I was today years old when I finally understood the allure of dollhouses. It’s not about the dolls, it’s about the HOUSES. I am in love!

I started out amused and entertained with the housing of the mice - then thankful you didn't put the child on the toilet. When you got to the tour of the doll house with the recently found furniture - it became emotional. The man who built it for his children and perhaps grandchildren are all shining down on you. You are doing them proud. Wondering - any interest in researching who lived in the house where the doll house came from? I am loving this journey - thank you, Scott.

It's the perfect thing for a person who loves nostalgia: you don't have to have the whole house dedicated to it; you now have a whole new category of treasures to look for; and you can rearrange things to your heart's content. I loved the sturdy little coffee mug waiting on the table. And was that a spittoon?! I would, however, throw one of those lovely area rugs over that torn bit of carpet upstairs. You wouldn't want someone to trip! Can't wait for more!

Reminds me of the doll house my Grandfather built for my much older cousin Alice. It was stored in the rafters of my other cousin's garage. When I was a kid, I'd look at it and ask if I could have it, I was always told, no, it belongs to Alice. I went out to look at it one day and it was gone. My Aunt told me it had a wasp nest, so they threw it away! Broke my heart, I could have easily cleaned out a nest!

I loved this! Seeing it up close was wonderful. The Schoenhut bathroom pieces look like they're from the 1931 style. You could buy them from Sears, Roebuck back then for 60 or 70 cents per room. I love the green settle! I have a lot of doll house books, and a great reference is the Schiffer book by Dian Zillner: American Dollhouses and Furniture From the 20th century. I'd be happy to send it to you. The living room chair is really cool, I don't think I've ever seen one like it! And didn't I see an old wireless radio set? And the wallpaper! I had to laugh at the old mouse nest - they had a great set up under there, and enjoyed sharing the amenities with the dolls! It's like a children's story book by Rumer Godden where the mice are part of the family. I really envy you getting to restore it, and seeing all the details and old, old furniture. I can't wait for Part 2, 3, 4 etc!

That's such a beautiful old house. I somehow missed seeing this. It's got great bones. My hubby's grandpa handmade a dollhouse for his mom, for a Christmas gift, when she was little. It is one story and is accessed by removing the folding roof. He electrified it with tiny lights too. (Even has glass windows that go up and down, hinged doors, and a working doorbell). His five sisters played with it, at their house, growing up. Then it went back to his grandpa's guest room for the grandkids. When the estate was settled, no one wanted it because it was pretty hammered. We took it and stored it for over 15 years until our youngest daughter wanted to play with it. So we cleaned it up and made a few repairs. She became obsessed with it and played almost exclusively with it, using her littlest Pet Shop animals. She loved it so much, that she has it stored for her kids someday. A few years back, her grandmother tried to take it back, to give to another cousin to play with. It ruffled a few feathers because we had to say no to grandma, my hubby's sister, and young niece. We knew that it wouldn't come back to us because grandma had "promised" it to the neice and that she could keep it. (Without checking with us first). Dollhouses definitely have personalities and the people that love them, can have strong attachments to them. Thanks for the delightul tour. So many creative touches were put into your dollhouse. Truĺy amazing!

You have to have some really good karma to find the original furniture, unbelievable. I have never seen a doll house that old? Many times the metal or occasionally wood dollhouses after WWII. I was terrified you were going to use the shop vac on the stucco? I could see the stucco flying off? Daughter had dollhouse built from kit for her and I did all the finishing. I worked on it for years: wallpaper, stained the floors, put stairs together and major job was laying wood shingle tiles on roof and round tower in Victorian design of house. I spent a small fortune on furniture, a grand piano, etc. I don't have your talent to wire house but piece de resistance is Christmas tree with battery miniature lights. Looking forward to restoration.

That house is stunning and well built. They definitely don't make them like that anymore! I love dollhouses from back in the day. I am literally living in a house that looks like a doll house. It was built in 1916 which for the southwestern united states is old. Who ever the owners where, took such amazing care of my house. All the wood floors are all original except the kitchen. I can't believe the owners let this house go. I love it, it all had a fire place and wood stoves in every room! It's a large house a little big for my small family but I love this house.

My great uncle used a string of outdoor Christmas lights to light my Barbie house he built in the early 70s. He also cut up my grandma's new cookie sheet to make the kitchen sink and counter top. All the furniture was made by Uncle Bob and my mother, sometimes from scratch and sometimes from repurposed household objects. They couldn't come up with a bathtub so just graced a Fig Newton tray with several coats of white gloss spray paint!

This is so amazing! My papa was a talented woodworker. Most of the furniture in my house was built by him, beds, dressers, hope chest, toy box, cradle, vanity table, cabinets, baby doll furniture. I will never have all new furniture because I could never part with anything he made for me haha! When I was a child he built a dollhouse for me, similar to the size of yours. It's nearly 40 years old now. My first daughter who is now grown played with it for many years. Now I have a 4 year old (surprise baby :) ) who is begging for an LOL house or barbie house, plastic junk. She doesn't yet see the magic of my old dollhouse handmade with sturdy wood and love because it is very old and outdated and well loved from years and years of play. So now I am on a journey trying to figure out how to remodel it to make it more appealing to her. I need to take out and replace all of the wallpaper, carpet, all of the molding, also need to redo all of the windows, very overwhelming to someone with no experience with this stuff. Hoping my papa passed on some of his skills to me. So glad I found your channel. Hopefully I can pick up some tips and tricks while watching your restoration. I would love to know the history of this house, I am pretty certain it was made with love for someone very special!
