In this weeks video, I will be sharing with you some of my favorite anthropology books I have read in my classes! Some of these pieces are cultural anthropology books while others cover topics such as linguistic anthropology or biological anthropology. Good anthropology book recommendations can be hard to come by so I hope this video provides you with some of the inspiration you are looking for! Definitely leave your anthropology recommendations for me down below!
Who am I? My name is Alivia Brown and I am currently an undergraduate Anthropology student at UCLA on a mission to find a career that I love. My major does not have a straight forward "path" as many would say and I am not only determined to prove that I can be successful in my major but also demonstrate my ability to find a career that brings me joy. This is my journey to expanding my global and anthropological knowledge. This is my journey to finding the best career I can. This is my journey to finding happiness. This is my journey to success.

Hi Alivia! My name is Shazni, from Malaysia. I have been interested in linguistic for quite some time. Didn’t know it is actually one of the branches from anthropology, until I learned it from the current book that I’m reading, Anthropology For Dummies. I stumbled to your channel when I just doing random search about anthropology in KZfaq. I find your videos are helpful for me who are just about to delve deeper into this field of knowledge. Thank you so much

Would you consider reading and reviewing The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow? It uses anthropological and archeological evidence to oppose the common story of human history that people like Yuval Noah Harari and Jared Diamond (authors whose works you have previously read and reviewed) provide and it is incredibly interesting, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

I would absolutely consider reading and reviewing The Dawn Of Everything! I love that you mentioned that there are common threads between this book and the works of Harari and Diamond. Thank you so much!

There is an AMAZING book called butterflies of the night, and it’s about Japanese sex workers and how they fuel the economy and home life of families. I’m doing a project on it rn

Thank you so much for these recommendations. I am a sophomore in high school. Where should I study anthropology, and when is the best time to apply? Thank you :)
@AliviaBrown
@AliviaBrown Жыл бұрын
Aw of course! So happy to hear they were helpful! And applying mainly occurs during the Fall in the US (just like any undergraduate degree) and in regards to where to study anthropology, that is completely up to you! There are so many great universities and I think being opened minded is the best place to start (just make sure they have an anthropology program hehe).

Enrollment depends on the u! Anth is all about who you know, I don't have any specific University reccomendations. Once you pick a school, I highly recommend getting involved in the program as much as possible!

@@AliviaBrown Into textbooks are great to refer to when planning a youtube video;the authors of the textbook usually include bits of info in the text that are proven to be effective in attracting new students to the discipline.
