Great rundown of things to check. I inherited a 1926 LC Smith Ideal Grade 12 gauge which, as beautiful as she is, needs to be sold to the right person as I am not a hunter and this gun is too nice to just live out its days as a “Safe Queen.” Not being an expert on SxS shotguns this video was very helpful to me in evaluating the condition of this fine old firearm. This is a great video. Really informative Dad, you're sounding like a museum curator! I agree about that hammer shotgun, it's beautiful. I wouldn't sell it either haha.

Thanks for the video. What would you figure is the going rate (as just a general estimate without pictures) of a Remington M1894 with low serial numbers made in 1895? I see prices anywhere from $500 to 5,000 for one of these. When I compare online sold auctions to the condition and grade of my example most are around $1,500-2K which honestly seems high to me? That or I got a screaming deal... For reference its a 12 gauge Damascus 30 inch barrels. Its uncut unmodified original. The metal all has a nice even brown patina with some bluing left. Good bores, locks up solid and firing pins snap hard. Safety is a little sticky but I think its old oil build up which I havent taken apart to clean yet. Wood is oil soaked on the edges but decent grain like on the LCSmith in the video. Original buttplate present, no cracks but checkering mostly worn smooth and one screw on the wrist iron is goobered and a little loose but present. Id say condition similar to the LC in your video. Watcha think?

1500-2000 seems high to me too unless its insurance value. Although seeing some recent prices in the US, maybe 800-1200 but again hard to say without seeing it in person.

LCSmith shotguns are great. Smith went on to start the smith typewriter company. Sold the gun business off .

Wondering if you can help with information or point me in the right direction. I was given a Tobin Arms double barrel, with a 3 digit serial number. The patent says May 23 - 93. Norwich, Connecticut. It was color case hardened, and the wood looks to exceptional underneath the old finish. I have no doubt this was a beautiful gun when new. It's pretty rough now but would it be worth redoing or leave it as is? I did a video about it if you want to see what I'm asking about. Thanks for any help.

I know there is a collectors market for Tobins here in Canada but you have an early one there while they were still in the states. Personally I might redo the finish on the wood but wouldnt want to strip its old patina so I would only go carefully.

I was given a barrel shotgun on one barrel it says Egyptian Hall bringing him and on the other barrel it says e Anson and company and under the trigger guard it has the numbers 14024 it has a lot of scroll work needs to be cleaned and polished up and taking good care of is this gun worth any money or is it worth anything for trade you can let me know a great appreciate it my name is Lyle K. "Mirror" barrels in old shotguns are always a warning sign that the barrels might have been "refreshed"...perhaps several times. Before even thinking about shooting any of these guns, the barrel thicknesses must be measured. In most of Europe, all refreshed barrels must be submitted for reproofing. Also the elastic limit of barrel material can be exceeded producing a bulge of only a fraction of a mm and therefore invisible. Such guns would not be even accepted for proof in Britain. Many people think that low brass shells = low pressure shells. That is not true. Now most are loaded to about 10K lb./in2. The reason for this is that all shells must now be capable of being cycled in semi-autos. This is about 2x the pressure that light weight game guns were intended for. There was and is no proof law in the USA.
