Kind of. It's mainly due to political parties. They make politics like war. Most people choose a political party, and just vote for that party. Even if they don't know what they're stances are. Interestingly the Pythagorean theorem isn't quite as universal as you might think. There are other geometries ("non-Euclidean" geometries), like elliptic geometry and hyperbolic geometry, in which the Pythagorean theorem is not true. In fact Einstein's theory of relativity says that physical space is NOT Euclidean, although for everyday life it is very nearly Euclidean so this is a good enough approximation.
