Gandharvas who are cursed. They will keep searching love, love, love with pain and only pain. U cant escape these curses as they are part of your karma, so sad but true.

If u do a little research on Anoushka she is very similar to her father, but a women sexual endeavours aren’t same for man n women. Since she isn’t living a traditional life I m sure she must not b facing so much judgement but I m sure she must not be as butterfly as her father. Anoushka is beautiful n half of her crew looks at her with so much love lust hope n respect. Such craft is rare with such precision people definitely get attracted to charming artists they know all the emotions artists are okay with feeling all the emotions n dats how they r always overwhelmed with attention admiration they get spoiled
