What type of defense did they play under Cran at GA? See.... Better question, what type of defense did they play at Wash with Jaden McDaniels? They played zone, as most college programs do. Not man. Coach Finch plays almost exclusively man. So now, you can see them on ball more and 1 on 1. So, not only did you not see them playing this defense, no one did as they didn't.

i've followed him since rookie season day 1. he wants to be jordan v2, and has been developing his game incrementally. he had to clean up his shot n finishing first. Then developed his passing, then came the D, esp as the team got more D-minded in yr 3. His passing is much improved, but he still needs to lob pass better w gobert who has clumsy hands and scores largely on rim runs and easy close shots. He has mental lapses on D, and he can isoball too long.

@@HoopVenue - why is everyone obsessed with players being the lead playmaker. Ant is a throwback sg, his job is to score, but he can playmake as well
@HoopVenue
@HoopVenue 10 ай бұрын
It's just that for a player to truly reach that "next level" it requires lead creator capabilities. Even those "throwback SGs" you reference, the ones who could be that lead creator separated themselves from the pack. MJ is the obvious example, but playmaking is what separates the MVP score-first players from guys like Melo, Reggie, Nique, and Bernard King. @@nydibs
@nydibs
@nydibs 10 ай бұрын
@HoopVenue - I get that, but Ant averaged 4.4 assists last year, I think that’s higher than Reggie or Melo ever averaged in a season Also, Ant does not have a high usage rate compared to other stars. If his usage rate was higher he would be averaging 6 assists easy Ant can playmake, he can pass, but Ant let’s the other players shine in my opinion, he lets them get involved, not just by kicking out for an open 3
@HoopVenue
@HoopVenue 10 ай бұрын
It's not about usage or assist numbers, it's about getting used to different types of reads so that he's prepared for when playoff defenses inevitably force him into them. If you lack in certain playmaking reads, it starts to bleed into your scoring because opposing defenses can schematically attack the weakness, so by becoming a better playmaker it'd by default lead to more resilient scoring.

The “point” is Ant is not even playing that well. As a volume shooter, he will always get his points but it has been below efficient at best in all the Fiba games. Shooting about 45%, which is ok in the NBA season but is below par in these games against less athletic defenders. Most USA team players shoot above 50%.
