I realize that drip irrigation has its benefits, but I do believe that you know your garden so much better when you hand water. Like you said, not everything needs to be watered every day, and hand watering gives you the time to inspect your plants and understand their growing habits. Plus, it’s just a peaceful and joyful time for me personally ❤

Yes! Learned this year my local nursery has organic compost with spec sheets available for $40.00 a yard and 35.00 delivery fee. So much cheaper than what I've spent on buying in bags. Plan on getting 2 yard and adding that either in the fall to prep for spring 2025 or in the spring. It will be a big money saver!

It's weird more people don't garden. Even if they just grew a couple tomatoes or herbs. I think maybe they don't cook at home either.

When I was a kid every house in our local area had a house garden , now sadly not many do, sadly thats society as they have programmed the majority of people today.

I think I'm you in 10+ years lol...grey haired, child-free, former NPC masters bikini competitor. My husband and I homestead on a 5 acre hobby farm and started gardening intensively during the pandemic. It's amazing how much food can be grown on little land! Our garden is under an acre and provides us with most of our food for the year and has also become an additional source of income (we started a garlic business on the side that has now become my husband's full time job!) I feel like gardening is cumulative....every year you learn more, your soil improves, and you get a better idea of what's worth your time and energy to grow and what isn't. I recommend getting into mushroom growing if you haven't! It's such a great way to add an additional food source to the garden (especially in shady areas) while improving your soil's biodiversity and building your compost. If you get free hardwood chips where you are score (we only have pine here!)

Gardening is fun! It’s trial and error and it’s a good way to learn. People can learn how to penny pinch and still make due and get those intellectual juices flowing. Also, it’s very dependent on location, location and location and what works for people. It won’t all be the same but similar. GL gardeners!

I live out in the country on .81 acres and immediately made my veggie garden plans. So many of our neighbors have SO much land and not a single vegetable garden, just acres of lawn to mow. It makes me so sad!

Hi Bri- really just found this channel and am loving it! Your enthusiasm is contagious! Moving from PA to NC next month and will begin actual outdoor gardening 😊 I grow indoors now- pretty worried about moving my plants, but think it will be ok? IDK? I will be trolling your older videos as I figure out how to garden outdoors! Thanks for all your hard work!

I think part of what I enjoy about the videos I watch is learning about who they are, how they ended up doing whatever it is they’re doing that I’m tuning in to see. Everyone has a story, it often gives insight as to why the person is how they are. I’m so fascinated to hear that the strawberry cage has been a game changer for your strawberry harvest! We are really struggling too and have been considering revamping the beds and when that happens the beds will be raised a little higher and I’m thinking attaching a cage is a good idea. I’m also wondering if that would be helpful for beds with cabbage and broccoli etc. 🤔 Thanks for sharing!

I wish I could move out of California so homes are more affordable and I can own land and grow food like you, but I might only a move to blue states as a POC :”) I had friends who moved to Ohio, South Carolina, and Arizona but they faced a lot of racism. I hope maybe I can do this in California too! I heard SoCal has great weather for growing food, like San Diego.

Since you mentioned monetizing off YT and it taking 3 years, which is a crazy long time. These platforms are ridiculous in that regard. If anyone remembers pre-YT and social media, internet, etc. But, I think an explanation of that breakdown would be good to discuss. GL!

I love your content Bre! I just moved from TN to KS and definitely miss TN, but doing a garden this year and also getting chickens too! I also kill off my houseplants, but love spending time in the garden! For the pig/cattle panel, how did you transport them home from the store? They are so big, but having trouble figuring out how to get them home. Thanks so much!

Could you talk some about composting? :) and what you do with weeds? Especially weeds that have gone to seed. I'm guessing those shouldn't go in the compost?

You can make compost tea. Put them in a rubbish bin (trash can) and cover with water. I forget for how long. More than a few weeks. Strain off the liquid, dilute, and use as fertiliser. (It does stink though.) The left over material can go in the compost bin.

If you want to have 5 to ten acres and have animals and you eat meat, which I assume you do, you will have to face the reality of having to slaughter the livestock that you have produced from your farming efforts, be it lambs, ducks, chickens, goats or beef sooner or later you or your husband will have to step up and sacrifice a life to feed you and your family, love your videos and you are a breath of fresh air.
