New tutorial in Ansys 17.0 FEA Fluent CFD of a 3D NACA 2412 airfoil using dynamically changing velocity profile along with changing angle of attack. Velocity goes from 0 to 40m/s and the angle of attack from 0deg to 40deg. We will use turbulence flow models, generate CD and CL profiles, force results and generate pressure and velocity contour plots.
We will be rendering fancy 3D animation videos in CFD-POST for post processing the FEA results, using streamlines, volumetric rendering, specular lighting, etc.

Thanks for the tutorial! I've search all over the internet, but your tutorial is much more comprehensive and clear! Keep up the good work! :) P.S. why did you use hex dominant instead of tetra? You mentioned adding boundary layers for more detailed mesh, but inflation can't be used with hex dominant.

+Michael Nguyen hey thanks for the support! I used hex to save on element count in order to reduce calculation time. You could use tetra with inflation for more accuracy!

Awesome video, keep posting useful content as you always do. I would appreciate a lot if you could explain the correct relations for distances of the boundary faces from the airfoil.

+Vitinho995 hey thanks! I havent done the math, but I would say you should use something like at least 5x the airfoil length, so 5m on all sides

Thank you very much for providing very useful information. I have purchased it. I have designed new airfoils and I want to check at all angle of attacks (0 to 30) for each velocity magnitude. Please could you help me how to do it ? what are changes required in your code ?

Hey Good Video! I think you could have explained the udf part more. You have made us understand what the udf is doing but if you could explain it line by line like "f" is face, what each variable mean it would be helpful. - intermediate learner

Great video DrDalyO.. I was also interested in the part where you talk about dynamic meshing. A problem that I am interested is in oscillating the angle of attack within a certain set of values. Which UDF macro would be beneficial in achieving a rotational motion of the airfoil- DEFINE_CG_MOTION or DEFINE_ZONE_MOTION? I also know that there is a moving wall option that can be used to provide a rotational motion to the airfoil when defining boundary conditions which could be helpful in some way. Which one do you suggest?

Thanks for uploading this tutorial. Sir, I am facing a problem. I have a wing which have different airfoil at the root and at the tip. How to make a solid wing using two different profiles. The loft option is not working as the profiles are different.

the area in excel is this for airfoil or boundary and why you choose 0.5 m for extrude the sketching , we can increase the measurement or should be adjoined airfoil

hi!worth buying! could u please tell me why did you set the Angle and Mag(velocity) in excel the same? are there any equations describing the relationship between them?

+CHEN CHEN there was no reason why i made the angle and magnitude the same, it was just for the tutorial to make it simple. You could change the variation of angle and magnitude as you wish. The relation only exists when expanding the magnitude into X Y components. Please see the formulas in the excel sheet

Hi! Thank you for the upload, just wanted to know, I'm working for two angle of attacks (3 and 5). Should I simply resolve components in X and Y coordinates in velocity inlet and input them, or create a UDF file for them? Also, I want to study the magnus effect on the rocket while it is following its trajectory. So, should I rotate the mesh or the body? And how to do either of that? Thank you. Excellent stuff!

The Video Is usefull however I have a few questions, If i want to make a wing with several different Naca, How can i upload eash one at different planes? I mean lets say i have 1 aerofiol root Naca XXX then 10cm offset it i want to have another Naca XXX to create a model?

+Josh Denny i just calculated the X and Y components myself. Please download the spreadsheet in the description. Its simple math to do it. If your stuck again, feel free to ask another question

Whenever I try to run the calculation I get an error message within the first 10 seconds saying 'Error writing compressed file' Error Object: #f ..where am I going wrong?

+Dylan Hayes R. Could be something to do with your software installation. I also had a problem on windows 10 with gzip. I had to download a newer version and replace it in the install folder. Google gzip cfd forum drdalyo, not sure if its the same issue

Im sorry to hear that. You could still follow the tutorial, only difference would be that you need to limit your element count I believe. Make a more coarse mesh that works with your version and follow the rest.

I am not sure what is included in the student version. You will probably have limitations, and not sure if Fluent is included..

Yes, although to the same quality. If you would want to refine the mesh then you are very likely going to hit element limit
