NAD may be a true "miracle molecule" in promoting health and longevity. NAD is a molecule that is critical to your body's cellular health. As you age, the levels of NAD decline, contributing to many age-related health problems, including decreased energy, impaired memory, skin aging, and disease risk. Recent research shows that boosting NAD levels has remarkable anti-aging benefits. NAD supplements are popular, but many people use them wrong.
In today's episode, my guest is Dr. Nichola Conlon, a microbiologist, the CEO of Nuchino, and a popular speaker. We discuss the science behind the miracle molecule NAD. We cover how it reverses aging, does NMN (Nicotinamide mononucleotide) and NR (Nicotinamide Riboside) supplements work, how to avoid risks, NAD testing, sirtuins, DNA repair, and how to boost NAD the safe way.
Dr. Conlon is a popular speaker who spreads information about practical, science-backed solutions for healthy aging.
NAD = Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide
NMN = Nicotinamide mononucleotide
NR = Nicotinamide Riboside

I have been taking Time+ based on the science that Nichola laid out, but have been very disappointed that after multiple attempts I could not get an answer about their recently posted (at the Nuchido site) clinical data. They post crossover data to show the increase over placebo and baseline. About 17 ng/ml increase in cellular NAD+. Looks like a clear increase. The issue was that I could not get an answer about the baseline cellular concentration of NAD+. Showing an increase, they used units of ng/ml instead of umol, without indicating the percent increase or showing the starting point is of little value. Therefore, although I think this approach, support of the salvage pathway, makes more sense that taking NR or NMN, I will not reorder Time+ until clear data is presented. They have been talking about clinical data forthcoming for years, and it's still not adequately published. Mean time, I will be taking EGCG, quercetin, apigenin, etc for salvage pathway support from other sources.

@@coralinenorman5149 I can't say that I have. I do other things and there are no clear metrics for assessing changes. Like many other compounds which have been shown to have effects (mostly in animal or cell cultures) I am assuming that the effects will occur over the long term, and it may not be possible to sort out whether it is doing anything. We need a good reliable inexpensive test for NAD+ as well as other markers (mTORC1 expression). There are a couple of studies which indicate NAD+ can be preserved by consistent exercise over time and indications that maintaining low insulin helps to. But exercise and low insulin have a broad range of positive effects. Nichola has also said that exercise and fasting will raise NAD+.

The big reason for ageing is the decline in Nitric Oxide after the age of 30 its all downhill heading to Alzheimer's, cardiovascular, pulmonary cancer, organ failures, NMN is easy because it's a drug precursor, as is L-carnitine L-Arginine but iNO is the best of all, all requiring exercise.

I won’t get into my age so much as my condition I’ve been fasting for most of my life and try to consume as much nutrient dense food as I can possibly use I exercise on a regular basis, and for most of my life people have told me that I do not look my age and in fact I don’t feel my age, and I attribute that to fasting and limiting my calorie intake, Suffice it to say I went to high school with reunion, and my mates were astonished, a few actually stating that I should leave, because I was making them all look very bad. This really kind of bummed me out because I was enjoying being around them and we’re paying no attention at all to my comparative physical condition, I think it’s important for us to learn to take care of ourselves as much as possible as we go through life, one never knows what one will encounter as it goes through their journey

I have been taking NMN for a year now, and I can't tell that it does a damn thing. Pretty certain that it is a waste of money for the young and healthy. It MIGHT be of limited benefit for the old and morbidly obese. I have to confess that I'm taking about 1 gram a day. Could be that a larger dose is necessary to get noticeable benefits.
@iaminkaland
@iaminkaland 10 ай бұрын
For the young and healthy, NMN alone will not probably do much. If you have a good balanced sleep, exercise, recovery, and diet, your body recycles NAD during your sleep. NMN will also not work if you over-exercise, don't exercise, don't sleep, or have inflammation, in which case the NAD recycling is not optimal. I think Dr Conlon mentioned here that for young people it's more important to ensure an optimal NAD recycling (the salvage pathway). Their supplement does not even contain NMN, it only contains ingredients that help the body recycle NAD naturally. Hope it helps :)

If the Nuchido so-called clinical studies were genuinely useful they would be able to be published in good peer reviewed publications. I have been asking for this for several years now, and nothing has appeared. What you read on their website or hear in Dr. Conlon’s interviews is merely unsubstantiated advertising for their products with no published evidence to support their claims. Buyer beware!
@iaminkaland
@iaminkaland Жыл бұрын
Yes I understand your concern. One thing to note is that trials take time and are expensive. Most supplement marketing that claims that supplement supports "X" and "Y" are not backed by a scientific research by the manufacturer per se, but instead, the data comes from external research that's not specific to that supplement.

I was thinking exactly the same question at 29. I am 30 now. I take NMN when traveling, stressed, or have more life demands. I don't take it daily. But Dr. Conlon suggested that around 30 is a good time to start thinking about it more, so I am doing a lot more research on it atm. At this age, I am focusing on daily exercise and sleep as the number 1 (2) tools. Building muscle, daily steps, and 8 hours of sleep. That activates the salvage pathway. So my educated guess is that first focus on exercise, 10 % calorie deficit, and sleep. and then supplements when more demands. OR, you could do a biological age test, try the supplements, keep everything else constant, and see if your biological age reversed and you feel better.

Respectfully, we talk about biological mechanisms that boost your cellular NAD levels. We point out that there's no use in "pumping NMN" without exercise, low-inflammation, and sleep. And that it's not necessary for all ages. We review the cellular mechanisms behind NAD boosting and look into the studies of NMN and NR and whether they are valid. The conclusion is definitely NOT pumping NMN if you have root cause issues. However, we also acknowledge the hundreds of research studies showing that it can boost NAD in many cases.

Same reply here as to your previous comment; Respectfully, we talk about biological mechanisms that boost your cellular NAD levels. We point out that there's no use in "pumping NMN" without exercise, low inflammation, and sleep.
