Ansuman Roy was a successful Bengali Folk singer during the late 1960s and late 1988 and onwards. He was born in Jhargram, West Bengal, India. After completing his School Finals from Jhargram, he carried on research work on Bengali Folk Literature and Folk tunes of South West Border of West Bengal for 10 years. He also showed interest and a special aptitude for Indian Classical Music and Light Music since boyhood. In 1975, he was awarded the Bangabandhu Gold Medal, by the Government of Bangladesh for his song "Shono Ekti Mujibar er theke", written by Shri. Gouri Prasanna Majumdar. The record was published by the Hindusthan Records Company in 1971. He was also awarded the "Best Playback Singer (Male) for the song "Ghochang Foo" from the film Char Murti (1978). He had worked with many iconic stalwarts of his time like - Sudhin Dasgupta, Aloke Nath De, Pulak Bondhopadhaya, Gouri Prasanna Mazumdar, Sibdas Bandhopadhaya, Manna Dey, Sandhya Mukherjee, Banasree Sengupta, Haimanti Shukla, Hemanta Mukherjee, Shyamal Mitra, Ajoye Das, Manabendra Mukherjee, Ashok Roy, Jatileswar Mukherjee, Dinendra Chaudhury, and others.
