Yes, it is super helpful to have people train you to use public transportation. In my area, their is a group called Ride Connection that will train people to use the bus or light rail or street cars in the area. They will meet you, PAY for the trip, discuss all your questions, teach you how to use transit apps, and how/where to buy and use the fare pass. And they will train you more than one time if needed, or if you'd like training on buses then on light rail, etc. We are much more willing to take the bus now that we've had our training and pretty much understand how it works.

I think the cities with population 200.000 and more should have both urban rail and inter-city rail.

Great first point! The better intra-city transit and lack of inter-city transit options between Calgary & Edmonton is exactly the strategy Alberta has used. Mayor Nenshi back a decade or so ago made that a clear point: invest within cities first, and then it will be easier for people to get around once the high speed rail is built. I agree that it's much better for daily life to have more options to get around your city than just a car...key reason I left the States and moved to Calgary.

Agreed! Honolulu's new light rail system is another example. It was built outside of the metro area with plans to expand into and within the metro area later. If they had started construction within the city and build outward incrementally, they would have attracted intra-city commuters that would help recoup the construction cost through fare collections. At current, city dwellers mostly drive or take the bus to work, both getting stuck in traffic, and drivers usually have to pay upwards of $100 per month in parking. No one in the city can commute via rail, and no one who lives along the completed portion of the rail line outside of the city can commute into the city. The rail system exists to basically take no one nowhere😖

Hey my comment got brought up (theemperorsartist). Dont worry we are keeping the heat up on moving urbanism especially with the Rio Grande Plan here in Salt Lake City! Big fan of this video and your content in general and hope to maybe see a longer video on your thoughts on the RGP because of your general comments on it via your reel that cut off early (thanks instagram).

I’m late to ask, but what can we (individuals) do so local governments put more attention into building more transit friendly areas? I’m based in ATL and MARTA works well for the rail surroundings, but as soon as you step away from them you’re depending on an unreliable bus system. Thanks for your content!
