My husband left me for a younger woman that looked just like me. His third affair became his second marriage. He took her to all the places we've been to and took pictures with her where I had my pictures taken. My whole 9 year history with this man erased by selfish lustful desires. I didn't exist anymore. He replaced me, our memories, with a counterfeit. And he called her the same things he had once ascribed to me. The "queen of his castle" his soulmate, his angel, the love of his life. His principessa. These were all my names. And now they are hers. I only think of him when I hear music like this. It brings everything back. But it all belongs in the past. Everything is the past. If anyone is "shiny and new", it is you, Anoushka. You had to wash the dirt off and evolve out of your pain into a new woman. I am now a new woman. Everything that was broken has mended but doesn't move and bend the same way. I move and bend in a different way. Like water. Water always makes a new path when the old path is sealed. The goal is to flow from one place and be in another place. Never be stuck in a place you don't belong. Belong where you deserve to be.

> My whole 9 year history with this man erased by selfish lustful desires It doesn't have to be that way. My wife also left me under similar conditions. I've many fond memories but I haven't erased them. I'm happy for her instead. Why would I stand in the way of her going after what she wants from her life? The only reason I can think is because I had my own selfish, lustful desires. I don't want to be selfish or lustful. Instead, I congratulate her on the courage she had to pursue what she wanted in her life. I love her very much, and I'd only ever want her to pursue what makes her happy, even if it comes at my expense. That is what true love is.

The Sitar is a singer. I love this honesty throughout the voice of the co-singer because for me the Sitar says more than the singer and the way Anoushka plays the Sitar is killing. Usually in this kind of subject (betrayal or cheating in couples) there's a lot of screaming and big/heavy instruments sometimes you have a simple piano-voice but not often. I like the way she expresses the feelings . Pain can be expressed through a pure silence and pure feelings.

The lyrics are so personal yet something a lot of people can relate to. Anoushka Shankar yet again champions this concept of writing music which is painfully personal yet every listener can identify themselves in it. I have to say "Serpent in my bed" is my absolute! favorite line, but I also really love the "I know she’s younger than me - less pain to carry" part and "now are you haunted by me" is so harrowing in a good way, with "but repetition lies ahead for you" being one of the most powerful scary fortunes I've ever heard.

dear Anoushka, I can sense deep pain in this expression. Phenomenal artists like you find solace in music as this gift enables you to reach out to the divine in you. In deep acceptance, the expectations drop and life flows like a perennial river and the romance of it emerges. you truly deserve all the bliss. let your music be the purest bhava of freedom, love, compassion, Our world can do better with glorious musical expressions that emerges from you. I had watched your first performance with Ustad Zakir Hussain Ji. In those gleaming eyes, We all got to see hope, talent, gratitude, compassion, pure beauty. please inspire yourself and come back to your peak glory of expression.

Anoushka playing wonderful. The musicians are great. The lyrics are cliché, banal. I have a friend, a woman who is a big fan of Anoushka she just told she turned off this song. In my opinion the singing does not harmonize with the music but it is a question of taste. I would not dislike but I can't listen it to the end either.

This is a soulful journey to the heart of a painful experience and back again. I love it all - but am enthralled with the upright bass and the sitar.

this is a new form of the blues as in Western music; and the fact that it has come from a woman musician in India is just an amazing moment. The musical life of the planet is moving in a way that reflects the fact we are now so very connected to every part of the globe. Also this is so incredibly moving and powerful-just like the early blues singers in the US. Anoushka has revealed an new level of her art.

We(Indians) have very rich ancient history of classical music, it's a shame today's bollywood/generation doesn't care about that actually. If u want I can suggest some great music which is way different than this but will take you to another universe. seems like from out of the world.

Funnily enough, I heard this song the day it went live. I skipped it after a few moments. Things happened and I ended up here again. The striking difference between how I perceived this then and how I perceive this now is amazing. Those little experiences have made each note on the sitar more relatable and the lyrics more pinching than ever.

This is not a weeping sing or a melody of pain. Will a goddess weep or feel sad if a mere, petty man "leaves" her? No one can leave her. This is purest form of art, bigger than anything, specially something as volatile or meaningless as human emotions. Shine on, my goddess!
