I read up about this a while ago. I first read about it in a case where a son was taken away from his mother due to their DNA not matching (not sure why they tested it to begin with, but its irrelevant). She went through years of legal battles. Eventually, one doctor thought to test her womb, and it had a different set of DNA, which matched her kid.. Insane.
@thebunnyfoofoo7 жыл бұрын
justin hyland the reason she was being tested is probably one of two stories (because I have heard two different cases of this). One was a custody battle, and the father wanted a DNA test son done to prove it was his child. The test ended up showing the mom's DNA didn't match. The other case happened when a family member needed a kidney transplant, and the test was showing the mother had different DNA than kids.
@notebookluvr6 жыл бұрын
thebunnyfoofoo that sounds similar to one i watched with the lady with the kidney transplant but the other was a lady who was applying for govt assistance and when the govt office received the test results it said that he was the father but her DNA didn't match the kids. They were going to prosecute her for fraud. They finally believed her when she delivered her third child they made someone be present to take a blood sample from the new baby. It also tested not a match to her DNA. They finally dropped the charges and she got her older two kids back.

It makes sense that this could be another marker of the condition too but it's weird to see it so obviously defined like that, fascinating stuff! That’s cool! However, not everyone who absorbed their twin in the womb is affected with chimerism, because they say the condition is uncommon, but a twin absorbing the other in the womb really isn’t that uncommon. The thing that makes her a Chimera, isn’t the fact that she absorbed her twin in the womb, just the fact that she now shares their dna and immune system, and the symptoms that come with that.

When I saw her picture, I immediately knew her condition. I've read about it decades ago, and even saw an episode of CSI, in which a killer's DNA from body fluids on his victim didn't match that from a cheek sample collected by the lab technician. He had a tell-tale pattern on his back when exposed to black light. Grissom solved it much faster than Taylor's doctors -- under an hour. :-)

Taylor Muhl I'm sorry. This was a question for Rapberry_Pi. I've seen a case of a child with one white and one black parent inherent both dark and light skin from both parents and have one side with dark skin and one side with light skin. But now that I think about it, maybe that was a case of chimerism. Maybe the mother had twins with one inheriting dark skin, and one light, and one twin absorbed the other. Thank you for sharing your story. This is sure to help so many people. One other thing I want to mention is that there was a woman who did not know she had chimerism and was DNA tested and doctors believed she that she was not the mother of her son. This led to the discovery of chimerism--that she had two sets of DNA in her body. This is something you already know, but if you have children, it's something to think about.

My friends think I’m a chimera. Literally was flooded with this video. It describes everything I’m dealing with and all my doctors tell me “sometimes things happen and we can’t explain why.” Blood work comes back negative multiple times they do skin tests and that is positive. If I take medicine that says “take 2 pills” I have to either take one or half of one. If it says “may cause drowsiness.” I have to be prepared to sleep for 10 to 12 hours. I’ve developed asthma, eczema, allergies to basically EVERYTHING. My list grows every month. And they can’t test for it cause my blood work is always negative. I just have to eat or touch something and be like “oh okay that can be added to the list.” I would have sinus infections like women have periods. I grew up always sick, strep, ear infection, colds, flu. I do have some parts of my skin an tad darker than the rest. Even with allergy meds I have hives. My mom even told me growing up or when she talked about being pregnant with me “we always thought you would be a twin even the doctors were shocked it was just you in there.”

I recently learned that I’m a chimera. I had a DNA test done and am carrying a partial Y chromosome so my twin would have been a boy with brown eyes. And Medicine can act funny with me, medicine that says “may cause doziness” for me that means I’ll be out for 10 to 12 hours. And if I take medicine for over time my body is use to it and it stops working soooo maybe! My moms doctor did think she was pregnant with twins but it was just me!😂😂😂😂

+090310naz The other video showed that she has a line going down her belly where one side has one twin's skin tone, and the other side has the other twin's skin tone. (They were FRATERNAL twins, not identical twins.) The one thing they did here between the two videos that wasn't quite right was they had her saying "I absorbed my twin". No. The two twins absorbed each other. She's actually two people merged together into one. Parts of her body are made up of the one twin's DNA, other parts are made up of the other twin's DNA. Other women who've found this out about themselves have actually had DNA tests say they're not their kids' mother. The DNA test checked their blood or maybe their mouth tissues, but their ovaries were made up of the other twin's cells. So in the DNA test, it looked like the mother was actually an aunt to the kids. (In both cases, they'd eventually check another body part's DNA on the mother, and find THAT body part DID have DNA that matched the kids.)

No, she won't "pass on" her chimerism. But it will mean that her kids' DNA will match whatever set of DNA her ovaries are and not necessarily any other part of her body. Which has caused problems for women who are told years later that their children, whom they gave birth to, can't really be theirs (based on a blood test). A woman nearly had her children taken away because the court assumed she must have kidnapped them.
