What interface do you use? And what about speakers is the sound coming out straight from laptop?

I use Behringer UMC 202. My bass sound goes directly to Reaper + plugins. And playback is added to Reaper

How do i develop my ears. I tried to play along the isolated track but seems like I cant even find where he plays the notes. I'm so discouraged

New strings and low action on bass first of all. No need to be really low, but enough to get a liiiitle "scratching" from the strings on the fretboard when you play the low E note. Then if you have a PJ set up youŕe halfway there. For the effects iĺl be generalist because I use Amplitube, but basically: A little of compression, then some graphic EQ and I boost from 1k to the hightest frequency I have by making a "frowny" face with them. This is to make the high notes sounds like "radio", similar to Frankie´s tone. The problem is that you lose a lot of bottom end, so you have few options: 1 - use low pass on your amp/ 2 - if youŕe on DAW you can make a channel containing only the low frequencies to bring up some bottom you lost (kinda Billy Sheehan). And last thing the overdrive pedal. Dont dial up too much of tone and distortion, its just to pop up some aggressiveness from the sound. An for sure a noise gate is necessary.
