Those "calipers" are a set of sheet metal radius dividers. They're used for layout to scribe circles etc. Thats why the points are removable (to sharpen or replace when they dull). Due to the way they open, they have a very wide range and you can scribe large circles without having the tool be obnoxiously large like a set of straight dividers would have to be. Still made and used today, the brand I use is Malco.

The last 3/8" ratchet is a speed ratchet. Its the perfect ratchet to tighten oilpan bolts and spark plugs. You can spin them in real quick and with a twist of the wrist set the "torque." I have each of those circle H and the speed ratchet in my collection.

As soon as I saw that paint on the scale I figured it must be the same brand as a postage scale I have..........I just checked mines a 1964 Hanson Postage Scale, I actually keep it in the pantry and use it all the time......Just looked it up, Hanson 1509-A, looks like they made that 1509 model for many years, I'm finding some from the 40s up into the 80s and it looks like they basically remained the same over all those years.

When I first began working on my own things, my father-in-law gave me a Craftsman ratchet that had belonged to his dad for many years. It was basically worn out but he never bothered replacing it because it had scuff marks on the handle (people do use cheaters). I took it to Sears. They noticed the scuff marks but they immediately gave me a replacement anyway for that 30 year old ratchet. I was sold on Craftsman tools.

ScoutCrafter, I just recently restored my Craftsman 1/2 Circle H ratchet. Yes, it’s built like a tank. On my third reassemble attempt, I discovered that the top and bottom plates are interchangeable and the drive gear can be installed upside-down. Also, it’s interesting that the 1/2 drive has the Craftsman nameplate on the “top” along with the selector switch; while the 3/8 drive has the Craftsman nameplate on the “bottom” along with the selector switch.

The 2 ratchets are simply outstanding. The screwdriver? I have an old Craftsman common screwdriver that is exactly 24 inches long. I always assumed that they intended for you to use it as a pry bar. If the screw was big enough to need a screwdriver that big, it's unlikely you could get enough torque on it. I could be wrong, but; I never used it for anything other than prying. Nice episode, today.

Old Craftsman tools are hard to find in Canada. Old Grey tools, no problem. Your beloved catalogs, down south it was Sears, up north my way it was Eaton's. Those are truly magnificent ratchets! I am glad you can appreciate them as they are and did not feel the need to go over the top on them. They are too nice to mess with! The scale is very cool! Just yesterday I picked two different but modern steerable sleds from the end of a driveway! They are not nearly as cool as the old one you got recently, but the concept is the same.

The ratchets cleaned up very well. They look like new. Well done. How about a future video on some of the worst designed tools. Perhaps ask the viewers to submit suggestions. I have a ratchet which has not been used. It is a Husky brand, 3/8in drive. This one can be used as a normal ratchet, and also the handle can be rotated to turn the head. I purchased this for working in tight spaces, and so far happy to report I have not needed to work in such spaces. Another ratchet set I have and never used is marketed to act on the flats of the heads, so the sockets are supposed to work on both imperial and metric. The lobes on the socket merely fall in different locations on the head of imperial vs metric hardware. I do not know why I never pick up this set. Dave.
