Found this on a flee market. Without knowing what it was I brought it home. I have not found what brand this is yet, but you may know. Leave a comment.

For those wondering, this tool is for splicing the ends of mechanical drive belts together. It sets the ends of the leather (or whatnot) belts with metal staples--"laces" that are then interlaced and locked with a thin metal rod. Hey presto, bull-tough drive belt.

Actually used item very similar when working in a bowling alley as a mechanic repairing belts for pin distributor on a machine in the back

Very good job. If you are still looking for a demonstration, Hand Tool Rescue did a similar restoration on his channel.

I have also used one, spliced belts together using ⁵/¹⁶" diameter rawhide sticks.

Excellent video. Check out “Hand Tool Rescue”. He did a restoration on a Belt Lacing Tool like yours in October 2018. Maybe you can pick up some ideas from his video.

Where is the oil?😩

Down the handle hole, and through the small holes between the body and handle. And any other place with moving parts 😬

Its not together correctly the brass fingers should be meshed in front not back. Sorry it will never splice plus your missing the wire that holds the laces in the brass fingers. I own two models and use them.

Thank you for your feedback. I do though humbly disagree with your conclusion. As far as i can see there is no other way to assemble it, an it is assembled as the pictures and patents i have I seen. The wire pin or retention pin for the clips i do know is missing and you are correct about that 😀
