Thank you for taking up my question first, Harsha. What is the IPL's main agenda? The IPL in my view has to primarily serve & take Indian cricket ahead. Yes, it has helped Indian cricketers over it's 17 years. The entertainment factor is an agenda sure but not at the expense of Indian cricket and the Indian cricket team. Thus, if a rule like an Impact Sub is hurting one section of Indian cricketers (likes of Washy, Dube, Deepak Chahar etc.), it must be rolled back.

One positive of the impact player that is not being addressed - Teams have started playing fearlessly because of the extra cushion . Playing fearless cricket has been one of the factors that Indian team has not achieved success in ICC tournaments . The mindset of the current genartkon is changing and they have started being fearless . This is a positive of impact subs
@basileldho9846Ай бұрын
4:23 For every evolution or change that has happened to cricket (and there has been many), there was a counter balancing force from within the game. Impact sub rule is currently benefitting batters because more batters equal more runs, but more bowlers doesn't always equal more wickets. But I believe, in the coming seasons, the bowlers will adapt and teams will figure out how to use their bowling resources better. Rajasthan Royals is at the top of the table this season, and it's not because they are scoring 200+ every match. They are actually using the impact sub to bolster their bowling, especially when Nandre Burger was fit. I expect more teams to do that in next season. Because if every team can score 200+, then your star studded batting line-up is no longer special. But if you have a bowling attack that can restrict a team under 200, then the game is yours for the taking. The inevitable consequence is that every aspect of the game will become more specialised. Genuine all rounders will survive, bowlers who can bat a bit will also survive but batters who can bowl a bit will become extinct. And let's be honest, as far as Indian team is concerned, batters who can bowl a bit stopped being a thing long before impact sub rule. Ever since Yuvi and Raina retired, we have not been able to find top order batters with whom you can trust 2-3 overs every match. In that sense, impact sub is a symptom, not the root cause.

Question for Part 2 Harshaji - who is the next bumrah of Indian cricket? Is it Mayank Yadav or is it just too early to based on a few IPL performances? What is BCCI's long term plan for an intelligent fast bowler?

decades later, the greatest puzzle in the game of cricket is still - "Packing just enough bowlers to bowl 50 or 20 overs without losing out on batting strength & keeper". Impact Rule destroyed it, made it easy....

Harsha. With respect to the impact sub rule maybe one could element of more deeper research by teams by making it applicable only in 50% matches they play at league stage. Choice rests with team to use it whenever. Not applicable in playoff

I used to watch IPL crazily until 3-4 years back as I loved cricket and in this tournament, cricket was being played on another level with best bowlers and batsman and all-rounders and youngsters all packed together in 8 teams. I last watched IPL wholeheartedly in 2020 when there were 8 teams. But nowadays it doesn't feel like cricket any more, it's more like hit and gone game. Bcz of t20 the whole essence of cricket is getting destroyed day by day. Better name this sport anything else cz cricket is test cricket and ODI also but not t20s that we are seeing today. Because of IPL no youngster is choosing to practice well defensive shots and techniques that are required for test, they are just trying to hit as many sixes as they can. In a few more years test cricket will become a far gone tale.

@sidddhaarthsrikanthАй бұрын
In my eyes, the IPL is simply it's own entity, it's own entertainment package and competition, that in turn, helps provide opportunities to young Indian and some foreign talent to run shoulders with literally the best. The Indian Cricket team and the IPL should be seen to be two different entities in the broader sense, however form of players and such would obviously carry over since it's obviously a game of T20 cricket.
@Evil_Clown-eh6jzАй бұрын
Mr Bhogle here goes on and on about being unbiased. But I struggle to recall too many instances of him being genuinely unbiased in commentary, especially when any 'star' Indian player has been involved. Let's not forget that Mr. Bhogle is vetted and 'approved' by the BCCI and it is his job-requirement that he toes the BCCI line.

Why is India not thinking beyond gill, rohit & jaiswal to open the batting for t20 world cup ? Ruturaj has better stats & consistency in t20's (both international & domestic level) than gill, rohit & jaiswal over the last 4 years. Gaikwad is the fastest batsman to score 2000 runs in IPL. As of now, 2nd position in orange cap as well. I think its better to let ruturaj & kohli open the batting. Bumrah can lead the team.

@Harsha, never understood why you can get runs of a leg bye. If you can run on leg byes, ideally you should be given caught of the legs as well. It's seems an unfair rule to bowlers, where the bowler has actually beaten the batsman.

Is it fair to include the high scoring records or now the highest successful chases under the records and statistics of all T20s, especially with the Impact Sub rule playing a major role in achieving such feats? With the majority of the T20 world not following such rules, shouldn't the numbers that we want to absorb as stats, be recorded based on level-playing fields?
