Thank you for another great video. I will be setting up an afs in my fathers pond. I bought the baskets from Home Depot. They are 10x10x6. The holes on the sides looked too big so I lined the sides with pet screen so the clay doesn’t fall out. I’ll be using safety sorb with fluorite red for iron. About how many baskets do I need? The pond is about 7x14 and 3 ft deep. Is there a ratio of lbs of clay to gallons of water? Say 1lb per 10g? Or another rule of thumb to go by? I know u say 1 basket per koi but I’m not planning to have koi.

If the nitrates are all removed then how do the plants get fed? My nitrates are always zero with the bcb. I just have hornwort and am afraid to use the bcb's in my planted CO2 tanks. My plenum tank still gets a moderate nitrate level 20-40 with slow growing plants mostly. BCB seems to work much better.

Do I need to use laterite for the iron source in a BCB? Or can I use kitty litter with a liquid iron source for my canister BCB I am making? I've seen you use both and wondering if ones better than the other? Thank for you for time Doc and love the content and keep up the good work!!!

Hello Dr. Novak! Can a BCB be used in an Fluval FX6 canister? If so, how it can be done?

How does this type of bacteria get in the pond or aquarium to start with? If it is not added then it can not multiply.

An iron nails be added as laterite substitute

If plants are added from the start, they will take in ammonia directly instead of having to compete with nitrifying bacteria

Why not use a piece of iron instead of laterite?
