The best films leave a lot up to the audiences imagination which makes them scarier imo, like The Exorcist for example. I cant stand modern day jump scare crap, not scary at all and makes me cringe a lot of the time. It's like they're getting lazy with it with CGI and obvious jumps scares you can see coming from a mile away. Instead of making countless crappy sequels, knowing they will sell, they should come up with something new instead of dragging a series out just to make money riding the coat tails of the first and only good film of the series.

I imagine as an actor (I'm not one btw), hearing someone like Sir Anthony Hopkins say he doesn't like theatre work, is probably quite a nice thing to hear. I think a lot of actors feel the need to say that they love the theatre as it's almost like it's considered the classical way of acting that all actors should aspire to. Of course, I could be completely wrong!

@@siranthonyhopkinshq1690 I have been a fan for 30 years. I had to Google and do the math, because it seems like I have been a fan my entire life. Silence of the Lambs was the first experience. It did quiet a number on me. I watched my purse through most of the movie and cried. Interestingly, it was the Buffalo Bill character that terrified me. Hannibal was the only part I could watch. I was fascinated by the psychology behind him. I wanted to be Clarice, so I could interview him, and thus, a fan was born. Remains of the Day was the second piece of work I saw. And I was blown away! It is still one of my favorite films. I remember at the end saying, "Now that's what a movie should be." I also loved The Edge, Legends of the Fall, and Meet Joe Black. Watching your performance after the stroke in Legends of the Fall still never ceases to amaze me, and I have watched it many times. And being a Daddy's girl, and the daughter of a powerful business man, Meet Joe Black really resonated in my heart. This interview just showed me once again how impressive I find you. Intelligent, humble, chilvalerous, elegant, witty, youthful, mutitaltented - a true Renaissance Man. I find these traits to be so rare today. I am always so delighted when I encounter them. Thank you for your work. It has touched and inspired me. I continue to look forward to what is to come from you.

For me personally- The Elephant Man. I was an A-Levels student in London. Away from home, across continents, across the seas. I cried. Even harder when I watched TEM. Then Shadowlands. Amazing. Still remember the chills that went down my spine as I felt the stark loneliness. Brilliant , sir! From Malaysia.

In hindsight, this might have been a bad conclusion to jump to. I remember he said he went through a depressive episode around 2001 (the fallout after huge success -- the expectations for Silence's sequel -- it can do that to a person) and anyway he's just nice to listen to. I think I watched this interview in a dark room, during lockdown, isolated from friends and study, and uhh this is very different from watching on a sunny day.

@@siranthonyhopkinshq1690 I live in Texas. I became a fan in the 90s. I always believed that Sir Anthony Hopkins could play any role. Of course, the psychopathy of the "Silence of the Lambs," was so easy for him. Who does that? Who knows how to be crazy without breaking a sweat? Perhaps it is the genius in a disturbed individual that is so curious. The mere fact that someone got back to our comments is miraculous. My upmost respect for Sir Anthony Hopkins. My favorite performer.

It is one of the halmarks of a great actor that they can take any role and make it shine, even if it's in a bad film. That is true professionalism.

Anthony Hopkins is amazing. That word gets thrown about too much but in this instance it is very appropriate. He is a wonderful actor who has brilliantly portrayed so many different characters over the years and as a person he comes across as such a humble, kind and likable human being. But with that said I have to say that to me he will always be Hannibal Lecter.😆 I can't think of many actors who have taken on a role and played it so perfectly that they become that character as convincingly as Hopkins/Lecter. The fact that in real life he is just about as different a persona as Lecter makes it even more amazing.

Completely Legendary actor (that is still alive) who can play any part you throw at him really, from villain to hero and all the bits in between he hogs the screen with sheer presence (even though he doesn't mean to). Of course he has had iconic roles but it seems obvious from this interview he's not an aficionado of the Hollywood "elite". Which is awesome as they are so self-congratulating its nauseating. with their "red carpet" appearances that Ricky Gervais mocked so many times. TH is a very down to earth guy it seems, though getting on a bit in 2023. Thanks for this little gem.
