Even if seasonally stored and well maintained? I want one but would you advise against on account of the rust problem?

@@IzzyOM A close friend at the time had 1 & that's how I got interested in them. He had a 1972. I had a 1978 & 2000. Now both of us were fanatics about waxing etc. They didn't put undercoating on them! So, make sure you check out the under carriage, including under the wheel wells, nose & tail, and the floorboard-lift up the rug etc. Look for hidden rust, bubbling in the paint, & have a body shop do a complete inspection if you cannot yourself. And remember, parts are sparse & very expensive. Valve jobs were also a problem, even with regular oil/filter changes & timing updates. Up to you. Good Luck!

@@IzzyOM To add to my other reply: If you are very handy working on cars & have access to places that manufacture parts no longer discoverable/available anywhere & really want a vintage 124-2000 then don't let anything stop you from fulfilling your desire or dream. This car is a cinch to work on with its overhead cam, with plenty of room under the hood to change out parts. It's a very fun car & much roomier than the new models. You should know to never switch to Synthetic oil on ANY car that's used conventional oil, as the Synthetic will not adhere to the inner workings of oil-conditioned engines. I don't remember if it used Leaded gas. But, for the average driver I would say "Stay away"! Please let me know what you've decided.

Not bad. There are quite a few originals out there in various conditions, usually quite used. And there are reproductions of door panels and window cranks, mirrors and things like that

Just curious what 5 cylinder engine? A conversion kit to put a VW/Audi or M/B or Acura or GM. All Fiats are 4 cylinder. When you say coupe do you mean hardtop or convertible(which is called Spyder, coupe is solid hardtop). Only Spyder in the 80's had optional turbo model. Last 124 Sport Coupe year was '75-'76 and no turbos on these older cars, at least not factory. As a fairly knowledgeable Fiat nut myself, just curious what model this is.

The 124 line of front engine/rear drive Fiats as well as the old 850 rear engine Spyder and the X/19 mid-engine are usually the only ones considered special because they were. 124 cars came as 4door sedan known as 124 TC Special, 124 Sport Coupe(hardtop), and 124 Spyder(convertible). All124s came with twin cam solid lifter high rev engines and 5 speeds(except sedan I believe) 4 wheel disc brakes(except sedan) and amazing ability to stick to the road on hard cornering. That's why I love my '75 Sport Coupe. By the way, the 4 door sedan design minus drivetrain was sold to the Soviet block in the 70s I believe to make millions of Ladas. Built more robust than Fiats, they(older ones) look exactly like 124 sedans. Fiat knowledge. Enjoy the holiday. Be safe. Be vigilant with covid-19.
